Work resumes on Tarbela 4th Extension project

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): Construction work on the 1410 MW-Tarbela
4th Extension Hydropower Project was resumed after removing the debris from the accident site on Sunday.

According to a WAPDA spokesman, four persons, including two Chinese
nationals, lost their lives when the scaffolding for concrete work at Tarbela Dam collapsed on Saturday night.

WAPDA has been carrying out construction work round-the-clock
under accelerated programme to complete the 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project.

As concrete pouring was going on at the site last night, the scaffolding for concrete work downstream of Unit No. 17 collapsed at about 11.

Four persons, including two Chinese, were also injured, who were taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Tarbela.

31 missing, 20 injured due to Chitral flash floods: NDMA

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): As many as 31 persons were missing/
dead and 20 injured as a result of flash floods in district
Chitral last night, said National Disaster Management Authority
(NDMA).

Bad weather was hampering relief activities.

According to latest figures released by NDMA, 07 houses and one
mosque have fully been damaged owing to flash floods in Pai Tasun
Gole and Muju Gole areas of Tehsil Darosh, District Chitral.

NDMA was in touch with Provincial Disaster Management
Authority and Distt Administration regarding relief activities.

PESHAWAR, July 3 (APP): At least 30 people including children and women were drowned and 50 other injured when they were hit by gushing water

waves of a flash flood in Arsoon Tehsil of Chitral on Sunday.
The water also washed away a mosque where faithful were busy in
worship while a check post manned by security personnel also vanished. The civilian victims also included six members of an ill fated family.

Rescue activities have been started however, according to district administration difficulties have been increased due to blockage of routes
by flooding water.

Five including three Chinese engineers killed at Tarbela

SWABI, July 3 (APP): Five persons including three Chinese engineers
were killed and fifteen other injured when a construction structure of a power house extension project was collapsed here on Saturday midnight.

According to details, a structure erected for the extension of new
power house at Tarbela collapsed entrapping and killing three Chinese and two Pakistani engineers. Fifteen others including a site engineer also sustained injuries in the incident who were admitted in hospitals of Tarbela, Swabi and Topi for emergency treatment.

The killed Pakistani engineers were identified as Abdul Qadeer and Shahid Raza Khan. Rescue activities were still in progress.

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): Minister of State for Water and Power
Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali Sunday visited Tarbella Dam to investigate
accident which occurred on Saturday night at Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project.

The incident happened while placement of concrete which caused collapsing of formwork where eight workers, including four Chinese and
four Pakistani, were present, said a press release.

The rescue operation was carried immediately which lasted till midnight. Two Chinese and two Pakistani workers died on the spot.

The injured were shifted to hospital and are being looked after properly. Two Chinese workers, who were still in critical condition, were shifted to Islamabad. The condition of two Pakistanis injured was stable.

PM Advisor grieves over loss of lives in Chitral flood

PESHAWAR, July 3 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister, Engineer Ameer Muqam has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in flood that hit Arsoon village of Chitral on Sunday.

In a message, he assured cooperation of government in mitigating sufferings of victims and directed for providing best available assistance to them. He said we would not leave the victims alone in this hour of need.

He also prayed for the eternal peace of departed souls and early recovery of the injured.

Shehbaz inaugurates 60-bed hospital in Raiwind

LAHORE, July 3 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad
Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday inaugurated 60-bed Tehsil Headquarters
Hospital in Raiwind.

He went to different wards and reviewed medical facilities being provided in the hospital. He expressed satisfaction over the facilities being extended to the patients in the hospital and praised construction work of the building.

The Chief Minister visited various wards including emergency ward. He also went to X-ray room, ultrasound room and laboratory. He also inspected dental clinic and directed the doctors to wear gown during duty.

He directed concerned authorities to digitalize the hospital and run on the model of Indus Hospital besides all its record should be computerized.

Shehbaz Sharif directed to provide transport facility immediately to the staff and nurses coming from far away.

He also talked to doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and sanitation staff and said that they were associated with a noble profession and it was the demand of this profession that they should work hard for the treatment of patients.

Talking to the sanitation staff, Shehbaz Sharif said, “Cleanliness is half faith therefore it is their duty to improve cleanliness arrangements in the hospital to provide hygienic environment to the patients.”

