Pakistan, AFD signs grant agreement worth Euro 12 million

ISLAMABAD, Jul 04 (APP): The Government of Pakistan and French Development Agency (AFD) have signed a grant agreement worth Euro 12 million in Ministry of Economic Affairs for a project aimed at strengthening water and sanitation service delivery across selected urban areas in Punjab.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Nicolas Galey, the Ambassador of France to Pakistan and Mr. Vincent Thevenot, Director of AFD in Pakistan, said a press release issued here on Friday.
This is a European Union grant which will be administered by AFD. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the European Union and the Government of Punjab.
The transformative initiative is designed to improve the governance, operational performance, and service quality of Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) Lahore and Faisalabad by focusing on three core areas.
At the provincial level, it will develop and implement regulatory frameworks to strengthen the oversight role of the Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Department (HUD&PHED).
At the utility level, modern technologies, systems, and business processes will be introduced to enhance operations, service delivery, and financial sustainability.
Additionally, the project will support equipment procurement and digitization to enable data-driven and transparent decision-making within WASAs.
The project marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to enhance urban water and sanitation infrastructure and improve public service delivery.
It also reflects the Government’s commitment to building strong partnerships with international development partners to address urban development challenges and promote sustainable growth.

8th Muharram Procession concludes Peacefully in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Jul 04 (APP):The 8th Muharram ul Harram procession held in the R.A Bazaar area was concluded  peacefully after passing through its traditional routes at Imambargah Qasr Zainab.
Rawalpindi Police had made special security arrangements to ensure the safety of the participants.
Senior officers remained present in the field to personally monitor the situation.
According to SSP Operations Kashif Zulfiqar, participants were only allowed to join the procession after a full body search.
All streets, roads, and entry points along the route were sealed to prevent any untoward incident, he added.
The entire procession was closely monitored from the Safe City central control room.
SSP Operations further said Rawalpindi Police is making all out efforts to provide foolproof security during Muharram.

PM leaves for Pakistan after attending ECO summit

SHUSHA, KARABAKH, Jul 4 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Friday left for Pakistan after completing his two-day visit to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani Minister of Education and Science Emin Amrullayev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov, Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin and senior diplomatic and government officials bid farewell to the Prime Minister and the Pakistani delegation at Fuzuli Airport.

During his visit, the Prime Minister attended the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in Khankandi and presented Pakistan’s position on global and regional issues. The Prime Minister stressed the need for measures for regional connectivity, trade, investment, sustainable development and regional peace.

In the presence of the Prime Minister, an agreement was also signed between Pakistan and Azerbaijan for Azerbaijani investment worth $2 billion in Pakistan’s economic sector.

The Prime Minister met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on this occasion. Regional peace, Pakistan’s mutual relations with these countries and promotion of trade relations were discussed during the meetings.

SEPA collects samples from HWSC’s water filtration plant

HYDERABAD, Jul 04 (APP):In view of growing complaints of the citizens about supply of turbid water by Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC), a team of Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) visited the corporation’s filtration plants here on Friday.
The Hyderabad Region In Charge of SEPA, Deputy Director Imran Abbassi, informed that he led a team which collected water samples from the corporation’s largest filtration facility on the Jamshoro road.
He added that they also checked the lagoons, chlorination chamber, allum application chamber and water supply facility.
Abbassi said the samples would be sent to SEPA’s laboratory for testing. According to him, the team was briefed that the filtration plant supplied water to City, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas of Hyderabad.
The deputy director said that the plant’s management was strictly directed to follow the filtration standards in compliance with the Sindh Environment Protection Act, 2014.

RAWALPINDI, Jul 04 (APP): Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Punjab, Sohaib Ahmed Bharth, chaired a meeting at the Commissioner Office Rawalpindi to review security arrangements for Muharram ul Harram.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, MPA Zia Ullah Shah, and senior officers from various departments.
Officials briefed the minister about the security and administrative measures taken to ensure peace during Muharram.
Addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has directed to make foolproof security arrangements for the safety of the public.
Officers and personnel of the district administration, police and law enforcement agencies have been deployed on the routes of the processions. The routes of the Muharram processions being monitored through CCTV cameras.
The minister said that all stakeholders including peace committees, religious scholars and others are playing a constructive role in maintaining law and order.
He also mentioned that fake news is being closely monitored to stop wrong information.
All departments are working together efficiently. The code of conduct is being fully implemented, he added. Workers of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) are on duty to ensure cleanliness along procession routes. Sabeels (drinking water stalls) will also be set up. The minister instructed officials of WASA, MCR, and RWMC to stay alert due to the possibility of flood.

Additional IGP Karachi reviews security arrangements for 8th Muharram procession

KARACHI, Jul 04 (APP):Additional Inspector General of Police – Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, visited Jama Cloth Market near Iqbal Centre to review the security arrangements for the central 8th Muharram procession on Friday.
During the visit, he met with procession organizers and discussed various security-related matters to ensure smooth and safe observance of the event, according to spokesperson for Karachi Police.
The Additional IGP Karachi instructed the officers and personnel present to ensure foolproof security and prioritize the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
He added that effective surveillance is being maintained along the procession routes through CCTV cameras and the Command and Control Center.

Elementary education classrooms will be built in 1139 schools in Punjab

LAHORE, Jul 04 (APP):Elementary education classrooms will be built in 1139 schools in Punjab. The cost of building classrooms will be Rs.250 million.
School Education Department sources told APP that Rs250 lac will be given to each school for the purchase of books, furniture and learning kits, funds for building ECE rooms will be transferred to the accounts of school heads.
School heads will be bound to build ECE classrooms by the specified deadline.
Earlier, 5,000 classrooms were built for Early Child Education across Punjab, the number of  Early Childhood Education (ECE) classrooms in Lahore schools is 209.
