CM Maryam extends greetings on Sindhi Culture Day

Hina Butt attends PU seminar, reviews pink police van services

LAHORE, Dec 01 (APP): Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Pervez Butt on Monday attended a seminar at the University of the Punjab organised by the Department of Gender Studies under the “16 Days of Activism” campaign and later inspected the Pink Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit on campus.
Speaking at the seminar, she said women’s safety, empowerment and equality were global priorities and stressed that societies progressed when women were secure, confident and empowered. She added that awareness, training, positive social attitudes and easy access to justice were vital for building a strong society, noting that youth had a central role in driving change.
Hina Pervez Butt highlighted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of ensuring modern facilities, rapid response mechanisms and efficient support services for women across the province. She said PWPA was working to establish a simple and dignified protection and support system through reforms, technology and outreach initiatives.
Later, during her visit to the Pink Police Van and Licensing Unit, officials briefed her on the services being provided at citizens’ doorstep, including learner permits, driving licences, FIR registration, loss and crime reports, women support services, character certificates, police verification, and employee, tenant and vehicle registration. She termed the Pink Police Van an exemplary initiative aimed at improving convenience and access to justice for women.

Commissioner Quetta reviews traffic reforms, relocating dairy farms outside urban areas

QUETTA, Dec 01 (APP): Commissioner Quetta Division, Shahzaib Khan Kakar on Monday emphasized on improving the city’s traffic management system and relocating urban dairy farms to designated areas outside the city.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, SSP Traffic Police Quetta, the Director  Traffic Engineering Bureau, Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Quetta, Assistant Commissioner (Political) Syed Kaleemullah, and representatives from other relevant departments attended the session.
During the briefing, officials informed the Commissioner that multiple initiatives are ongoing to streamline traffic flow across the provincial capital. These include management of peak-hour congestion, expansion of the Green Bus Route, restrictions on Chingchi rickshaws, and action against unregistered and illegal rickshaws.
Authorities reported that a new policy for rickshaw regulation is being developed to make the traffic system more efficient. The Green Bus Route is planned to be extended from Kuchlak Police Station to Sona Khan Police Station,  Sariab Road.
As part of modernization efforts, surveillance cameras have been installed at 45 key locations across Quetta. These will be activated under a pilot project aimed at enhancing real-time monitoring and traffic control.
The meeting also reviewed measures restricting the entry of rickshaws and Chingchi vehicles into the Central Business District (CBD) to reduce congestion.
Commissioner Kakar instructed concerned departments to devise a clear operational framework for the pilot traffic project. He directed them to consider zone-wise identification systems using special stickers or color coding. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan for peak-hour traffic and ordered continued strict action against encroachments.
He added that policies governing entry of electric rickshaws into the CBD and facilitating citizens’ access to designated bus terminals would significantly improve public transport convenience.
“Ensuring smooth traffic flow and citizen convenience is the government’s top priority. All departments must expedite their efforts,” the Commissioner said.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar also reviewed progress on shifting dairy farms out of Quetta’s residential and commercial areas. Officials from the Dairy Farm Association, Livestock Department, Quetta Development Authority (QDA), and other agencies participated.
The meeting assessed steps taken so far and decided that QDA and the relevant association will jointly identify suitable locations outside the city. A formal report is to be submitted within one week.

Punjab govt. launches deworming campaign in Attock to protect children’s health

ATTOCK, Dec 1 (APP): Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Attock, Anil Saeed, has said on Monday that ensuring children’s health and safety is one of the top priorities of the Punjab government.
According to APP correspondent, the campaign will be held on December 3, 2025, while on December 4 the medicine will be administered to children who remain absent or miss the dose on the first day, in this regard, a comprehensive deworming campaign is being launched across the district to protect children from intestinal worms and provide them with a healthier future.
He said that healthy children are the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation.
CEO Education Dr. Muhammad Azhar, DEO Elementary (Women) Shehwar Gul, DEO Elementary (Men) Syed Taqi Abbas, DEO Secondary Altaf Hussain, District Manager Malik Naseer Khan, teachers, and other relevant officials were also present.
During the briefing, it was informed that under the campaign, children aged 5 to 14 years studying in all public and private educational institutions across the district will be given safe medication to prevent intestinal worms.
It was further stated that the World Health Organization (WHO) has provided the medicine free of cost, which meets international standards and is entirely safe and tested. The aim of this campaign is to eliminate intestinal parasites that hinder physical growth and cause various health issues among children.
Anil Saeed said that approximately 390,000 children in district Attock will be administered the deworming medicine, and that the Education Department, Health Department, and District Administration are working in complete coordination.
He urged parents and teachers to play their full role in making the campaign successful by ensuring that every child receives the medicine.
In the end, Anil declared the campaign arrangements satisfactory and appreciated the efforts of the teams deployed for the task.

FUUAST signs MoU with ABM to strengthen student support in Biorisk Management

ISLAMABAD, Dec 01 (APP):The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) Islamabad, in collaboration with the Association for Biorisk Management (ABM), on Monday organised a workshop titled “Biosecurity, Biorisk Management and Professional Responsibility in Partnership” aimed at enhancing research capacity in modern biosciences.
On the occasion, FUUAST and ABM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which ABM will offer scholarships to students and support research and academic initiatives related to biological safety.
The workshop was chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari and attended by ABM CEO Dr Asghar Ali, Board Member Dr Javed Khan, faculty members, heads of departments and students.
In his address, Dr Shinwari said biosecurity has emerged as a major global concern and underscored the need for universities to stay updated on evolving biological threats.
He added that the university, through its Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), is actively working to strengthen research in modern biosciences.
He noted that as professionals and also as Muslims, it is important to fulfill responsibilities with integrity and stay aware of global developments, including biological risks.
Dr Javed Khan praised the leadership and vision of the Vice Chancellor and urged students to build expertise in modern scientific disciplines.
ABM CEO Dr. Asghar Ali highlighted the organisation’s collaborations with several universities across Pakistan on biosecurity research and capacity-building initiatives.
The event concluded with an interactive session in which guest speakers responded to students’ questions. Faculty members expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for organising a comprehensive workshop on this emerging area of study.

NMU launches “Green, Clean Drive,” VC highlights vision for an eco-friendly campus

MULTAN, Dec 01 (APP):Nishtar Medical University and Hospital has intensified its “Nishtar Green & Clean Drive,” with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani conducting a detailed inspection of newly developed green zones and ongoing plantation work across the campus.
Dr. Khakwani visited several gardens, including the Nishtar Rose Garden, Gogi Garden, the green belt around MK Pasha Hall, the fruit orchard and the Miyawaki Garden. She reviewed plantation efforts, landscaping, and maintenance arrangements already underway.

KP assembly approves resolution to declare Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a national martyr

PESHAWAR, Dec 01 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday passed a resolution to officially declare former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a “National Martyr.”
The resolution was tabled by Ahmad Kundi, the Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The resolution pays tribute to Bhutto’s significant contributions to the political, democratic and national landscape of Pakistan.
It acknowledges that he laid the groundwork for a strong, democratic, and people-centric nation. His efforts, the resolution states, represent a lasting and shining chapter in the country’s history.
Furthermore, the resolution calls for the proposal to be forwarded to the federal government for formal consideration.
