Gold prices surge

LAHORE, Jun 21 (APP): Gold price witnessed another hike in the country on Saturday, amid upward trend in the international market.
According to local Sarafa Association sources, one tola gold increased by Rs1465 to Rs3,58465, while 10 grams of gold increased by Rs1256 to Rs3,07325. Apart from this, a tola silver dropped by Rs11 to Rs3785.
Gold in the global market rose $ 13 to $ 3369 an ounce.

He said that her sacrifices for democracy remain an unforgettable chapter in Pakistan’s history. “Her vision and ideas still serve as a guiding light for the nation’s democratic leadership,” he added.

Deputy Speaker said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a staunch advocate for equal opportunities, emphasizing the political inclusion of youth, women, and minorities as essential for national progress.

While praising her role in rekindling political consciousness, he said, “She revived the People’s Party in line with Quaid-e-Awam’s mission and instilled new hope among youth.

Deputy Speaker acknowledged the Pakistan Peoples Party’s continued commitment to democratic values under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

“The party has played a pivotal role in strengthening parliamentary traditions and democratic continuity,” he added.

He also commended Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his prudent and effective diplomacy in presenting Pakistan’s stance on global platforms, especially concerning Pak-India conflicts.

Animal rights experts call for humane treatment towards city’s stray dogs

ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP): Civil society members, animal-friendly citizens, activists and animal rights experts have called for humane treatment towards strayed dogs at stray dog population control center working under Capital Development Authority (CDA), emphasizing it working against the rights of every voiceless.

Speaking at press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad (NPC) here Saturday, the participants including Altamush Saeed, renowned actress Mishi Khan,George, Anila, Paresh Khan and others highlighted the lack of medical expertise, animal friendly behavior, training facilities and etc for stray dogs at the center, citing that the negligence might poses risks not only to animal welfare but also to public health, said a press release on Saturday.

They reiterated that the cruelties and inhumane treatment towards stray dog there clearly indicated lack of attention towards animals, demanding the dignity, protection and humane treatment of the city’s stray dogs.

They noted that their struggle in this regard not a fight of any specific group, but a joint effort of civil society, citizens, activists, veterinary doctors, lawyers, journalists, students neighbors and other, who believe in compassion and justice.

They also informed that the matter will soon be taken to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) once again, as the previous decision still not implemented.

CM message on World Music Day

LAHORE, Jun 21 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has highlighted the profound emotional power of music, stating that “whether it is joy or sorrow, separation or reunion, music has the ability to express every emotion.”
In her message on World Music Day, the CM praised the contributions of Pakistani artists, noting that they have played a key role in giving Eastern music international recognition. “Our musicians have taken the soul of the East to the global stage, earning respect and admiration across cultures,” she said.
The CM said that the Punjab government, through the Ministry of Information and Culture and Alhamra Arts Council, is actively supporting and training young artists to promote creativity and preserve cultural heritage. She added that financial assistance to underprivileged artists continues through the Artist Support Fund, reflecting the government’s commitment to uplifting the artistic community.
Music is a universal language of peace, she added. It transcends boundaries and serves as an ambassador of love and harmony.

KPT recovers encroached land, 6 shops demolished

KARACHI, Jun 21 (APP): Karachi Port Trust (KPT), in a joint operation on Saturday, demolished 6 shops and recovered 172 square meters of its land from illegal encroachment.
KPT, according to a statement issued here, conducted a joint takeover operation at its encroached land adjacent to plot A-15, Mauripur Road and demolished 6 illegally constructed shops via deployment of heavy machinery to recover 172 square meters of land.
The operation was jointly conducted by the law enforcement agencies, Port Security personnel, Port Intelligence personnel and other concerned KPT officials.
The anti-encroachment team of KPT was vigilantly engaged in making recoveries of encroached land under the PM Task Force, it said, adding that the operation was supported and fully backed by the law enforcement agencies and efforts have resulted in recovering land worth billions of rupees from the clutches of land grabbers and  mafia.

National player urged parents to vaccinate children

RAWALPINDI, Jun 21 (APP): Parents across Pakistan have been urged to ensure their children receive polio drops in every campaign until the country is declared as polio-free. The appeal was made by renowned Test cricketer Sajid Khan and District Health Officer, Dr. Ehsan Ghani during a public awareness event held here on Saturday.
They warned that polio is a dangerous disease that can permanently paralyze children, with no cure, only vaccination offers protection.
“I urge parents to administer polio vaccines every time. I will continue meeting my Pakistani brothers to remind them of their responsibility. My support will persist until polio is completely eradicated from Pakistan”, he said .
Appreciating Polio workers for their hard work during the immunization drives, Sajid urged that citizens must cooperate with the polio field teams who come to their doorstep only to protect children from disability.
“If even one child misses the drops, it poses a risk to others. Parents must understand that vaccination is the only way to prevent polio”, DHO Dr. Sajjad Ghani said while interacting with the citizens.
Dr. Sajjad highlighted that Pakistan remains one of the few countries where the polio virus still exists. Environmental samples and new cases in some areas indicate the ongoing threat.
He reiterated that the government and its partners are committed to eradicating polio, and the support of national heroes like Sajid Khan is vital in building public trust and awareness.
During the campaign, people were awared that polio is a highly contagious virus that primarily affects children under five. It attacks the nervous system, causing permanent disability within hours and, in some cases, results fatal. There is no cure for polio, repeated vaccination is the only means of prevention.
Sajid Khan repeated that polio drops are safe, effective, and essential, requiring administration in every campaign for complete protection.

Two policemen killed in firing attack

SWABI, June 21 (APP):: Two police officials were tragically killed last night in a targeted attack by unknown assailants near the Gadoon area, police said on Saturday.
The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of IDS Police Station, when two police jawans gunned down while they were having a meal at a local restaurant.
The attackers opened fire on them, resulting in both dying at the scene. The victims were later identified at a nearby hospital as Constable Jamal Din and driver Zahid.
Following the attack, the assailants managed to escape the scene. A large police contingent has since arrived, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend those involved in killing.

NA Speaker condoles over death of Ejaz Jakhrani’s mother
