Emergency security measures in Govt colleges of Punjab

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP):Emergency measures have been introduced to strengthen security arrangements at government colleges across Punjab.
Sources in the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges Punjab told APP that an instruction letter has been issued on a priority and most urgent basis to divisional directors, deputy directors, and principals of all government colleges.
The letter directs that agreements with private security companies be finalized immediately for all government colleges in Punjab. In this regard, a list of 128 private security companies licensed by the Punjab government has been circulated, from which security personnel will be hired.
According to DPI Punjab, each college will be provided with one security supervisor and three armed security guards, bringing the total security staff at each institution to four. The security supervisor will be authorized to carry one weapon.
The letter further instructs that private security personnel be hired without delay. Until funds were formally released by the finance department, payments to the security staff will be made temporarily from college funds. At the initial stage, colleges themselves will bear the cost of these arrangements.
DPI Punjab stated that the objective of these measures is to improve the law and order situation on college campuses and ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff. All concerned officers have been directed to implement the instructions immediately and in full.

Annual Christmas ceremony held at Naulakha Presbyterian Church

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP):The annual Christmas ceremony was celebrated at Naulakha Presbyterian Church, Lahore, in an atmosphere of devotion, joy, and interfaith harmony, under the patronage of Rev. Dr. Majid Abel, here on Monday.
The event was attended by Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora, parliamentary secretary Sonia Asher, former Senator Kamran Michael, Ameer Jamate Islami, and other prominent religious and social figures.
Welcoming the distinguished guests, Rev. Dr. Majid Abel said that the gathering of people from different faiths and communities under one roof reflected the true spirit of Christmas, emphasizing unity, love, and mutual respect.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Ramesh Singh Arora highlighted that Christmas conveys a message of joy, sharing, reflection, and humanity. He noted that, on the directives of the Chief Minister Punjab, the provincial government has organized province-wide Christmas celebrations for the first time, including an interfaith Christmas tour on double-decker buses, spreading messages of love, tolerance, and unity across Lahore.
The minister also announced that, as a special Christmas initiative, the number of Minority Cards has been increased to 100,000, further supporting the welfare and empowerment of the Christian community.
Sonia Asher said that the Punjab government is taking concrete steps to safeguard minority rights and promote education, health, employment, and social protection, recognizing minorities as equal partners in Punjab’s development.
Speakers including Ameer Jamate Islami, Ramzan Sualvi, and former Senator Kamran Michael highlighted the shared values of peace, tolerance, and compassion across religions and acknowledged the historic contributions of the Christian community to Pakistan’s development.
The church was adorned with colorful lights, festive decor, and a Christmas tree. Religious songs were performed, conveying messages of peace, love, and unity. The ceremony concluded with Provincial Minister Ramesh Singh Arora, alongside elders of the Christian community and other participants, cutting the Christmas cake and extending heartfelt Christmas greetings, highlighting the Punjab government’s full support to the Christian community.

CM Punjab congratulates nation on successful test of surface-to-air missile

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has congratulated the nation on the successful test firing of a surface-to-air missile FM-90 NR, paying rich tribute to the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Armed Forces for the accomplishment.
In her message, the CM said the Pakistan Navy had demonstrated its superiority and operational excellence in the North Arabian Sea, reflecting the country’s robust maritime defense capabilities.
The chief minister expressed confidence that, by the grace of Allah Almighty, Pakistan’s land, naval, and air defense remain in safe and capable hands. She also underscored the invaluable role of the Pakistan Navy in safeguarding the nation’s maritime frontiers, describing its contribution as remarkable and unforgettable.

Court grants interim bail to social media influencers in gambling app promotion case

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP): A local court on Monday granted interim bail to YouTuber Rajab Butt and TikToker Nadeem Mubarak in a case related to the alleged promotion of a gambling application.
Both content creators appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge Mansoor Ali Qureshi for obtaining bail.
The counsel argued before the court that his clients wanted to join investigation to prove their innocence.  He requested the court to grant bail to his clients.
At this, the court  approved interim bail for Rajab Butt and Nadeem until January 6. The court also directed both accused to join the investigation.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered cases against several YouTubers on charges of promoting and encouraging a gambling application, including Butt and Mubarak.

