Final decision on Panama probe commission after consultation with political parties: PML-N meeting

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): A high level meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Monday decided to take the parliamentary leaders of the political parties into confidence on the formation and other relevant matters vis-a-vis the proposed inquiry commission into Panama leaks before taking any final decision.

On directives of Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the meeting was held here at the PM House under the chair of Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, said a press release.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Law Minister Zahid Hamid, Minister for SAFRON Abdul Qadir Baloch, Adviser to PM Irfan Siddiqui, Senator Mushahidullah and Minister of State for IT Anusha Rehman attended the meeting that discussed the inquiry commission and its mandate.

US Senate delegation calls on COAS

ISLAMABAD, April 18 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif Monday visited Shawal and reviewed progress of last phase  of operation in Shawal.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS spent whole day with troops, busy in eliminating terrorists from their last bastion, close to Pak-Afghan Border.

COAS was briefed in detail by formation commander about operational gains so far. COAS was apprised that since start of  last phase in February 2016, in treacherous terrain of Shawal, more than 800 sq KM of area has been secured inflicting heavy casualties on terrorists.

61% Cotton, 70% paddy seed available for upcoming Kharif Season

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): As much as 24,501 metric tons of cotton seed will be available for sowing during the upcoming Kharif season (2016-17), which is about 61 percent of the total seed requirements of the country.

The availability of quality cotton seed in Punjab stands at 20,537 metric tons, 66 percent of total seed requirements in the provinces, according to the official figures.

The seed availability in Sind would be about 3950 metric tons, which would cater to the 48 percent demand for the seed in the provinces. Similarly, the 15 metric tons of cotton seed will be available in Khyber Pakhtunkha which is 29 percent of the requirements of the province, the official data revealed.

Pakistan, Mauritius to further strengthen bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): Pakistan and Mauritius enjoy close and cordial relations and both sides would explore possibilities of further strengthening existing bilateral ties in various fields.

This was stated by analysts while talking in Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs’ program.

They said that Pakistan and Mauritius enjoyed close and cordial relations, which were based on mutual identity of views on regional and global issues.

GILGIT, April 18 (APP): Pakistan Muslim league (N) has won four out of six seats in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Council election held here on Monday.

On another seat an independent candidate Syed Afzal won with the support of Muslim league (N). Pakistan Islamic Tehreek won the remaining seat.

Chief Minister Gb Hafeez Urehman congratulated the winning candidates.

DISCOs recovers Rs 52 bln in last year : Senate told

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): Federal Minister for Water and Power
Khawaja Asif on Monday informed that all power distribution companies
(DISCOs) recovered additional Rs 52 billion during the last year.

Speaking on the resolution moved by Senator Tahir Hussian  Mashhadi that government should take steps to discontinue the facility of provision of free of charge electricity to the employees of WAPDA, he said  that recovery was 5 percent of total losses in last year.

He said that things were getting better and now zero load-shedding
was being observed in industrial sector, adding it would be completely
overpowered in 2018.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday said Pakistan will perform its due role at international fora on issues of climate change.

He was talking to a 4-member delegation of International  Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) led by its  Director General, David Molden which called on him.

The minister said government was according due importance  to environmental protection and climate change issues.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP): The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) termed the decision of appointing Haroon Akhtar Khan as Special Assistant on Revenue to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a good step in the right direction.

The appointment of Haroon Akhtar Khan has proved to be a right decision as he has initiated meaningful steps in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), said Abdul Rauf Alam, President FPCCI.

He said Khan has not only improved working of the Apex tax body but has also been taking business community on board in the major decisions which has infused confidence among investors, according to FPCCI statement.

Dr Zabta Shinwari truly deserves COMEST membership which is granted by Director General UNESCO for four years tenure (2016 – 2019) of its next commission.

Stalled North bound section of Liyari Expressway to be completed next year

ISLAMABAD, April 18 (APP): After approval of Revised PC-1 for Lyari Expressway, construction work of the project has been restarted on North Bound section of Lyari Expressway.

An official of the National Highway Authority (NHA) told APP Monday that the project will be completed next year.

He said that work on the project was stalled for many reasons since 2008. There were numerous reasons such as grant of the right of way and unavailability of required funds that delayed the project, he said.
