Governor attends U.S. independence day celebration

KARACHI, Jul 16 (APP):Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori attended the U.S. Consulate’s Independence Day celebration in Karachi as the chief guest.
The event, held to mark the 248th Independence Day of the United States, was hosted by U.S. Consul General Scott Urbom and attended by a large number of dignitaries, said a news release on Wednesday.
Consul General Urbom and members of the U.S. diplomatic mission warmly received Governor Tessori upon his arrival. The ceremony brought together prominent political and social figures, consuls general of various countries, diplomats, business leaders, and representatives of civil society.
Governor Kamran Tessori presented a bouquet to the Consul General and extended heartfelt congratulations to the American people on their national day. He noted the significance of the U.S. celebrating its Independence Day with such enthusiasm in Pakistan, calling it a reflection of the strong bilateral ties.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sindh said that relations between Pakistan and the United States continue to grow stronger, built on mutual trust, trade cooperation, and people-to-people connections. He expressed hope that this journey of mutual understanding and partnership would expand further in the years ahead.

Punjab Police actively participating in relief efforts during monsoon

LAHORE, Jul 17 (APP):Punjab Police officers and personnel are on high alert and actively participating in relief efforts during the ongoing rains.
IG Punjab has directed the force to remain vigilant in affected areas, assist in traffic management, and support WASA and other departments in draining rainwater.
Supervisory officers have been instructed to personally oversee relief operations and maintain coordination with PDMA, district administrations, and rescue agencies. Police control rooms are also collecting damage reports, while full support is being extended to rescue affected citizens.

Lahore experiences heavy spell of monsoon rains

LAHORE, Jul 17 (APP):The city experienced a heavy spell of monsoon rains starting Tuesday night and continuing intermittently through Wednesday evening, causing widespread disruption.
According to WASA Lahore, the highest rainfall was recorded at Iqbal Town with 187 mm, followed closely by Pani Wala Talab (186 mm), Tajpura (173 mm), Samanabad (169 mm), and Farrukhabad (164 mm). Other significant readings included Upper Mall (162 mm), Laxmi Chowk (143 mm), Mughalpura (140 mm), Chowk Na Khuda (137 mm), Gulshan-e-Ravi (128 mm), Nishtar Town (122 mm), Johar Town (101 mm), Qurtaba Chowk (97 mm), Gulberg (93 mm), Jail Road (88 mm), and the Airport area (77.8 mm).
The downpour flooded numerous roads and low-lying areas, severely hampering traffic and daily activities. Power outages were reported across several neighborhoods, and in Raiwind, a house roof collapsed due to the rain.
The MET office warned of more heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 17 (today), potentially triggering flash floods in local streams and nullahs in D.G. Khan, Northeast and Upper Punjab, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Kashmir, and various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, and Mardan. Landslides and mudslides may block roads in hilly areas of KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Urban flooding is also likely in low-lying areas of Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Nowshera, Peshawar, and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. The public is advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions, especially against strong winds which may damage electric poles, trees, solar panels, vehicles, and standing crops.
Officials said a well-marked low-pressure area is currently positioned over eastern and northeastern Punjab, coupled with a westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country. Strong monsoon currents are active across central and upper Pakistan and are expected to persist for the next 24 to 36 hours.
Rainfall was also recorded across Punjab: Sheikhupura (217 mm), Okara (170 mm), Hafizabad and Bahawalnagar (90 mm each), Kasur (85 mm), Sahiwal (60 mm), Gujranwala (50 mm), Faisalabad (44 mm), Mandi Bahauddin (32 mm), Jhelum (29 mm), Sialkot (28 mm), Chakwal (24 mm), Rawalpindi (23 mm), Islamabad (19 mm), Mangla and Narowal (16 mm each), Murree (15 mm), Attock (11 mm), Multan (7 mm), Gujrat and Khanewal (4 mm each), Layyah and Jhang (3 mm), Sargodha, Joharabad, Toba Tek Singh and Kot Addu (2 mm each), and Noor Pur Thal (1 mm).
The highest temperature recorded on Wednesday was 43°C in Dalbandin, while Lahore’s maximum was 29°C.

