PAF wins Kabaddi Championship

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): Pakistan Air Force (PAF) clinched the 1st Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Kabaddi Championship on Saturday played here at the Jinnah Stadium of the Pakistan Sports Complex.

PAF beat Wapda in the final with the match score of 48-36 to win the Championship. Air Marshal Asad Lodhi, Vice Chief of the Air Staff, PAF was the Chief Guest on the occasion and awarded trophies and prizes among the winner and runner-up of the tournament.

Lala Ubaidullah and Waqas Jutt were declared best Raider while Waqas Rahim Gujjar was adjudged the best defender of the Championship.

As many as 12 teams from all over Pakistan participated in the event.

The teams included Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, KPK, Islamabad, SNGPL, Police, Railway, Wapda, Pakistan Army, PAF and HEC.

This is the first time that PAF had organized the national level Kabaddi Championship.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): The 2nd Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Tennis
Championship going to start from Sunday will be played at Islamabad Tennis Courts.

Senator Farhatullah Babar will be the chief guest on the opening ceremony and will inaugurate the championship.

According to a press release issued here, Chief Organizer, Fazal Subhan said that all arrangements of the event has been finalized.

He said as many as 250 players including 16 women players will be participating in the championship.

Four competitions including Under-10, Under-14 and Under-18, Boys and Girls singles and doubles will be held in the champion ship.

The concluding ceremony of the championship will be held on December 11. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah will be the chief guest and will give away prizes to the players.

Pak HC, Tim Cole discuss bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Syed Ibne Abbas and British envoy to the Commonwealth Tim Cole discussed the UK-Pakistan ties, cooperation between the two countries at Commonwealth and other multilateral fora.

They shared the views based on common language, common law as well as shared history and culture, the Commonwealth provided a valuable forum for the member countries for socio-economic and trade and development cooperation.

The High Commissioner felicitated Tim Cole on assuming the new office and assured him of all possible support.

The UK envoy called on the Pakistan High Commissioner in his office, said a message received here Saturday.

Ibne Abbas said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with the Commonwealth and reiterated its commitment to further strengthening the organization and promoting its objectives and core values.

The two sides agreed that there was a need to make the Commonwealth more effective through much needed reforms.

The future role of in the wake of Brexit, came under discussion.
Deliberations were made on how the Commonwealth trade advantage could be used to enhance trade among the member countries.

The two sides agreed to continue working closely to promote the objectives of Commonwealth.

The Envoy shared that the UK government was planning to hold the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), in the UK in 2018.

The High Commissioner said Pakistan looked forward to participating in the meeting.

Cole appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role within the organization.

Puppet show enthralls children at PNCA

PNCA stages drama on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Saturday organized a puppet show which enthralled children at PNCA auditorium.

The puppet show is a regular feature of the council presented by National Puppet Theater (NPT).

With the movement of puppets, the show depicted folk tales and skits to entertain and educate children regarding social problems including health, education, environment etc.

Besides entertainment, these puppet shows are a conscious efforts to explain socio-cultural issues and nurture a sense of responsibility among children to combat such evils.

A large number of students from various educational institutions attended the show.

Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed and a large number of film fans, besides people from twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi attended the screening of film.

Film Goodbye Mr. Chips is a 1969 American musical film directed by Herbert Ross.

The screenplay by Terence Rattigan is based on James Hilton’s 1934 novel Goodbye Mr. Chips, which was first adapted for the screen in 1939.

PESHAWAR, Dec 3 (APP): The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that modern medicine thrives on research and exchange of ideas among professionals for their useful application aimed at welfare of the people.

This he said while addressing the Annual Conference of the Pakistan Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons arranged by Rehman Medical Institute here at a local hotel, Peshawar on Saturday. Besides, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rehman, Maj. Gen. ® Asif Ali Khan, Specialists, Doctors, Nurses and Medical students in large number also attended the conference.

While addressing the participants of the conference the Governor said that such conferences go a long way in improving the quality of medical care and can give birth to ideas that, in the future, may revolutionize the way a patient can be helped.

He also hoped that the exchange of ideas and sharing of experience by professionals from different hospitals and other institutions will go a long way in understanding the challenges and finding solutions.

