IT Minister, Easypaisa CEO discuss steps to boost cashless economy

ISLAMABAD, Jul 09 (APP):Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, met with Easypaisa Digital Bank CEO, Jahanzeb Khan, on Wednesday to explore ways to promote a cashless economy, in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision.
The minister expressed full support for the Prime Minister’s goal of turning Pakistan into a cashless society, said a new release.
She stressed that digital payments are a key part of building a modern financial system.
“Encouraging digital transactions is essential for creating an inclusive and advanced economy,” she said, adding that Easypaisa is a leading player in Pakistan’s digital finance sector.
Shaza Fatima said the government is committed to digital empowerment and aims to give equal opportunities to all citizens through technology.
The meeting also focused on exploring future cooperation to strengthen the digital economy. Both sides discussed possible collaboration on the “Smart Islamabad” project, which the minister described as “positive and forward-looking.”
Easypaisa CEO Jahanzeb Khan praised the Ministry of IT’s digital efforts, calling them a strong step towards economic progress. He said that Easypaisa, being the country’s first digital retail bank and the largest financial app, is helping expand digital and financial access across Pakistan.

CPO distributes commendation certificates for excellent Muharram duties

FAISALABAD, Jul 09 (APP):City Police Officer (CPO) Sahibzada Bilal Umar has distributed commendation certificates among the police officers in recognition of their excellent Muharram duties.
In this connection, a formal ceremony was arranged at Community Engagement Center where CPO Faisalabad rewarded the police officers for their outstanding performance during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The CPO distributed commendation certificates to Town Officers and Circle Officers by acknowledging their dedication and professionalism in ensuring foolproof security arrangements especially on Muharram Ashura.
Speaking on the occasion, the CPO lauded the strenuous efforts of the entire police force and said that the exemplary law & order maintained during Muharram was a result of strong teamwork, unwavering commitment and a sense of responsibility towards public safety.
He appreciated the officers for not only fulfilling their security duties with utmost vigilance but also for maintaining close community engagement throughout the period.
He said that protection of citizens’ life and property is the first and foremost priority of Faisalabad Police and the performance shown during Muharram is a clear testament to this commitment.
He said that unity, discipline and devotion displayed by the force helped uphold peace and public trust during a sensitive time of Ashura Muharram-ul-Haram.
Such recognition ceremonies are a way to motivate officers to continue striving for excellence in their duties and to reinforce the culture of accountability and merit-based reward within the department, he added.

Special Operations Cell arrests PO involved in murder

SARGODHA, Jul 09 (APP):Special Operations Cell Sargodha Region arrested a wanted proclaimed offender (PO) involved in a courtroom murder case on Wednesday.
According to the police spokesperson, the accused Shoaib was a key accomplice in the murder of Amanat Ali, who was killed inside a courtroom due to an old enmity.
The victim, Amanat Ali, was himself a proclaimed offender who had been extradited from abroad and was presented in court when he was murdered.
Another accused in the case, Raheel, was arrested at the crime scene and has already been sentenced to death by the court.
The accused Shoaib, who had fled abroad after the incident, recently returned to Pakistan and was attempting to leave the country again in disguise. However, acting on intelligence, the Special Operations Cell arrested him at the airport before he could escape.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha, Muhammad Shehzad Asif Khan, stated that under the directives of the Inspector General (IG) Punjab Usman Anwar, an effective strategy has been developed to track down and arrest fugitives who have fled abroad. “No criminal can escape the law,” he affirmed. “The police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens through decisive and strategic action.”

Veterinary hospitals, cattle markets inspected

FAISALABAD, Jul 09 (APP):Director Livestock Dr. Syed Nadeem Badar visited various veterinary hospitals and cattle markets across the division.
According to official sources here Wednesday, the purpose of the visit was to review field activities, observe the progress of ongoing projects and provide guidance to the staff for improvement.
Syed Nadeem visited civil veterinary dispensary 328-GB and 696/38-GB located in Tehsil Pir Mahal of Toba Tek Singh district and a livestock market of Tehsil Gojra.
He inspected OPD, cleanliness, farmer livestock meeting record, vaccine, serum record, medicine stock etc.
The Director Livestock directed the staff present on the spot to expedite the registration process of livestock farmers under the CM Punjab Livestock Card Scheme PLC Phase-II.
He also visited the Evergreen Dairy Farm of renowned farmer Nadeem Ghaffar located at Chak No. 324 GB, Tehsil Pir Mahal.
He provided useful suggestions on breeding, feeding planning and improvement of animal health.
Later, he observed the ongoing tick spraying campaign at the cattle market of Tehsil Gojra.