Hyderabad Distt admin to celebrate Marka-e-Haq, Independence day together

HYDERABAD, Jul 16 (APP):The Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Ahmed Memon presided over a meeting in his office at Shahbaz Building regarding the celebration of Independence Day and the Marka-e-Haq with enthusiasm together on 14th August
On this occasion, the Commissioner Hyderabad said that August 14 was being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country every year, however this year, along with the joy of Independence Day,  District administration would also celebrate the Battle of Haq.
The Battle of Haq is a great victory of our forces and nation which has increased the prestige of our country all over the world.
Commissioner said that Pakistan was the peace-loving nation, but if violence is imposed, we know how to give a befitting reply.
He further said that from August 1, we will start celebrating our Independence Day. From tomorrow, national flags will be hoisted on government buildings and vehicles.
On August 4, flower petals will be sprinkled on the tombs of martyrs in the districts of the division and the heirs of the martyrs will be honored.

We will show our patriotism by wearing Pakistani flag badges on our clothes pockets.

A grand program will be organized at the Mayor’s Secretariat, Hyderabad on the night of August 13, in which a program of fireworks and national songs will also be held, while on other days, cricket matches will also be organized at the Niyaz Stadium, Hyderabad, as well as other programs.
On this occasion, ADC-1 Gada Hussain Soomro informed about the preparations for celebrating Independence Day and the struggle for right with enthusiasm in Hyderabad. Town chairmen, representatives of NGOs, police department and other officers were also present in the meeting, while deputy commissioners of other districts of the division participated through video link.

DIG, SSP inaugurates newly built Model Police Station B-Section

NAWABSHAH, Jul 16 (APP):Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Shaheed Benazirabad Parvez Ahmed Chandio and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaheed Benazirabad Shabir Ahmed Sethar inaugurated the newly constructed Model Police Station B-Section.
On arrival, the DIGP was presented a formal salute by a smart police contingent. DIG and SSP conducted a detailed inspection of the police station, which has been constructed on modern lines to meet the contemporary requirements of policing.
During the inauguration ceremony, SSP Shabir Ahmed Sethar presented the guest of honor, DIGP Parvez Ahmed Chandio, with traditional symbols of Sindhi culture Ajrak, Sindhi Topi, and a commemorative shield – as a gesture of appreciation for his leadership and guidance.
Police spokesperson said that the establishment of this model police station is part of the vision and directives of IG Sindh  Ghulam Nabi Memon, aimed at providing effective, respectful, and timely police services to the public. During the visit, both officers went round various departments within the station, including the Complaint Cell, Reporting Room, Waiting Area, and other facilities. They appreciated the arrangements and commended the improved system of public service delivery.
An honorary ceremony was also held on the occasion, where officers and personnel who demonstrated outstanding performance in the line of duty were awarded certificates of appreciation and cash prizes. The officials acknowledged their dedication, honesty, and sense of duty, encouraging them to continue working with the same passion.
Speaking at the event, SSP Shabir Ahmed Sethar said that the Model Police Station is a significant step towards providing a better environment and services to citizens, and that boosting morale among police personnel will further enhance their performance.
DIGP Parvez Ahmed Chandio emphasized that under the guidance of IG Sindh, police stations across the province are being modernized to ensure timely and effective resolution of public issues.

44 dilapidated buildings sealed in city following Lyari incident

KARACHI, Jul 16 (APP):Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a high level meeting to review ongoing evacuation and demolition operations targeting dilapidated structures across the city.
During the meeting, officials reported that a total of 44 dangerous buildings had been evacuated and sealed in District South and District East as a precautionary measure.
DC South, Javed Nabi Khoso, stated that 41 buildings, including 10 historical structures, were vacated in District South alone. In District East, 3 buildings were evacuated, according to Deputy Commissioner Abrar Jafar.
The meeting resolved that no demolition of severely dilapidated buildings would proceed without the approval of either the Commissioner Karachi or the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). In the case of heritage buildings, demolition would only take place following consultation with the Advisory and Technical Committee.
To expedite the process, Commissioner Naqvi appointed four officers to conduct detailed surveys of at-risk structures. Deputy Commissioner South was assigned additional responsibilities to oversee and coordinate these efforts.
The meeting was attended by DG SBCA Shahmeer Bhutto, Deputy Commissioners of South, East, Central, and West districts, senior SBCA officials, and representatives from other relevant organizations.

