Nisar directs NADRA to computerize visa process, record

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday directed National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to computerize Pakistani visa process and its pervious record.

Chairing a high-level meeting here, he further directed the NADRA authorities to continue process of developing Data Bank of international NGOs and continue updating process.
He said that this process would help facilitate registered INGOs and make their working easy.
The meeting, attended by Chairman NADRA and senior officers of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Minister of Interior, reviewed various issues including SOPs for deportee from different countries, registration on INGOs process,
Computerized Visa regime and evolving mechanism for regarding Police and FIA offices for showing good performance.
The minister directed the officials to finalize the SOPs regarding deportee by keeping in view their nature.
The meeting also revived in detail the steps taken to make NACTA effective.
The minister directed FIA to continue its operation against human smugglers and was briefed about legal process taken against arrested human traffickers.
The minister also directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive policy and mechanism so as to give cash reward to those performing outstanding duties. He said that those officers showing good performance would be encouraged through rewards.

PM visits Gohar Ayub’s residence; condoles demise of his wife

COAS confirms death penalty to 9 terrorists

RAWALPINDI, Jan 1 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS)  General Raheel Sharif on Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to nine hardcore terrorists, who were guilty of committing heinous offences.
According to ISPR, the convicts were found involved in henious terror acts including attack on Parade Lane Mosque Rawalpindi, Inter Services Intelligence Headquarters Multan, attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies, kidnapping and killing civilians in Lahore.
These convicts were tried by military courts.
The details of each case is as:
The convict Muhammad Ghauri, son of Javed Iqbal was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and in-charge media cell of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
He was involved in an attack on Parade Lane Mosque, Rawalpindi, which resulted in death of 38 persons and injuries to 57 others.
He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and trial
court.He was tried on four charges and awarded death sentence.
Abdul Qayyum, son of Ameer Muhammad was an active member of Harkat ul Jehad-e-Islam, Punjab.He was involved in attack on Inter Services Intelligence Headquarters, Multan, which resulted in death of 7 individuals besides injuring 72 others.
He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and trial
court.He was tried on seven charges and awarded death sentence.
Muhammad Imran, son of Abdul Manan was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He was involved in terrorists acts and attacking Law Enforcement Agencies which caused death/injuries to civilians and soldiers.
He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and trial
court.He was tried on four charges and awarded death sentence.
Aksan Mehboob, son of Asghar Ali was an active member of Al-Qaida.He was involved in attacking the Law Enforcement Agencies by using fire arms which resulted in death and injuries to soldiers.

court.He was tried on four charges and awarded death sentence.
Adbul Rauf Gujjar, son of Rehmat Ali, Muhammad Hashim, son of Muhammad Abdullah, Sulaman, son of Boneer, Shafqat Farooqi, son of Malik Liaqat Ali and Muhammad Farhan, son of Muhammad Rafique were active member of Sepah-e-Sahaba.
All five were involved in killing of civilians at Lahore.
While accused Rauf Gujjar was punished for target killing of
four civilians identified as Syed Shakir Ali Rizvi, Syed Waqar
Haider, Syed Arshad Ali and Ghulam Mustafa as well as causing injuries to Abdul Sattar Tahir and Anwar Hussain at Lahore.
Other accused Hashim and Farhan were involved in murder of Ghulam Mustafa and injuring Anwar Hussain. The both convicts admitted their offences before the Magistrate.
Convict Rauf Gujjar was tried on eight charges whereas
convicts Hashim, Suleman, Shafqat and Farhan were tried on four charges each and all have been awarded death sentence.

National Savings collected Rs 131 bln till Dec 28

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP): The Central Directorate of National
Savings (CDNS) has collected Rs 131 billion as against the
proportionate target of Rs 151 billion till December 28, during the current fiscal year (2015-16).
An official of the CDNS told APP here on Friday, the estimated target of the national savings for the year 2015-16 has been set for Rs 302 bln.
Likewise, he said during the first quarter of current fiscal
year, the CDNC collected Rs 82 bln as against the proportionate target of Rs 66 bln.

The official said that the federal government has also started
making adjustments in the profit rates on new saving schemes from Dec 1, 2015.
He said the instant revision was made in the backdrop of
current market scenario and in accordance with the government’s policy to provide market based competitive rate of return  to the investors of National Savings.
As per notification issued by the federal government, the
new rates for Special Savings Certificates, Regular Income
Certificates, Defence Savings Certificates and Savings Accounts have been fixed at average 6.60 percent, 7.536 percent, 8.68 percent and 4.15 percent respectively.
The official said the profit rate of return for specialized
Savings Schemes like Bahbood Savings Certificates and Pensioners’ Benefit Account has also been revised and fixed at 10.56 percent in order to provide safety net to specialized segment of the society, the official said.
He said the proposal to launch registered prize bonds with
offering coupon as well as prize is also under consideration.

