Pak Army distributes relief items among heavy rain victims

ISLAMABAD, Apr 8 (APP): Pakistan Army troops has distributed various relief items including tents, ration packs, medicines and blankets among the heavy rains victims of Chilas, Barseen and Patan through helicopters.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), 33 tons
wheat was also despatched to Gilgit from Rawalpindi on Friday.

Overall, 600 Army Troops and 96 engineering plants pieces are employed for restoration of infrastructure, said a press release issued here.

Bosan stressed to use modern technologies in agriculture

Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayaat Khan Bosan on
Friday stressed the need to use modern technologies in
agriculture sector to ensure food security in the region.

He was addressing the 3rd annual meeting of South Asian
Association of Regional Countries (SAARC) agriculture
ministers in Dhaka, on April 7, said a statement received here on Friday.

He was all praise for such a forum where the
collaborative efforts would be rendered to find out
sustainable solutions for various issues regarding agriculture
sector.

UN voices concern over death sentences in Bangladesh

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 8 (APP): The United Nations human rights office Friday expressed concern over the latest death sentences handed down against two leaders of an opposition party by the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal, pointing out that the court’s practices have not met international standards of fair trial and due process.

The two leaders are: Mir Quasem Ali and Motiur Rahman Nizami of the opposition Jamaat e Islami.

Since its inception in 2010, the tribunal has delivered at least 17 verdicts, the majority of which have resulted in the imposition of the death penalty. So far, four men have been executed, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

ISLAMABAD, April 8 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Friday it was strange that chief of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Imran wanted to come on PTV but was reluctant to appear before inquiry commission.

Talking to media persons after attending a function in which
nephew of former Azad Kashmir President Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan joined Pakistan Muslim League, here he said “It is strange that Imran wants to come on the PTV, but he does not want to appear before the inquiry commission and give proofs, if he has any.”

Those opposing the constitution of the inquiry commission of
Panama leaks, knew that when truth was known they would have to face embarrassment, he said.

KARACHI, April 8 (APP): Government is fully aware of health issues in the country and endeavouring to remove bottlenecks affecting health sector and service delivery of healthcare to masses.

This was stated by Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar.
She was speaking as chief guest at the third convocation of the Bahria University Medical and Dental College here Friday.
The students with distinctions were also conferred with gold and silver Medals as well as certificates for their outstanding achievements.
In all, 91 graduating students were also awarded degrees by the chief guest.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 8 (APP): All channels of Radio Pakistan would be available on mobile phones in two or three months due to hard work by radio professionals, Secretary Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Syed Muhammad Irman Gardezi said on Friday.

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony at Pakistan
Broadcasting Academy, he said the merit based induction would give a new lease of life to Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).

The ceremony was held on completion six
month training course for newly inducted 118 sub editors, produces, and senior broadcast engineers.

During a briefing, Managing Director APP Masood Malik apprised the visiting media persons of the mechanism of APP’s news gathering in multi-languages, editing and its transmission to subscribers – newspapers, television channels and foreign news agencies.

PM working to make country peaceful, prosperous as per dreams of Quaid, Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Apr 8 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Dr. Asif Kirmani Friday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was making efforts to make the country peaceful and prosperous as per dreams of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

He said there was a huge difference between the current situation of the country as compared to 2013’s Pakistan.

Kirmani expressed the hope that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would clean sweep in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, adding some politicians of AJK who were used to spoke against PML-N and its leadership had realized that PML-N would get majority in the elections.

KARACHI, April 8 (APP): Federal Minister of Planning,
Development and Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal Friday said the Federal Government and all provinces are on the same page to make integrated efforts for sustainable development of the country.

He said that after passage of 18th Constitutional Amendment, the provinces have important role in the national development process.

Without active role of provinces, the national development
targets could not be achieved, he added.
