UAE strengthens industrial property ties with Spain, Morocco

GENEVA, July 14 (WAM/APP) : The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the development of intellectual property (IP) in the UAE in line with international best practices.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, during the UAE delegation’s participation in the Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva.
The agreements cover several strategic areas, including digital transformation, talent development, and enhanced coordination in industrial property and patent registration. They also seek to harness advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to support patent search and classification processes.
Minister bin Touq highlighted the UAE’s continued commitment to building a comprehensive IP ecosystem and fostering global partnerships. He noted that collaboration with Spain and Morocco represents a significant milestone in exchanging technical knowledge, streamlining registration procedures, and adopting modern compliance standards.

Around 336,999 Pakistanis proceed to abroad for employment during Jan 1 to June 30 this year

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):Through the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BUEO) an attached department of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development from January 1 to June 30, around 336,999 Pakistanis have proceeded abroad for employment.
The number of foreign job seekers are also increasing day by day due to the productive policies of the country as new ways of jobs opening for skilled and unskilled Pakistani workers.
An official source of BEOE told APP, he said that since inception of the Bureau in the year 1971, more than 10 million emigrants have been provided overseas employment duly registered with the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment.
To a question, he said that during the year 2015, the highest number of Pakistanis(946,571) proceeded abroad for the purpose of employment.
He said that so far, 116,300 foreign jobs are available with BEOE Overseas employment was playing a vital role in reducing the pressure of unemployment at home, besides being a major means of earning foreign exchange in the shape of overseas workers’ remittances.
Overseas employment is thus serving as the mainstay for the national economy, by providing much-needed financial outlay for debt servicing, import bills, alleviation of poverty, development projects and economic activities.
Bureau, being a regulatory body, controls, regulates, facilitates and monitors the emigration process followed by the Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs), in the private sector, besides ‘direct employment’, the mode adopted by the individuals, to seek foreign employment either through their own efforts or relatives and friends living abroad.
The foremost task of Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment encompass collection, compilation and tabulation of emigration data of all those Pakistanis who proceed abroad for employment purpose. In fact, the Bureau has been engaged in maintaining comprehensive statistical record of all the migrant workers since 1971, which provides basis for planning and policy formulation by the Economic Division and other interested government departments.
He said that the main function of this body was to control and regulate emigration under the Emigration Ordinance, 1979
and promote Emigration of Pakistani Citizens.

IRSA releases 277,424 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP):Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Monday released 277,424 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 326,004 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1527.00 feet which was 125.00 feet higher than the dead level of 1402.00 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 213,700 cusecs and 174,900 cusecs, respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1184.85 feet, which was 134.85 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 17,780 cusecs and 8,000 cusecs, respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 227,594, 426,400, 315,558 and 225,260 cusecs, respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 41,000 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 26,745 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.

Constable injured by robbers’ firing

MULTAN, Jul 14 (APP):A constable of the Crime Control Department (CCD),Shujabad Circle sustained injuries after the fire from alleged robbers near Basti Lagranvein in Shujabad on Monday.
According to officials,the CCD team was on patrolling duty when three unidentified suspects opened fire on the police.During the indiscriminate firing,a constable named Muhammad Asif was hit by a bullet in his right hand.
However,the suspects managed to escaped from the scene.
The injured constable was shifted to Nishtar Hospital for treatment.

Two persons injured critically in road mishap

NOWSHERA VIRKAN Jul 14 (APP):Two persons here on Monday received critical injuries in collisions between a donkey-cart and a motorbike on Tattle Aali–Nowshera Virkan road.
President, All Painters and Art Association, Muhammad Shabir Mughal was riding on a motorcycle with his friend, Muhammad Younis when their two wheeler collided with the donkey-cart, and they critically injured, the rescue sources said.
They said a Rescue 1122 team shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital (THQ), adding the doctors referred an injured to District Headquarter Hospital, Gujranwala.

PSX crossing 135,000 points reflects business community’s confidence in economy: PM

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed pleasure over the Pakistan Stock Exchange crossing a historic level of 135,000 points, saying that it reflected the confidence of the business community in Pakistan’s economy.

The prime minister, in a statement, said that the current positive economic indicators showed the government’s policies moving in the right direction.

He said that providing a conducive environment to the business community was the government’s priority.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that the country had embarked on the path to economic growth after achieving stability.

He said that the government was working tirelessly for the country’s development and public welfare.

Polio virus found in Mirpur AJK sewerage system: DHO

MIRPUR (AJK), Jul 14 (APP):Mirpur AJK, District Health Authorities have advised the parents to complete the routine immunization course, including the polio vaccination course of their under-5 children through the routine stipulated polio vaccination drive.
“Yes, the polio virus was detected in Mirpur AJK through sewerage system inspection, since the virus is genetically linked to the virus existing in Lahore, in the wake of the recent environmental inspection primarily to detect the viral disease”, Dr. Fida Hussain, District Health Officer (DHO) Mirpur told APP here.
The DHO said that the people should not be scared of the detection of the polio virus as the polio virus was reportedly detected at about two hundred sites in various parts of the country in the wake of the routine examination and inspection of the sewerage system on environmental grounds, he observed.
Dr. Fida Hussain emphasized that parents should strictly focus on getting the polio vaccination in every campaign for their children under 5 years of age completed through the polio eradication drives conducted in the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, under the World Health Organization calendar.
To a question, the DHO said that the AJK State Health Department was keeping a close watch, monitoring the situation to instantly combat the detection of the polio virus in any part of this lakeside district.
