Anti-encroachment drive launched in Gujrat

GUJRAT, Aug 22 (APP):On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Gujrat Noor-ul-Ain, the Punjab Enforcement Regulatory Authority (PERA) launched an anti-encroachment operation on Tanda Road to remove permanent and temporary structures.
The operation was supervised by Sub-Divisional Enforcement Officer PERA Ayesha Gondal and Enforcement Officer Muhammad Kaleem.
Encroachments established along roadsides and footpaths were cleared during the drive.The anti-encroachment team also warned shopkeepers against placing goods on roads and footpaths, cautioning that strict legal action would be taken against violators.
Ayesha Gondal said the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, under the supervision of the district administration and PERA, was being intensified to facilitate citizens and keep the city free from encroachments.

Over 90% area cleared along Tarnol GT road in anti-encroachment operation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has cleared more than 90 percent of illegal structures around GT Road Tarnol in a large-scale anti-encroachment operation, demolishing several buildings and arresting violators to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the 11-day operation was jointly conducted by the Capital Territory Administration’s (CTA) Enforcement Wing and the National Highway Authority (NHA), under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (AC) Saddar.
During the operation, 100 individuals were arrested for illegal construction, more than 130 shops were sealed and demolished, while 24 trucks were impounded and shifted to the police station.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad directed strict vigilance to prevent fresh encroachments on GT Road, warning that a citywide crackdown would continue against violators.
“Encroachments that mar the beauty of the capital will not be tolerated,” DC emphasized.

Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Sukkur, One Arrested

SUKKUR, Aug 22 (APP):In a daring encounter, police thwarted a robbery attempt in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station, near Saeedabad Link Road, here on Friday. A police team responded to the situation, engaging in a shootout with the robbers. One of the culprits, identified as Wajid Brohi, was apprehended in an injured state, while two of his accomplices managed to flee the scene.
The police recovered a TT pistol with a magazine and ammunition, along with a master key, from the possession of the arrested suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was involved in multiple serious crimes, including theft, robbery, and police encounters.
The injured suspect has been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A search operation is currently underway in the area to apprehend the fleeing culprits.
SSP Sukkur, Azhar Khan, has commended the police team for their bravery and professionalism in foiling the robbery attempt. He has announced a reward and appreciation certificate for the team members involved in the operation. Further investigations are being conducted to uncover the suspect’s complete criminal record and possible connections with other crimes.

Three drug peddlers received 27 year sentence

RAWALPINDI, Aug 22 (APP):Three drug traffickers, including a female have been sentenced to a combined 27 years in prison and fined Rs. 380000.0 by local courts. According to the details, Khurram Shehzad was sentenced to 09 years in prison and fined Rs. 100,000.0 after Waris Khan Police arrested him in April 2025 with 1.52 kilograms of hashish. Similarly, Awal Gul received 09 years imprisonment and a Rs. 80,000.0 fine following his arrest by Wah Cantt Police in June 2025 with 1.94 kilograms of hashish. Earlier, another court sentenced female trafficker Arzoo Yousuf to 09 years in prison and Rs. 200,000.0 fine for possessing 2.2 kilograms of hashish.
CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani commended the police teams emphasizing an unwavering commitment to eliminating the drug menace.

Eid Milad-un- Nabi Celebrations: DC Sukkur hold key meeting

SUKKUR, Aug 22 (APP):Deputy Commissioner  (DC) Sukkur, Nadir Shahzad Khan on Friday chaired a crucial meeting at his office to discuss arrangements for the upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations. The meeting was attended by senior officials from various departments, including law enforcement, health, and local government.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the police department to ensure foolproof security arrangements during the celebrations. He emphasized the need for CCTV surveillance and adequate police presence to maintain law and order.
The DC Sukkur instructed the health department to ensure 24/7 availability of doctors, paramedical staff, and medicines in hospitals. He also directed the setup of blood donation camps and the presence of ambulances and fire brigade vehicles along procession routes.
He directed the municipal authorities to ensure proper sanitation, street lighting, and drainage during the celebrations.
DC Sukkur instructed the Sui Southern Gas Company and electricity department to ensure uninterrupted services during the celebrations.
He e emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure peaceful and harmonious celebrations. He directed all Assistant Commissioners to hold meetings in their respective tehsils to address issues and ensure smooth celebrations.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to make the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations a success and to ensure that the city’s infrastructure is well-prepared to handle the festivities.

