“Growing Pains: Parking Challenges Mount in Satellite Town”

0

RAWALPINDI, Jul 22 (APP): Motorists in the bustling commercial hub of Satellite Town continue to grapple with the lack of parking spaces – a problem that has worsened as the area experiences increasing commercial development and population density.
Finding a parking space for vehicles particularly in evening hours has become a daunting task for both residents and shoppers alike.
Kashif Chaudhry, a local motorist, voiced his concerns about the growing inconvenience. “The lack of parking space makes it extremely difficult for us to park our vehicles. This issue often leads to unnecessary traffic snarls and delays. The authorities concerned must take concrete steps to address this problem,” he said.
With Satellite Town being a focal point for businesses, shops, and markets, the limited availability of parking lots has emerged as a major bottleneck for traffic movement and pedestrians’ safety. Many motorists are forced to park their vehicles far from their intended destinations, increasing foot traffic in already congested areas.
An official of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), however, assured that several infrastructural projects were underway aimed at easing parking and traffic woes. “We are actively working on plans to construct additional parking plazas in critical commercial zones to provide more parking options for motorists.”
Furthermore, he added, the RDA was set to undertake significant road infrastructure enhancements, including the construction of new underpasses and flyovers. “These developments are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and create a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians.”
The projects, once completed, would hopefully bring the much-needed relief to Satellite Town by addressing the root causes of parking scarcity and traffic bottlenecks, the official said.
On the other hand, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima said wrong parking was creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic, directing wardens and field officers to take strict action against the violators without any discrimination.
She said wrong parking, which was one of the main causes of traffic mess on roads, would not be tolerated. The vehicles and motorcycles must be impounded in the police stations.
All-out efforts were being made to regulate city traffic, she said and urged the citizens to cooperate with traffic police so that the traffic problems could be resolved as smooth traffic flow on the city roads would ultimately save their precious time and mental torture of remaining trapped in traffic jams .
The CTO further said enhanced number of traffic wardens with lifters had been deployed at busy roads to discourage wrong parking.

Narcotics to be eradicated from Punjab: CM

0
LAHORE, Jul 22 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has vowed to eliminate drugs from the province and protect the youth from the growing menace of narcotics.
She made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (CNF), here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the passing-out parade of CNF, the CM expressed her satisfaction and pride at seeing the enthusiastic and disciplined youth who have joined the newly established force. The future of Punjab and Pakistan appears secure with the formation of this dedicated force, she said. Commending DG CNF Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal, she lauded his efforts in setting up the specialized force in a short period of time.
CM Maryam Nawaz stressed the urgent need to protect Pakistan’s youth, which constitutes 65 percent of the population, from falling victim to drug abuse. “A nation can only harness its youth as a strength if they remain healthy, educated, and free from drugs,” she said, noting the grave concern that drugs have infiltrated streets, neighborhoods, schools, colleges, and universities.
The CM said that one of the most pressing appeals she received from parents was to protect their children from narcotics. She termed the presence of drugs in communities as a national tragedy and stressed that the formation of CNF was inevitable. She said that 12,000 applications were received for recruitment, from which 850 personnel have been selected purely on merit. She congratulated the newly inducted officers and their families, adding that CNF is now operational in all divisions of Punjab and will soon be extended to all districts.
CM Maryam Nawaz also underlined her broader vision of addressing Punjab’s challenges through the creation of specialized institutions. She mentioned the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Punjab Police, which has significantly reduced crime rates across the province in just a few weeks. “Criminals are now surrendering, and crime is visibly declining in many districts,” she said.
She further cited the Punjab Economic Reforms Authority (PERA), already active in Lahore Division, as another example of the government’s swift institutional response to issues such as inflation, hoarding, land encroachments, and mafia activities.
The CM said, “Even a single drug addict in a household becomes a source of immense suffering for the entire family. CNF must ensure that no street, neighborhood, or city in Punjab remains under the shadow of drugs.” She urged CNF personnel to carry out their duties with honesty, courage, and without yielding to any pressure or temptation. “You are not just protecting this generation, you are saving future generations from destruction,” she asserted.
The CM expressed her hope and prayer that the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force would become a source of pride not only for Punjab but for all of Pakistan. She said CNF now shoulders the critical responsibility of steering the province’s youth away from drugs and toward a healthy, productive future.

CM Gandapur’s arrest warrants intact as statement delayed again in liquor, illegal arms case

0
ISLAMABAD, Jul 22 (APP): The court of Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hasan Chishti on Tuesday maintained the arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur after his statement under Section 342 could not be recorded in an ongoing case involving alleged possession of liquor and illegal weapons.
The case, registered at Bhara Kahu police station, was scheduled for hearing, but Gandapur did not appear in person. His lawyer, Raja Zahoor-ul-Hasan, informed the court that the Chief Minister was engaged in official duties due to heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The lawyer assured the court that Gandapur was ready to record his statement via video link at 3 PM.
However, when the court reconvened in the afternoon, the court staff was unable to establish a stable internet connection despite repeated attempts. As a result, the statement could not be recorded, and the judge decided to continue with the arrest warrants against Gandapur.
Earlier in the proceedings, Gandapur’s lawyer questioned the court’s earlier orders and argued that they should be allowed to present the statement via video link. He challenged the court, asking under what law Gandapur’s right to record his statement under Section 342 could be denied if they failed to comply. The lawyer argued, “This is not Emperor Akbar’s court where decisions were made on whims.”
Judge Chishti responded that his written orders clearly explained the procedure. He also emphasized that the court was equipped with its own LCD and video facilities, eliminating the need to connect elsewhere.
After the interruption caused by technical issues, the court issued further directives stating that Gandapur would be given another opportunity to record his statement either in person or via video link. The judge also reminded the defense that a show-cause notice had already been issued to Gandapur for his absence and instructed him to submit a written reply.
The court reiterated that the arrest warrants for Gandapur would remain valid until his statement is recorded. The next hearing has been scheduled for July 24, when the Chief Minister is expected to comply.
