ICIJ Director’s refusal, negates its own stance over Panama Papers: Daniyal

ISLAMABAD, Apr 30 (APP): Pakistan Muslim League-N Member of National Assembly Daniyal Aziz has said that Director of International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Gerard Ryle’s refusal to appear in a private TV channel programme, clearly negated ICIJ’s stance over the Panama Papers Leaks, erroneously mentioning the name of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He reaffirmed that it was correct that ICIJ had deleted the name of Nawaz Sharif as it was a factual error which also justified the stance, taken by the government.

The ICIJ Director had refused to appear on a Pakistani news channel, seemingly as he could not defend the basic errors earlier posted at the ICIJ’s website about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif concerning Panama Leaks.

WASHINGTON, April 30 (APP): A US State Department spokesman said on Friday that F 16s fighter aircraft were the right platform to support Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts and US security assistance contributes to a stable region.

At a weekly briefing, Spokesman Mark Toner, while responding to a
question that Pakistan was trying to make efforts to fight against the terror groups that threatens all Pakistanis.

“We believe the F 16s they’re the right platform to support
Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, and have been a part of the successful pushback,” the spokesman said. “We do believe that F 16s are helpful”.

UN chief welcomes first ever Olympic refugee team to compete in Games

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 30 (APP): United Nations Secretary General Ban
Ki moon welcomed the first ever Olympic refugee team to compete in the international event, and received the Olympic Cup Award on behalf of the UN.

“This year, the International Olympic Committee has taken the
extraordinary step of including a refugee team,” Ban announced at an event in Geneva, where he was on a visit, entitled “Celebrating the Olympic Spirit” ahead of the Rio games which begin in August.

“For the first time in history, talented athletes who have been forced
to flee their homes will get a chance to chase gold. Their fellow refugees will see outstanding contenders who give hope to all. And the world will see refugees the way they deserve to be seen: as talented, strong and inspiring people,” he declared.

President for recommendations to boost Pharmaceutical exports

ISLAMABAD April 29 ( APP) : President Mamnoon Hussain expressing dissatisfaction at the prevailing volume of pharmaceutical exports on Friday sought recommendations to boost it.

The President asked the Ministry of National Health Services and Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA) to
immediately submit cogent recommendations to boost pharmaceutical exports to realize its full potential.

The President said this while chairing a presentation by the
representatives of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association here at the Aiwan e Sadr.

Govt’s vision of governance based on transparency: PM

ISLAMABAD, April 29 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif on Friday said that the government’s vision of
governance was based on transparency and efficiency and there would be no compromise on both these components.

The Prime Minister expressed these views during a
meeting with Minister of State for Communication, Abdul Hakeem Baloch, who called on him here at the PM House.

The status of ongoing as well as future development
projects across the country were discussed in detail during the meeting.

SECP to facilitate information sharing mechanism for health insurance sector

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP): The Securities and Exchange
Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is contemplating expanding the
scope of Centralized Information Sharing Solution for Life Insurance Industry (CISSII) to include the register for the group health insurance claims experience.

In this regard, the SECP has solicited the comments and
suggestions of the life and non life insurance companies so as to finalize the extent and frequency of the information which will be shared on the health register.

Currently, there is no information sharing mechanism for
group health insurance claims because of which, insurers have difficulty in making pricing and underwriting decisions in respect of group health insurance business.

PM takes notice of price hike of pulses

Friday took notice of increase in prices of pulses and showed
displeasure over it.

According to a PM House statement, the Prime Minister ordered
to immediately withdraw the notification of the enhancement of the
prices.

He said that prices of the essential commodities at Utility
Stores should not be increased without his approval.

Opposition not united regarding ToRs: Irfan

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on National
History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui Friday said that opposition
parties were not united regarding their Terms of Reference (ToRs) for judicial commission on Panama Papers.

If opposition parties would present their ToRs, the government was
ready to review them to carry out more transparent inquiry on Panama reports, he said while talking to a news channel.

Irfan Siddiqui said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was enjoying one third majority in the parliament, adding that his name was not mentioned in Panama Papers.

Nisar directs NADRA to improve facilities for overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD, April 29 (APP): Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar
Ali Khan has directed the National Database and Registration
Authority (NADRA) and passport officials to bring further improvement in the facilities being provided to the overseas Pakistanis.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that he had
received complaints during his recent visit abroad from overseas Pakistanis regarding bio metric and registration system, which should be addressed immediately.

Chaudhry Nisar said that overseas Pakistanis were an asset of the
country adding that all available resources should be utilized for providing them better facilities.