IGP holds meeting on Elite Force participation in intl’ competitions

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar on Wednesday chaired a follow-up meeting at the Central Police Office to finalise preparations for Elite Force personnel participating in national and international Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), sniper competitions and related events.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, trained members of the Elite Force will represent Punjab Police in international and national-level special forces skill and shooting competitions to be held in Dubai and Turkiye. The meeting finalised key aspects including team selection, weapon handling, training protocols, and logistical support.
Commandant, Elite Training School, Khalid Suleman, briefed the attendees that coordination with police authorities in Dubai and Turkiye has already been completed to facilitate the participation of Punjab Police teams. Baseline assessments, physical evaluations, and tactical movement assessments have been conducted as part of the player selection process, he added
Khalid Suleman further reported that top-tier snipers from the Elite Force have been selected to compete in the international sniper competitions in Turkiye.
The IGP Punjab directed that all available resources be utilised for the formation and training of the teams. He emphasised that participants in the Dubai and Turkiye competitions will be provided with advanced sniper rifles, ammunition, and high-level tactical training.
The IGP stressed the importance of equipping the teams with modern sniper rifles, night vision devices, wind meters, and camouflage suits. He directed that the best police commandos and snipers be selected and that skill-based training and modern weaponry be ensured.
Dr. Usman said that the professional standards and operational expertise of the Punjab Police Special Forces are on par with the world’s most advanced civil armed forces. He added that Punjab Police personnel, equipped with modern training, excel in crime fighting, special operations, and precision sniper skills. He expressed confidence that the force will showcase its exceptional capabilities in the upcoming international competitions.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Elite Police Force Dr. Muhammad Waqar Abbasi, Additional IG Training Punjab Tariq Rustam Chauhan, DIG Elite Police Force Faisal Ali Raja, Commandant Elite Police School Khalid Suleman, SSP Rana Umar Farooq, SP Monitoring Elite Police Force Agha Ramzan Ali, SP Headquarters Elite Police Force Asad Rehman, and other senior officers.

Police arrest 96 drug dealers, seize narcotics in 196 raids

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Punjab Police intensified their anti-narcotics crackdown across the province, including Lahore, conducting 196 raids and arresting 96 drug dealers in the last 24 hours.
A police spokesperson said on Wednesday that during the operations, authorities recovered 31-kg hashish, three kilograms of ice, five-kg heroin and 952 liters of liquor.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar has ordered that special operations against drug dealers and smugglers be expedited. He directed strict legal action against all suspects involved in the drug supply chain.

IGP issues relief orders on police personnel applications

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, met with police employees and their families to hear their concerns and issued immediate relief orders in response.
According to Punjab Police spokesperson, on the request for medical financial assistance of DSP Nasir Mehmood, DIG Welfare and Finance was directed to provide relief. On the transfer posting request of Head Constable Ghulam Ali, DIG Establishment-II was directed to provide relief. On the request of Lady Head Constable, RPO Multan was directed to provide relief. On the transfer posting request of Head Constable Muhammad Farooq, DIG Establishment-II was directed to provide relief.
Dr. Usman Anwar also issued orders on additional matters related to discipline, administration, promotions, and welfare.

14 killed, 1,405 injured in Punjab road accidents

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Fourteen people were killed and 1,405 others injured in 1,179 road accidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to a report, issued by the Punjab Emergency Service (PES), commonly known as Rescue-1122, here on Wednesday.
As many as 603 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 802 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rescue medical teams.
The data analysis showed that 769 drivers, 71 underage drivers, 143 pedestrians and 507 passengers were among the victims of road crashes. The statistics showed that 229 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 280 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Multan with 86 accidents and 106 victims, and at third Faisalabad with 77 accidents and 101 victims.
According to the data, 1,083 motorbikes, 69 auto-rickshaws, 144 motorcars, 26 vans, 11 passenger buses, 29 trucks and 94 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the road accidents.

Punjab Governor, Sardar Saleem Haider, has approved the summary sent by the Agriculture Department.