Food outlets penalized

GUJRAT, Dec 15 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) further intensified its food safety operations and carried out a total of 213 inspections across the district.
According to a PFA spokesperson, improvement notices were issued to 78 food business operators, while fines amounting to Rs236,500 were imposed on 18 outlets for violations of food safety laws.
The spokesperson said that 37.45 kilograms of expired and prohibited food items were confiscated and destroyed to protect the public from substandard and hazardous food.
The Punjab Food Authority reiterated that strict action would continue against violators of food safety regulations and that ensuring the provision of safe and quality food to the public remains its top priority.

Excise recovers 6,000g of hashish, hundreds of intoxicant pills

PESHAWAR, Dec 15 (APP):The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conducted major operations in the districts of Peshawar and Khyber, resulting in the recovery of a large quantity of narcotics, intoxicant pills and counterfeit currency.
Several suspects, including a key accused, were arrested and cases have been registered at the relevant police stations.
These operations were carried out in continuation of the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs and on the directives of Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jahan.
In one operation, under the supervision of SHO Excise Police Station Peshawar, Dr. Hamidullah Khan, Inspector Syed Sher Shah along with other officials set up a checkpoint on Bara Road. During the checking of a motorcycle rider, 3,600 grams of hashish were recovered. The accused attempted to flee but was apprehended on the spot. A case has been registered at Excise Police Station Peshawar and further investigation is underway.
In another operation, the Excise Police Station Khyber team foiled a drug smuggling attempt near the Karkhano Check Post and recovered 2,400 grams of hashish. The accused was arrested and legal proceedings were initiated.
Meanwhile, further progress has been made in Case No. 25/23 registered at Excise Police Station Khyber. According to the department, on December 6, 2025, a raid was conducted at a shop in Karkhano Market, Peshawar, under the supervision of Circle Officer Faisal Khan and leadership of SHO Excise Police Station Khyber, Majid Hussain. During the raid, 208 intoxicant pills weighing 187 grams were recovered and a facilitator was arrested. Subsequently, during the course of investigation, the main accused, Asif son of Abdul Karim, has also been arrested.
In another action, under the supervision of Provincial In-charge Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation, Saud Khan Gandapur, Inspector Fakhar Alam Khan conducted an operation on the basis of secret information at Karkhano Phatak in the jurisdiction of Khyber. A young man, Hamza Sharif son of Sharif, resident of Lahore, was arrested and 240 intoxicant HTC pills weighing 153 grams were recovered from his possession.

Gold price surged by Rs2,600 per tola

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP):Gold prices in Pakistan on Monday increased due to the increase in gold prices in the global market.
According to local bullion markets, the new global price of gold has reached $4,325 due to an increase of $26 in the price of an ounce of gold in the international bullion market, while in Pakistan, the price of gold per tola has increased by Rs2,600 and the price of 10 grams of gold by Rs2,229.
Due to the increase in prices, the price of gold per tola in local bullion markets has reached Rs. 454,862 and the price of ten grams of gold has reached Rs. 389,970.
On the other hand, the price of silver per tola has also increased by Rs68 to Rs6,532 and the price of silver per 10 grams has increased by Rs59 to Rs5,600.