Later on, the Governor also gave away shields to the best cardiac surgeons; the Governor also visited and inspected the medical equipment and medicine stalls.

Govt working to ensure quality production of SMEs: Rana Tanveer

LAHORE, Dec 3 (APP): Federal Minister for Science, Technology and Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said the government is working to ensure quality and standard of all products manufactured at medium and small level enterprises.

Talking to the media at a launching ceremony of Certification Incentive Programme for SMEs Under PQI (Productivity, Quality and Innovation) initiatives organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology at a local hotel on Saturday, he said initially an amount of Rs 750 million had been allocated for the project of certification of the SMEs, however, more amount would be approved for the project later.

He said only fiver per cent of the SMEs were certified in any level by the authorities and rest of the SMEs were working without any certification of quality and standard.

The minister said different fee would be charged from the SMEs on certification according to the certificates.

To a question, he said it was priority of the government to resolve issues with the neighbouring countries, including India, through dialogues.

Regarding situation on the Line of Control, the minister said Pakistani forces were ready to respond strictly if enemy chose the confrontation.

He said Pakistan had achieved several successes during the last three and half years and victory in several by-polls and local bodies election proved popularity of the PML-N government.

To a question about the statements of PTI leaders, he said the “Dharna Party” leaders looked worried as they had failed in their designs against the government and development of the country.

On the issue of Panama Leaks, he said it was a baseless issue and the PTI wanted to pull the case in the court till the next elections to get benefits from it but the PTI would not be able to prove any allegations in the court.

Earlier, in his address, the minister said the government wanted quality certification of 100 per cent of the SMEs,adding that merit and transparency would be ensured in the process of certification.

He said it was imperative that a sound certification system for the recognition of credible products and services should be put in place to enhance credibility to compete the world market.

“These objectives can only be achieved through implementation of globally accepted norms and standards of productivity, quality and innovation,” he added.

Project Manager Shaheen Raja gave a briefing about the project while Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) President Abdul Basit and Chairman PCSIR Iftekhar Alam also addressed the ceremony.

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 3 (APP): State Minister for Education and Professional Training Engineer Balighur Rehman on Saturday said the government had enhanced job quota from two percent to three percent for special persons in jobs ranging from grade-1 to grade-4.

The step was taken to offer maximum jobs to special persons, he said this while addressing a ceremony at Degree College for Special Persons here.

The minister said job quota from grade-5 to grade 15 would be announced very soon.

About Khidmat Cards, he said the district administration had received 3,600 applications during first phase, however, during second phase, they received 17,000 applications which were being scrutinized. The persons who were registered during first phase, were receiving financial assistance, he added.

He said the remaining persons of second phase would start availing financial assistance soon. He stated the government had established degree college for special persons here.

The services of two literate special persons had been hired for Victoria Hospital with an objective to facilitate under treatment special persons, the minister said and added that these two special persons would serve as bridge between doctors and patients.

He said, “We have also waived off fees of special persons in Islamia University besides provision of scholarships and pick and drop facility free of cost”.

The minister said the government was committed to end electricity crisis till 2017.

CHINIOT, Dec 3 (APP): State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Saturday inaugurated a grid station of 132-KV in Chenab Nagar.

Addressing a gathering, he said another project, 220-KV Lalian grid station, would also start functioning in the next year.

Abid Sher said the government had started a number of power projects which would help overcome energy shortage till 2018. He added that not a single unit was added to the national grid by the previous governments.

The minister said the government had connected provinces with motorways which would raise living standard of the people besides providing them with basic facilities of life.

The minister said the PML-N government would win the next general elections due to its people-welfare polices.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan was creating hindrances in the way of progress and prosperity of the country.

Pakistan enjoying strong relations with China: Tanveer

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on Saturday said Pakistan had been enjoying deep and strong relations with China.

China was a time tested friend of Pakistan as both’s friendship was deeper than ocean and higher than Himalaya, he said talking to Samaa TV programme ‘Agenda 360’.

The minister said China has been investing $ 46 billion in a shape of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, it would bring economic revolution in the country.

He said India was trying to sabotage the CPEC project but it will fail in do so.

He said Pakistan has very important geo strategic position in the region.

Replying to a question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has no evidence regarding Panama Papers case.