Free medical camp organized at District Jail Shaheed Benazirabad

NAWABSHAH, Jul 16 (APP):A one-day free medical camp was organized at District Jail Shaheed Benazirabad for prisoners by health department SBA in collaboration with jail authorities, on the special directives of Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and Sindh Prisons Minister Ali Hassan Zardari.
Specialist doctors examined prisoners, diagnosed various ailments, and provided free medicines in the camp.
On this occasion, Regional Director Provincial Ombudsman, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khan Muhammad Zardari, along with District Health Officer Dr Asadullah Dahri, visited the medical camp.
Talking to prisoners, Khan Muhammad Zardari said that the camp was set up to provide free healthcare services to prisoners under the instructions of the provincial ministers, ensuring that all necessary medical facilities are accessible at one place.
During visit health department officials briefed the Regional Director that the one-day free medical camp was held in collaboration with jail authorities.
Various medical tests, including malaria, hepatitis, blood pressure, ultrasound, and others, were conducted free of cost, and medicines were also provided.
Jail Superintendent Ghulam Rasool Mashori informed that currently, 387 prisoners are lodged in the jail under various cases. He said that the free medical camp was organized as per the special instructions of the provincial ministers to ensure prisoners receive adequate healthcare services.

DC supervises rainwater drainage after heavy downpour

FAISALABAD, Jul 16 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (retired) Nadeem Nasir sprang into action during the late-night rainfall to personally inspect and supervise the city’s rainwater drainage operations.
He visited the disposal station on Satiana Road and carried out a detailed inspection of water drainage measures across several key urban locations. He closely monitored the drainage situation at Satiana Road, Jaranwala Road, Samundri Road, Jhang Road, Sargodha Road, Daewoo Road, Bilal Road and other rain-affected areas.
During his field visit, he issued on-the-spot directions to WASA teams and said that no field staff should leave their assigned areas until the last drop of rainwater is drained. He said that entire machinery must remain fully operational and the staff must carry out their duties with a spirit of public service.
He also made it clear that any negligence or lapse in drainage efforts would not be tolerated.
He also directed the Managing Director (MD) Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) to stay present in the field and actively monitor the performance of operational teams.
He emphasized the strategic deployment of machinery at low-lying locations to ensure the rapid removal of accumulated water.
He said that the district administration is fully committed to provide municipal and environmental services to the citizens on a top priority.
He appealed to the public to adopt precautionary measures during rainfall to avoid any untoward incidents.
He also directed WASA to keep alternative power sources such as generators fully functional at all times to prevent disruptions in drainage operations.

President, PM praise security forces for Awaran operation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 16 (APP):President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday commended the security forces for a successful operation against “Fitna-al-Hindustan” in Awaran, Balochistan province.
The president and the prime minister praised the professionalism of the security forces for sending three terrorists of ‘Fitna-al-Hindustan’ to hell during the operation, President Secretariat and PM Office Media Wings said in separate press releases.
The president and the prime minister also paid tribute to Major Syed Rab Nawaz Tariq, who embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely against terrorists.
The president and the prime minister prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks and the grant of patience and fortitude for the bereaved family. The president said that the nation would always remember the sacrifices of its shuhada and reiterated the firm resolve to complete elimination of terrorists and elements of Fitna al Hindustan.
The security forces would continue their operations against terrorists till their complete eradication, he added. “We will continue the fight against the scourge of terrorism till it is completely eradicated from the country,” the press release quoted the prime minister as saying.
He said that the entire nation, including himself, was proud of their martyrs and their families, adding the officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army were dedicated to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy. “In the fight against terrorism, the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with our brave armed forces,” he further added.
