ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain, Monday paid glowing tribute to outgoing Army Chief General Raheel Sharif for his services in curbing the menace of extremism and terrorism through operation Zarb-e-Azb and restoration of law and order across the country.

The President stated this while talking to Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif who paid a farewell call on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Mamnoon Hussain eulogized the professionalism and preparedness of Pakistan Army and said the country’s defence was in
safe and capable hands.

He said the professional and leadership qualities of General Raheel Sharif as Chief of the Army Staff would always be remembered.
President Mamnoon Hussain expressed his good wishes for General Raheel and his family members in their future life.

General Raheel Sharif thanked the President for his guidance and support in discharge of his official responsibilities.

Gen Zubair takes over as CJCSC

RAWALPINDI, Nov 28 (APP): General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Monday took over as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Upon arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters Chaklala, the newly appointed CJCSC was presented guard of honor by the contingent of tri-services.

Outgoing chairman General Rashad Mehmood handed over the command to General Zubair at a ceremony attended by newly appointed Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and heads of three services of the Armed Forces.

Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat was commissioned in Artillery Regiment on October 24, 1980.

He is graduate of Fort Sill Oklohoma, USA, Command and Staff College
Camberlay United Kingdom and National Defence University, Islamabad.

He has wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded an artillery regiment, mechanized division artillery, an infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division.

Gen Zubair has been Adjutant at PMA, Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Army and Air adviser at Pakistan embassy in the United Kingdom.

He has also been Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps, Private Secretary to the COAS and Director General Staff Studies Directorate at GHQ.

He has also held the appointment of Director General Strategic Plan Division (SPD). He has commanded 31 Corps Bahawalpur and was Chief of the General Staff at GHQ before appointment as CJCSC.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Outgoing Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here at the PM House.

“The Prime Minister praised General Raheel Sharif for his valuable services rendered as Army Chief and extended his best wishes for his post retirement life and happiness for his family,” a PM’s Office statement said here Monday.

‘Iranian Cultural Link Passage’ to be inaugurated on Dec 2

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): A re-designed Iranian Cultural Link Passage would be inaugurated at Heritage Museum, Lok Virsa on December 2.

The Iranian link passage was created at the time of establishment of Heritage Museum, which has now been redesigned, renovated and improved by the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with Lok Virsa.

Senior government officials and ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi-e-Honar Doost likely to attend the event. It displays arts, crafts and other material relating to culture of Iran.

The special features of the event include ribbon cutting ceremony, presentation of Kalam-e-Iqbal, Rabab performance and mystic songs.

Famous writer Bano Qudsia turns 88

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Famous writer and playwright, Bano Qudsia turned 88 on Monday.

She was born Qudsia Chattha on November 28 in 1928 in Ferozpur, East Punjab. She adopted pen name of Bano Qudsia.

She writes Urdu novels and short stories and she is best known for her novel “Raja Gidh” and has written for television and stage in both the Urdu and Punjabi languages. Her play “Aadhi Baat” has been called a classic.

Her books and teleplays include Adhi Baat, Aik Din, Amr Bail, Assey Passey, Bazgasht, Chahar Chaman, Chota Shehr, Bary Log, Dast Basta, Dosra Darwaza, Dusra Qadam, Foot Path Ki Ghaas, Haasil Ghaat, Hawwa Key Naam, Hijraton ke Darmiyan, Kuch Aur Nahi, Lagan Apni Apni, Marde Abresham, Maum Ki Gallian, Naqabal e Zikr, Piya Naam Ka Diya, Purwa, Purwa and Aik Din, Raja Gidh, Saman-e-Wajood, Shehr-e-bemisaal, Shehr-e-Lazawal Abaad Weerany, Sudhraan, Suraj Mukhi, Tamaseel, Tawjha Ki Talib, Rahe Rawan and Phir Achanak Yuh Hua.

RAWALPINDI Nov 28 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, on Monday said it was a matter of great pride for him to have commanded the most battle hardened Army in the world for three years.

Chairing the farewell Corps Commanders conference held here at the General Headquarters, the COAS appreciated the commanders for their cooperation during his tenure and said the successes achieved during his tenure would not have been possible without contribution by each one of them.

General Raheel congratulated General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff designate, for his elevation to the rank of General and appointment as COAS.

During the meeting, as reported by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the corps commanders paid rich tributes to General Raheel Sharif for his leadership and professional acumen and lauded his services for the country.

FPCCI urges ECO members to strengthen economic alliances

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Monday said the world countries have abandoned forging political and military alliances, preferring economic alliances to promote growth and development.

“The economic blocks that prefer trade over politics have progressed with an amazing speed, President FPCCI, Rauf Alam while speaking at the ECO Day at FPCCI Capital House here said.

He called upon the ambassadors of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to push their governments for quick trade facilitation measures.

He urged for removal of distortions and doubts, creation of an encouraging environment for foreign investors, initiation market-oriented reforms and promotion of outward development strategies which will open opportunities for unlimited prosperity.

The ECO countries have great trade potential which needed to be exploited for the better interest of the member countries.

He said efforts would be made to make this block vibrant and urged the governments of member countries to play their role for the sake of rapid development and help reduce poverty and conflicts.

“The importance of this block has increased manifold in the current set of circumstances,” he added.

He said the group could become effective if the issues pertaining to transport and security issues are resolved.

Ambassadors and diplomats of ECO countries, senior leader of United Business Group, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, VP FPCCI Zafar Bakhtwari, Chief Coordinator FPCCI Malik Sohail and others were also present on the occasion.

Rauf Alam said, over seven percent of the global population lives in ECO countries covering an area of eight million square kilometer and a combined GDP of almost two trillion dollars and 436 million population but it is not united despite common cultural and religious heritage.

He said, the grouping consists of countries which are least connected while bilateral trade is hardly seven percent, therefore all the countries should shun differences and join hands to fulfil shared aim of prosperity.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong Monday expressed his heartfelt felicitations to the appointments of General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) respectively.

The Chinese ambassador sincerely wished General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and General Qamar Javed Bajwa success and looked forward to greater development of the cordial relations between the two countries and two militaries between China and Pakistan during their tenure, a press release of Chinese embassy issued here said.

Ambassador Sun Weidong also expressed congratulations to the outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on his achievements and contribution to peace, stability and development of Pakistan during his tenure.

The ambassador highly appreciated the great importance attached and valuable contribution rendered by General Raheel Sharif to the promotion of the friendship and cooperation between two countries and militaries.

Change of command ceremony on Tuesday

RAWALPINDI, Nov 28 (APP): The change of command of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) ceremony will be held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) here on Tuesday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), newly appointed COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa will take over the command from General Raheel Sharif at change of command ceremony.

General Raheel Sharif would hand over the command to General Bajwa on completion of three years tenure as COAS.