PM asks Pakistan’s UN Mission to project country’s positive, soft image

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday directed Pakistan’s mission to the United Nations to project a positive and soft image of Pakistan, that was endeavouring for regional and international peace.
Talking to Dr Maleeha Lodhi, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations (UN), who called on him here at the PM House, he appreciated the able representation of Pakistan at the UN.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said the Mission’s responsibility in strengthening Pakistan’s role and contribution to the United Nations in the months ahead will be important.
“We should effectively utilize our presence in the UN to project a positive and soft image of Pakistan.”
He said Pakistan needs to be shown as “a progressive democratic state, committed to the well being and prosperity of its people, and to the regional and international peace and security.”
Dr Maleeha Lodhi briefed the Prime Minister on the endeavours of the Mission for protecting and promoting Pakistan’s interests.
The Permanent Representative informed the Prime Minister that the international community supports Pakistan’s successful counter-terrorism efforts.

Dates of Pak India Foreign Secretary level talks being finalized

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31, (APP)- Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah Thursday said dates for a meeting between Pakistan and India Foreign Secretary level talks in January were being finalized and would be announced close to their talks.
The agenda of their meeting would be to finalize the schedule of the various segments of resumption of comprehensive bilateral dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi as was agreed between the two countries on Dec. 9,  Foreign Office spokesman said in a regular briefing here.

He said resumption of dialogue between Pakistan and India and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lahore last week were “two positive steps and we hope it will have a positive impact on our bilateral  relations”.

Answering another question, he said, both countries “have serious issues and disputes that have to be resolved through bilateral talks” and that was the reason the coming dialogue “is very significant” where all issues would be discussed.

Questioned on reports of establishing barbed wire on Pak-India border, the spokesman said, when the foreign secretaries of the countries would meet next month “all issues of our concern” would come up for discussion.

Asked to comment on media reports about arrest of some people linked to Islamic State or Daesh, he said investigation was underway but he was not in a position to say who had left Pakistan to its ranks.
However the spokesman said “there is no footprints of Daesh in Pakistan and we will not tolerate even the shadow of Daesh in Pakistan.” The country’s security agencies had been already alerted on the threat posed by it and the steps had been taken in this regard.

Answering a question on the scheduled quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad among Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States in January, he said consultation were underway on its agenda within quadrilateral framework.

Giving a review of the country’s foreign policy, he said that Pakistan would continue momentum of its policy generated under the vision and guidance of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in 2015 for promotion of peace and stability in the region.
Under the “the vision and guidance” of the Prime Minister,
Pakistan has been successful in enhancing its role at the international level. It has expressed its support for peaceful resolutions of conflicts and promotion of peace, stability and development has been “the hallmark of its foreign policy” during 2015, he said.

The clinching of $46 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor
Agreement, induction of Pakistan into Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as its member, facilitating talks between Afghan Government and Taliban in July 2015, the “Heart of Asia Conference” in Islamabad in August which was attended by delegates of 46 countries” signified confidence of the international community” in Pakistan’s leadership and its policies, he said.

During 2015, he said Nawaz Sharif visited Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, U.S, China, United Kingdom, Russia, France, Belarus, Malta, Central Asian Republic countries and attended the UN General Assembly session.
Questioned on 34-nations Saudi Arab alliance against terrorism , he said as had been stated before “we have joined the coalition against terrorism,”  but the extent of ‘our participation” would be decided after receiving details from Riyadh.

Replying to a question on media reports on Bangladesh’s decision to recall its envoy from Islamabad, he said, Bangladesh High Commissioner here was twice summoned to the Foreign Office with regard to the harassment of a Pakistani diplomat in Dhaka.

The Pakistani diplomat was later called back to Islamabad. However, he said, that the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh had strong bond and were very close to each other hence he urged Bangladesh to adopt a forward  looking approach as enshrined in 1974 agreement between the two countries.

Lots of scope for stronger economic ties with Bahrain; PM

He was talking to Ambassador Designate to Bahrain Javed
Malik who called on him here at the PM House.

The Prime Minister felicitated the Ambassador Designate
on his new assignment and expressed hope that he will
endeavour to bring the two countries even more closer.

Javed Malik thanked the Prime Minister and expressed his
confidence to enhance the relations between the countries
during his tenure.

Tributes paid to Quaid-e-Azam through musical show

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): A musical show featuring national and folk songs and popular melodies was presented here on Thursday by singers and instrumentalists at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in connection with the ongoing Quaid week.
Local singers enthralled the audience with the popular national songs that compelled the audience to join the singing with zeal and enthusiasm while the PNCA also presented a stage drama to pay tribute to the martyred
students of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar.
The Quaid week has been arranged by the PNCA and Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to celebrate the 139th birth anniversary of father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The weeklong celebrations included a cultural show in which students from various educational institutions of twin cities presented tableaus, national songs, speeches and other items on various stories portraying the significance of December 25 as Quaid day and the value of freedom
movement.