Gold prices dip by Rs.1,500 to Rs 355,700 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP):The price of 24 karat per tola gold witnessed an increase of Rs 1,500 on Friday and was sold at Rs 355,700 against its sale at Rs 357,200 on the previous trading day, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association reported.
The prices of 10 grams of 24 karat also decreased by Rs 1,286 to Rs 304,955 from Rs 306,241, whereas the price of 10 grams of 22 Karat went down by Rs 1,179 to Rs 279,552 from Rs 280,731.
The rates of per tola and ten gram silver remained unchanged at Rs 4,013 and Rs 3,440, respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $15 to $3,330 from $3,345, whereas that of silver remained constant at $37.80, the Association reported.

21 new green buses to boost public transport in Quetta and Turbat

QUETTA, Aug 22 (APP):In a landmark move to modernize urban mobility, the Balochistan government has unveiled the launching of 21 cutting-edge buses under its ambitious Green and Pink Bus Project, aimed at elevating public transport standards in Quetta and Turbat.
The initiative taken under the special directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, reflects a strong commitment to public welfare and infrastructure development. Of the newly acquired fleet, 17 buses will serve Quetta, while 4 are designated for Turbat.
To promote inclusivity and safety, five of the Quetta-based buses painted pink will be reserved exclusively for women, offering a secure and dignified commuting experience.
The remaining 12 green buses will operate across key urban routes, delivering modern, efficient transit options to the general public.
Transport Secretary Muhammad Hayat Kakar confirmed that all buses have been inspected and shipped, with services expected to launch imminently. “This project will not only enhance the travel experience for thousands of citizens but also create new employment opportunities,” he added.
Once operational, the fleet is projected to serve between 40,000 and 50,000 passengers daily, dramatically improving urban mobility and reducing reliance on outdated transport systems.
The Balochistan government reaffirmed its dedication to delivering reliable, accessible, and forward-looking transport solutions as part of its broader urban development strategy.

Water level increasing in Sutlej River: Rescue 1122

KASUR, Aug 22 (APP):The water level was increasing in Sutlej River as 95,000 cusecs of water flow had been recorded in the river, the Rescue 1122 sources said on Friday.
The river was experiencing medium level of flood, they added.
The district administration had directed to shift the people and cattle to  the safer areas, the sources said
The Rescue 1122 teams had provided boat service to over 4300 people in the areas affected with floods, they said, adding the teams had also  shifted 300 cattle to safer places.

PM vows swift rehabilitation in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed the federal government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the affected families and expediting the rehabilitation process, particularly in the flood-stricken areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet, the prime minister expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of heavy rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods that have caused widespread devastation across the province, especially in Swat, Swabi, Mansehra, and Shangla.

He emphasized that federal ministers, secretaries, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the armed forces were fully engaged in ongoing relief efforts across the affected areas.

He also noted that the Field Marshal had accompanied him during his recent visit to Buner and other flood-affected regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Recalling the devastation caused by the 2022 floods, which led to significant property damage and around 100 casualties, the prime minister highlighted the alarming toll of the recent flash floods and cloudbursts. Although the impacted area was relatively limited this time, the human loss has been far greater, with over 700 lives lost—more than 400 of them from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone.

He further mentioned similar weather-related disasters in Karachi, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and expressed solidarity with the affected populations.

He stressed that the illegal constructions on the water ways should be discouraged. “I will call a meeting soon to discuss the matter,” he added.

He said that trees were being cut on mass scale in Galyat and other parts of the country.

As regards the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the prime minister said China Pakistan strategic friendship was being strengthened day by day. He informed that soon he will visit China to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit where he will also meet the Chinese leadership.

The cabinet also offered Fateha for those lost their lives in the recent rains and flash floods.
