ANF arrests 7 smugglers with over 198 kg of drugs worth Rs 16.3 mln

RAWALPINDI, Jun 02 (APP):The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), conducting eight operations across the country, recovered as many as 198.711 kilograms of drugs worth more than Rs 16.3 million and arrested seven suspects, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman on Monday.
He informed that 2.670 kg of Narcotics hidden in books were recovered from a parcel sent to Qatar from a courier office in Aabpara, Islamabad.
As much as 34 grams of weed were recovered from a parcel sent to the UK from a mail office in Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi.
In another operation,6 kg of hashish was recovered from a vehicle near a shopping mall on Peshawar Ring Road, and three suspects were arrested.
Similarly,132 kg of hashish was recovered from a rickshaw in Surjani Town, Karachi, and two suspects were arrested.
As many as 6 kg of hashish, 2.4 kg of opium, 2.546 kg of ice and 0.231 kg of heroin were recovered from a motorcyclist in Faisalabad.
During other operations,24 kg of hashish was recovered from a vehicle near Kamalpur Interchange, Faisalabad, and the accused was arrested.
1.5 kg of ice recovered from a hotel near Torkham Zero Line border, while 24 kilograms of hashish hidden for smuggling were recovered in Panjgur Bonistan.
Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under the Narcotics Control Act, and further investigations are underway.

CPO orders speedy justice

FAISALABAD, Jun 02 (APP):City Police Officer (CPO) Sahibzada Bilal Umar has directed police officers to ensure speedy justice in addition to adopting zero tolerance policy against criminal activities across the district.
Addressing an open court (Khuli Katcheri) in his office here on Monday, he said that it was the first and foremost duty of police to provide full safety and security to the lives and properties of people. In this connection, he directed  police officials to address public grievances immediately but strictly on merit.
He also highlighted the internal accountability and said that any mistreatment of citizens or undue delay in the registration of cases would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He directed police officers to act with responsibility and fairness and said that all applications must be handled with honesty and diligence. He also heard public complaints and issued orders for their redress.

Rescue 1122 Murree, other departments hold mock exercise to ensure timely relief operations in emergencies

RAWALPINDI, Jun 02 (APP):Rescue 1122 Murree and other relevant departments on Monday carried out a big mock exercise to ensure timely relief operations in any emergency, including road traffic accidents, traffic control, forest fire incidents and landslides.
The exercise undertaken on the instructions of the District Administration Murree at Shawala was aimed at ensuring the implementation of the Emergency Core Plan for Eid-ul-Azha, summer season and the upcoming monsoon season, a DPR news release said.
“The aim of the mock exercise was to improve the capabilities of the departments, devise better strategies to handle accidents and timely control of forest fires, besides ensuring the protection of wildlife and the timely transfer of affected tourists and citizens to safe places in emergency situations,” it added.
During the mock exercise, special attention was paid to the procedures of various relief operations and steps were taken to make the immediate response effective by promoting coordination between departments and protecting natural resources and human lives from threats posed by any emergency.
The teams of relevant departments demonstrated their skills practically. The heads of all relevant departments were also present on the occasion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Murree Kamran Saghir and Assistant Commissioner Murree Faisal Ahmed inspected the exercise.
On the occasion, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Murree Engineer Kamran Rashid said that preventive measures were necessary before any disaster.
“Joint mock exercises improve our capabilities as well as strengthen communication between different departments so that effective action can be taken in any emergency situation. Similar training exercises will be held in the future as well to further improve the capabilities to deal with emergencies,” he added.

WASA warns of action over dumping animal waste in drains

FAISALABAD, Jun 02 (APP):Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) has warned citizens to avoid from dumping animal waste in the drains on Eid-ul-Azha otherwise strict action would be taken without any discrimination.
In a message here on Monday, Managing Director WASA Aamer Aziz has urged the citizens to refrain from disposing of animal waste and sacrificial remains into main sewer channels and drainage lines during the days of Eid-ul-Azha and said that such practices severely disrupt the sewerage disposal system and may lead to legal consequences.
He highlighted the operational challenges faced by WASA during Eid festivities and said that throwing animal offal and waste into drains causes severe blockages. This practice not only results in the malfunctioning of sewage disposal system but also leads to widespread public inconvenience and puts immense pressure on WASA’s response teams due to the surge in complaints.
He advised the people to dispose of sacrificial waste properly and responsibly to ensure uninterrupted sanitation services.
He also requested the citizens to cooperate with WASA by not throwing remains into main drainage channels as it compromises the entire city’s drainage infrastructure.
He said that WASA free helpline 1334 is fully operational 24/7 and the people can register any complaints regarding drainage or sewerage issues through this service.
He also announced that WASA’s Drainage Directorate will be monitoring key areas during Eid and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found dumping animal waste into the sewer system.