Professor Aftab Hayat honoured on retirement at IMCB F-10/4

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP):A retirement reference and farewell ceremony was held at Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) F-10/4 in honour of Professor Aftab Hayat on the eve of his retirement on Monday, marking the conclusion of a distinguished career spanning more than three and a half decades in the Federal Education system.
Professor Aftab Hayat was inducted as a lecturer on November 20, 1990, and rendered devoted service at several Federal Government colleges, including Islamabad Model Postgraduate College H-8, IMCB Nilore, IMCB H-9, and, most recently, IMCB F-10/4.
He retired on December 15 after completing over 35 years of dedicated academic and administrative service.
Dr Fida-ul-Mustafa took the stage and paid tribute to the retiring professor, recalling his academic contributions and principled approach to teaching.
Several colleagues and former associates also spoke on the occasion, shedding light on Professor Aftab Hayat’s scholarly excellence, discipline, and supportive role in nurturing students and junior faculty members.
The Principal of IMCB F-10/4, Professor Rashid Saleem, expressed heartfelt sentiments on behalf of the college faculty.
He extended best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling post-retirement life, noting that his contributions would be remembered with respect and gratitude.

National Disability Alliance Observes World Disability Day

HYDERABAD, Dec 15 (APP):National Disability Alliance (NDA) under secretariat of National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) with collaboration of DEPD department Government of Sindh and ADDTF ,observed World Disability Day in Shahpur Chakar with the participation of civil society representatives, disability rights activists, and community members.
Speaking on the occasion, Abid Lashari, President NDF Pakistan, emphasized that disability should not be viewed as a person’s limitation but as a responsibility of society.
He stated that it is the inaccessible environment, negative attitudes, and lack of inclusive policies that make persons with disabilities marginalized. He stressed the urgent need for accessible infrastructure, inclusive education, and equal opportunities. He further said that DEPD Department Government of Sindh is implementing Disability law 2018 with it’s spirit, the Rehabilitation, Empowerment, Education especially inclusive education are the at top priority. NDF hopes Sindh Government will keep spirit high to promote inclusion in the Society at large.
Tariq Hussain Channar, Program Manager NDF, highlighted NDF’s ongoing efforts to promote disability inclusion at community and policy levels.
He called upon government institutions, local authorities, and development partners to ensure enabling and accessible environments for persons with disabilities.
Mumtaz Ali Mangi, President ASHA Sanghar, along with Ms. Razia Dhamrah, Mr. Nawaz Brohi, Abdul Qadir Dahri and other speakers, shed light on the significance of World Disability Day. They collectively demanded barrier-free public spaces, inclusive services, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in social and economic life.
The speakers unanimously reiterated that disability is not the issue; rather, it is the environment that disables people.
They urged stakeholders to move from a charity-based approach to a rights-based and inclusive development model.
The event concluded with a strong call for collective action to create an inclusive, accessible, and dignified society for persons with disabilities.

CM Mayram’s e-Governance initiatives meant to facilitate people, business community: Commissioner

MULTAN, Dec 15 (APP):Emphasizing ease of doing business and public facilitation as the core objectives behind e-governance, e-Biz and online portal initiatives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Commissioner Amir Kareem Khan said on Monday that Punjab government was committed to providing public services, including NOCs and other civic facilities, through an online portal to ensure transparency, efficiency and relief for citizens.
“The online system will eliminate unnecessary visits to offices, speed up processes and help restore public trust,” he said while presiding over a meeting here.
Commissioner Khan also discussed with officials the measures for improving commercial infrastructure across the division.
He directed all relevant departments to work in coordination to improve the business environment and facilitate the business community adding that applicants seeking NOCs should be granted approvals on a priority basis strictly in accordance with the law, while pending cases must be reviewed and decided without delay.
He issued strict instructions for indiscriminate action against illegal constructions, violations of building by-laws and unauthorised housing schemes, warning that constructions without NOCs would be sealed and proceeded against as per law.
The meeting also discussed the Punjab government’s E-Business (E-Biz) Program, launched under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to promote digital governance and facilitate entrepreneurs. The commissioner directed officials to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign about the program in simple and easy language with technical support from Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
An awareness draft highlighting the application procedure and benefits, comprising eight to ten key points, be prepared and circulated through social media official pages, panaflexes and digital platforms.
The government’s priority is to create a conducive environment for commercial activities, encourage traders and ensure maximum citizens benefit from government facilities, Aamir Karim Khan said.
Deputy commissioners, chief officers of municipal corporations, district council representatives and officers from concerned departments attended the meeting.