Addressing inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister said that 60-bed modern hospital had been handed over to the citizens in Raiwind as a gift.

Three demands were presented during election campaign in 2013 and the promise of construction of hospital had been fulfilled, he added.

He said that now the citizens would not have to go to Lahore or any other big hospital. He said that modern facilities had been made available in this hospital and he would personally review the performance of the hospital regularly.

He said that second demand was of flyover, upon which, work would be started during the current month and it would be completed on August 14 next year.

The Chief Minister thanked Secretary Communications and Works, NESPAK, administration and concerned departments on completing the quality construction work of the hospital and congratulated them.

Shehbaz Sharif said that if doctors and other staff of this hospital were ready to accept challenge of running the hospital on the pattern of Agha Khan Hospital or Indus Hospital then he was ready to provide all out resources but it would not be operated like common government hospital.

He said that a modern model had been prepared in this regard under which Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Muzaffargarh and Shehbaz Sharif Hospital Bedian Road were operated and these were run by Indus.

If doctors of THQ Hospital Raiwind were ready to accept challenge and provide treatment facilities personally to the patients then he was also with them and bonus would be given to them otherwise the model of Muzaffargarh and Bedian Road Hospitals would be adopted in this hospital.

This model will be enforced on August 14, 2016, he added.

He said that there were often complaints regarding attendance of doctors in government hospitals but there was no such complaint in two hospitals given to the Indus.

Shehbaz Sharif said that he would not rest content until the last hospital was set right. He said that elite enjoyed the facilities of education and treatment in the country but the children of common man were deprived of these facilities.

Shehbaz Sharif said that some opponents who kept the nation in darkness for 15 years, looted billions of rupees of the nation and wanted to indulge in the politics of protest after Eid.

He said that people still remembered the sit-ins of 2014 when the visit of Chinese President was postponed due to these sit-ins in December 2014 and he came to Pakistan in April 2015 and signed agreements of billions of dollars with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He said that immediate after these agreements, work was started speedily on power plants. He said that work carried out on 1320 megawatt coal power plant Sahiwal, coal power plant Port Qasim and solar project Bahawalpur was unprecedented in the history of the country.

He said that thousands of megawatt electricity would be generated next year and darkness would be eliminated in Pakistan.

He said that Rs 112 billion of the nation had been saved only in 3600 megawatt gas based projects adding that no one had even saved Rs 12 so far.

He said that people would not allow these elements to succeed in their nefarious designs.

The Chief Minister said he was giving the message to the people that future of Pakistan was bright and journey to progress and prosperity was continuing speedily. He said that various power plants would start generating energy in 2017.

He said that 1320-megawatt Sahiwal coal power plant would
be completed 6 months earlier in June 2017 instead of December
2017.

He appealed to the people to become united for saving Pakistan and only due to the force of unity, all conspiracies of opponents would be foiled.

Shehbaz Sharif said that those demanding resignation from
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif should first peep into
their conscience and first hold their own accountability.

He said that it was very easy to talk while sitting in air-conditioned rooms adding that opponents were perturbed over the development of the country and people would again foil the conspiracy of sit-ins.

He said that those who looted billions of rupees of the nation were talking about accountability. He said that those who committed corruption in the country would be held accountable.

Shehbaz Sharif said that with the blessings of Allah Almighty and prayers of the nation, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was recovering and would return to the country soon.

Air Marshal Lodhi appointed as Vice Chief of PAF

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): The government has appointed Air Marshal
Asad Abdur Rehman Khan Lodhi as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan
Air Force (PAF), a PAF press release said on Sunday.

Air Marshal Lodhi was commissioned in GD (P) Branch of PAF in March, 1982. He is a qualified Flying Instructor and during his illustrious
career, he has commanded a Fighter Squadron, an Operational Air Base and a Regional Air Command.

In his staff appointments, he served as Director Strategic Operations, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operation, Research and Development), Director General at Ministry of Defence Production and Director General Projects at Air Headquarters Islamabad.

He has also served as Defence Attach‚ to Japan.

He is a graduate of Combat Commanders’ School, Air War College and National Defence University. He holds Master’s degrees in Strategic
Studies and Defence & Strategic Studies.