Man held for misbehaving with polio worker

According to police sources, the accused identified as Jamil had misbehaved and threatened Najma Bibi in Muridwala police area. On a complaint made by the woman, the police held the accused and registered a case against him.

RPO Rawalpindi chairs meeting to prevent road traffic accidents on highways

RAWALPINDI, Jun 02 (APP):A high-level meeting was held at the regional police office in chair of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa about to reduce traffic accidents caused by heavy vehicles on GT Road, highways, and other major routes.
The officials from the National Highways and Motorway Police, senior traffic officers from Rawalpindi, and traffic officers from Taxila, Cantt, and Mehrabad attended the meeting.
DPO Attock, Sardar Ghiyas Gul, joined through video link.
Participants shared their suggestions on how to prevent deadly accidents caused by overloaded trucks, dumpers, tractor trolleys, and public transport vehicles.
RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa emphasized the need for joint action by the Motorway Police and District Traffic Police.
He directed strict checks on driver licenses and vehicle fitness certificates.
The vehicles lacking proper documents should not be allowed on the roads, he said.
“To save lives, a strict crackdown against overloaded vehicles must be launched, and traffic SOPs should be strictly followed,” he added.
The RPO also instructed officers to use social media to educate drivers about road safety.
He stressed the importance of field monitoring and training sessions for drivers to help them understand traffic rules, the dangers of overloading, and the need for vehicle fitness.
“These steps will not only reduce the number of accidents but also create a safer travel environment for everyone,” RPO Alpa concluded.

FCCI pays tributes to PM, military leadership

FAISALABAD, Jun 02 (APP):The Executive Committee of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) paid tributes to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and valiant armed forces of Pakistan for successfully foiling Indian aggression against Pakistan.
The FCCI Executive Committee met under the Chairmanship of President FCCI Mr. Rehan Naseem Bharara.
Executive Committee member Hajji Muhammad Attaullah moved a resolution to pay tribute to the Pak armed forces who successfully downed five Indian jets in addition to destroying the strategic military targets.
The house unanimously approved the resolution which appreciated the dynamic leadership of PM Shehbaz Sharif and military acumen and professionalism of Field Marshal Asim Munir who successfully repulsed the Indian attack within a shortest possible time.
The resolution said that the befitting response would be remembered by Indian warmongers and serve as a strong deterrent to any future adventurism by India. The resolution further said that our army, air force and Pak navy are fully prepared to thwart any foreign aggression and safeguard the geographical boundaries of Pakistan.
It said that India despite its huge military buildup failed to intimidate Pakistan and our forces have proved beyond any doubt that they are fully capable of defending the solidarity and integrity of Pakistan in addition to foiling hegemonic designs of India in South Asia.

Funeral prayer of martyred policeman offered

KARACHI, Jun 02 (APP):The funeral prayer of police constable Shehryar Ali, who was martyred in Karachi the other day by unidentified assailants, was held at the Central Police Office (CPO), Karachi on Monday.
A smartly turned-out contingent of Sindh Police presented a guard of honour to the martyred cop.
Constable Shehryar Ali, posted with the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC), embraced martyrdom in the jurisdiction of Yousuf Plaza Police Station following targeted firing by unknown suspects.
The funeral was attended by IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IGP Establishment, Additional IGP Karachi, zonal DIGPs, DIGP – CIA, DIGP – Traffic, district SSPs of Karachi, senior officers, personnel, the martyr’s family members, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon along with other senior officials offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
“We will bring the perpetrators to justice at all costs,” said IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon.
He further assured the family of full support from Sindh Police during this difficult time.