The council screened the movie `Jinnah’ featuring the life of
Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other freedom movement leaders and the historical moments of the making of Pakistan to pay rich tributes to the father of the nation for his valuable contribution towards the creation of Pakistan.
While an exhibition “Raushni ka Safar” has been put on display carrying portraits and historical pictures of Quaid e Azam for creating awareness among the masses about his achievements and struggle in making the country.
The exhibition comprises photographs showing Quaid’s life, his family members and various stages of Pakistan Movement. Many photographs focus on
Quaid-i-Azam holding official meetings and attending functions after creation of Pakistan. Photographs of the historical moment of Quaid addressing the first constituent Assembly on 14 August 1947 are also on display.

“Our younger generation needs to work hard by following the footsteps of Quaid. Our youth has a great potential, they can make Pakistan prosperous by adopting teachings of Quaid in its true spirit, said Director General,
PNCA, Muhammad Naeem while talking to APP.
He said the Quaid week is an attempt to highlight the importance of celebrating national days and educate the young generation about their history through informative entertainment.
Celebrating the national days with art and cultural programmes is a regular feature of PNCA’s activities that not only celebrate the occasion but also involve young talent to create awareness among the masses about the importance of historical days, he said.
“Involvement of students for highlighting the contributions of
national heroes and significance of national days through tableaus and songs, give them an opportunity to understand the history and ideologies of such events in its true perspective,” he said.

Beautiful play-land: An amazing new year gift for children from Japan: Japanese Ambassador

ISLAMABAD, Dec, 31 (APP) : Ambassador of Japan Hiroshi
Inomata handed over a beautiful renovated play-land to
Capital Development Authority ( CDA) in the area of Japanese park adjacent to Islamabad Zoo terming it an amazing new year gift for Pakistani children from Japan.

The Ambassador said this on Thursday while inaugurating
the recently renovated play-land and handing over ceremony of other playing equipments to CDA.  The ceremony was attended by Member CDA Mustafain Kazmi and other senior officials.
A large number of children from different schools of
Islamabad also attended the ceremony and performed at the
occasion which was appreciated by the participants a lot.

The Ambassador said that the children’s play land commonly
known as “Japanese Park ” was renovated with a total cost of Rs. 70 million provided by the Japan government as gift for children.
This is a part of the assistance from the Government of
Japan to Pakistan in the form of Japan’s Non Project Grant Aid aimed at contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development efforts in developing countries.

Recalling history of the Japanese Park, the Ambassador
said that in 1985, the government of Japan provided the
playing equipment along with the Japanese Park as a gift of
friendship from the children of Japan to that of Pakistan, in
commemoration of the visit of the Prime Minister Nakasone to Pakistan.

Since then, this beautiful park in the bed of Margalla
Hills had been a favourite destination for the children and
their families in Islamabad, he said.

However, after thirty years of its provision, the
equipment had become old and it was needed to be renovated and remodelled, the ambassador said.

Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador Inomata
said, “I am glade to see the Pakistani children use the play
structures very carefully for a long time. I hope they will
enjoy themselves with new ones very much, taking good care of them just as they did before.”
This is our wish that this park with newly installed
playing  equipment would contribute immensely to improving
both physical and intellectual capabilities of visiting
children, the Ambassador hoped.

Member Environment CDA Mustafain Kazmi thanked Japanese government and people of Japan for their continuous commitment to socio economic development in Pakistan.
Later, the Ambassador of Japan was also briefed about
the details of the Japanese Park in detail.

The Ambassador also visited various sites of the park
and expressed his happiness over the completion of the play
land with beautiful playing equipment.

The Ambassador also assured that Japanese government
would continue its support to Pakistan for such socio projects in future.

Surgical goods, medical instruments export post 3.95 percent increase

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): Exports of surgical goods and medical instruments registered 3.59 percent increase during first five months of current financial year as compared to corresponding period of last year.

During the period from July-November, 2015 surgical goods and medical instruments worth US$ 144.7 million exported as against the exports of US$ 139.12 million of same period last year.
According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, exports of pharmaceutical products grew by 1.66 percent and about 4,669 metric tons of pharm products valuing US$ 85.42 million exported as against the exports of 6,662 metric tons worth US$ 83.66 million of same period last year.

However, during the period under review exports of chemicals and pharm products decreased by 14.71 percent and reached at US$ 346.56 million in first five months of current financial year.
The exports of chemicals and pharma products during first five months of last financial year was recorded at 406.34 million, the data reveled.
Meanwhile, onyx manufactured exports registered 12.74 percent increase  as about 1,237 metric tons of onyx manufactured valuing US$ 3.363 million exported as against the exports of 1,187 metric tons worth of US$ 2.983 million of same period last year.
During the period from July-November, country earned US$ 65.116  million by exporting about 1,427 thousand dozen of foot balls as foot balls exports from the country registered 2.84 percent growth during the period under review.

About 1,192 thousand dozen of foot balls worth US$ 63.319 million were exported during first five months of last financial year, the data reveled.
About 896 thousand dozen of leather gloves valuing US$41.95 million  were exports during the period under review as compared to the exports of 1,243 thousand dozens worth US$ 37.519 million of same period last year.