Presently, he is serving as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Support)
at Air Headquarters Islamabad.

In recognition of his meritorious services, he has been awarded with Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Rich tribute paid to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): U.S. Embassy Acting Deputy Chief of
Mission Jeffrey Sexton paid rich tribute to legendary figure of the
world Muhammad Ali for his commence contribution for maintaining law
and order situation and creating peace in the world.

He was speaking at the condolence reference in the memory of
‘Muhammad Ali a boxing icon of international renown and global
Goodwill Ambassador’ here at Preston University.

Jeffrey Said,” Today we take a moment to pause and remember
someone who was at once a great American, a true citizen of the
world, and a long time friend of Pakistan”.

“The United States mourns the loss of one of its most iconic
athletes; we honor his legend, and pay tribute to “The Champ”. We
are profoundly grateful for the heart felt condolence from friends
around the world” he said.

He quoted President Barack Obama,who said that, “He was
Muhammad Ali, a whole greater than the sum of its parts. He was
bigger, brighter, more original and influential than just about
anyone of his era. He had fans in every city and village and ghetto
on the planet; he was feted by foreign heads of state; the beatles’
British invasion took a detour to come to him. It seemed sometimes
that the Champ was too big for America”.

Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi, Chairman Archaeological & Historical
Association of Pakistan, said “This is the only condolence Reference
of distinguished personality of the world and Pakistan.All the human
being and particularly Pakistani people love him so much. He said he
was a universal person and a good friend of Pakistan.”

Mehdi said on Muhammad Ali’s death Prime Minister Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif said,”the death of Muhammad Ali is a great loss of
Muslim World”.

He said that he will move a proposal to Prime Minister to
rename sports complex as ‘Muhammad ali Sports Complex’.
Muhammad Ali had traveled twice to Pakistan in the late 1980s,
once as a special guest to the south Asian Games in Islamabad and
again on visit to Data Darbar in Lahore.

Another speaking Dr. Allah Wadhayo Baloch, Registrar Preston
University said,” The memorial of Muhammad Ali should be established
in Pakistan.

He said that International community should patronize
institution of Sufism established by Archaeological & Historical
department.

Zafar Bakhtawari,Chairman of D Watson Group of Pharmacies
said, “He was a great man of 20th century.He rise the voice for the
people who were deprived of human rights.He influenced the whole
world by his dynamic personality.He will be remained in the history of
mankind.He was known for his strong believe.

He told that, Ali believed that Islam is a religion of Peace
not extremism. Muhammad Ali dedicated himself to helping others.
After retiring from boxing in 1981, Ali devoted his life to
religious and charitable work.

Muhammad Ali defeated every top heavyweight in his era, which
has been called the golden age of heavyweight boxing. Ali was named
“Fighter of the Year” by Ring Magazine more times than any other
fighter,he said. Ali showed at an early age that he wasn’t afraid of
any bout inside or outside of the ring.

“Ali was the first fighter to win the world heavyweight
championship on three separate occasions; he successfully defended
this title 19 times. Ali won 10 fights in a row, 8 of them against
world class opponents. He remained in the ring for 21 years, he
added.

Central Ruet e Hilal Committee to meet on Tuesday for sighting Eid crescent

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP):The Central Ruet e Hilal Committee,
chaired by Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, would meet in Lahore on Tuesday
evening for sighting the crescent of Shawal ul Mukaram 1437 AH.

According to a member of Ruet e Hilal Committee, zonal Ruet e
Hilal Committee, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) would meet in the
building of Ministry of Religious Affairs near General Post Office
(GPO).

Whereas the members of district committees would meet at their
respective district offices for sighting the Eid crescent.

Chairman Central Ruet e Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb ur

According to met office official, the chances of sighting the
crescent of Eid ul Fitr are very bright on Tuesday evening and Eid
ul Fitr could be celebrated on Wednesday.

According to experts the new crescent of Shawwal, 1437 AH will
be born on crossing conjunction point at 16 01 PST on July 04.
According to climate record, the weather is expected
fair/partly cloudy in most parts of the country on July 5.

Meanwhile, a member of Arab Union for Astronomy and Space
Science Dr. Khaled Al Zaaq claimed that July 6 was most likely to be
the day of Eid Al Fitr in most parts of the Islamic world.
