Proposed Energy National Action Plan can help save $ 6.4 bln annually: NEECA MD

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (APP): Underscoring the need for energy conservation in the country, Managing Director of National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) Dr Sardar Mohazzam on Monday said that the proposed Energy National Action Plan (ENAP) could help save $ 6.4 billion annually.

Out of total annual imports of $ 80-82 billion, the share of energy stood at around $ 27 billion and the Energy National Action Plan could reduce it by $ 6.4 billion, he added.

The NEECA managing director was briefing media persons about key initiatives including National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy, 2023, National Energy Conservation Action Plan 2023-2030, Pakistan Energy Conservation Building Code 2023, Pakistan Energy Labels Regulations 2021, Minimum Energy Performance Standards for Electrical Appliances and Electric Vehicles Regulation.

He said the NEEC Policy 2023 was approved in May this year, while the NEECA Board had also given its consent to the revision of Energy Conservation Building Energy Code.

He said only fans consumed 5000 megawatts of electricity during the summer season which could be saved by switching over to the energy efficient ones.

The managing director said some 29 action points had been identified in major sectors, including energy, industry, building, transport, agriculture and cross-sectoral for achieving the goal of energy conservation and efficiency.

He said saving a kWh (kilowatt hour)was worth than generating a kWh electricity. In 2021, Pakistan consumed staggering 116m817 Gwh (gigawatt hour) electricity, which had been rising at 5.3 percent annual compounded growth rate, he added.

Dr Sardar Mohazzam said the government had also banned production of incandescent, fluorescent lamps and inefficient fans.

He said a massive awareness campaign about conserving energy had been planned in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Energy efficiency and conservation awareness, creative content, animated TVC and cartoon series, theater drama concept, electronic and social media campaigns were also part of it, he added.

Later, a detailed briefing was given to the media persons about the measures being taken by the NEECA.

Over 42,000 Canadian Sikhs gathered in Malton for Khalistan Referendum after leader's assassination

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (APP): A staggering influx of over 42,000 Canadian Sikhs congregated at the Khalistan Referendum voting center in Malton, Ontario, following the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent pro-Khalistan leader in Canada.

The second phase of Canada Khalistan Referendum voting was held within a month after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, outside the local temple, which has been celebrated in India by the Modi government and Indian media.

Indian govt and Modi had claimed the killing will dampen the spirits of pro-Khalistani Sikhs but Sunday’s turnout in Malton showed that Sikhs remain undeterred by the high-profile assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar at the hands of Indian agencies, more than 42000 Sikhs voted in the second Phase Khalistan Referendum in Canada, said a press release issued by Sikhs for Justice on Monday.

On July 16, Khalistan Referendum Centre at Gurdwara Malton was dedicated to Shaheed Mohinder Singh Khalsa, a Canadian who left the country to fight for Khalistan in 1990’s. Sikhs who attended the event were carrying banners and flags with slogans of Khalistan, demand of freedom from India and tributes to those Sikhs who have been assassinated by India directly or indirectly for supporting the cause of Khalistan.

Men, women and youth who took part in the event chanted slogans vowing to avenge the killing of Shaheed Nijjar and others assassinated Khalistanis.

The voting was arranged by Sikhs For Justice under the supervision of the independent Punjab Referendum Commission (PRC). Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s General Counsel said about the turnout: “Assassination of Shaheed Nijjar by India worked as a catalyst to the ongoing Khalistan campaign. Thousands turned up in the Toronto Referendum challenging the Modi Government’s attempts to stop the movement.”

“India’s violence will be responded to by pro-Khalistan Sikhs in equal force,” added Pannun, who is coordinating the Global “Kill India” campaign to highlight the assassination of Shaheed Nijjar by Indian security agencies.

In his message on the 38th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Shahnawaz Bhutto here on Monday, he said that the martyrdom day of Shahnawaz Bhutto will keep reminding us how many inhuman atrocities had been done to the Bhutto family for standing with democracy, adding that after the judicial murder of Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the brutal killing of Shaheed Shahnawaz Bhutto was the second major tragedy for the Bhutto family and the party.

‘Being an elder sister, the grief and sorrow of the tragic separation of her younger brother always remained like an unhealed wound in the heart of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,’ he added.

European Union resolution criticizes human rights violations in India: PM AJK

Mirpur, Jul 17 (APP): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq on Monday said that the resolution of the European Parliament condemning the violations of human rights and persecution of religious minorities in India has left Modi and his party exposed at the international level.

“India has always tried to hoodwink the world through its policy of deceit and deception”, the PM said in a statement.

“The ruthless persecution of minorities in India was an eye-opener for the world”, PM emphatically said.

While welcoming the European Parliament for condemning human rights violations in India, the AJK premier demanded the European countries link trade with India to the improvement of the human rights situation in the country.

He said that “India was an extremist state where religious minorities have been deprived of their basic human rights”.

The AJK premier, while referring to continued bloodshed and violence in the Indian-occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said that India had been involved in massive human rights violations in the region.

He said that the Kashmiri people have been the worst victims of India’s fascism for the past several decades.

He, however, maintained that after August 5, 2019, India has turned the occupied territory into a military garrison, where people live in a state of perpetual fear and anxiety.

Terming India’s 5th August action as a violation of the UNSC resolutions, the PM said that after stripping the region of its special status, the Indian government was hectically engaged to change the region’s demography.

The prime minister said that the world should take notice of the worsening political and human rights situation in occupied Kashmir, and play its much-needed role to help resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute in line with the UNSC resolutions.

Sadia Danish elects unopposed Deputy Speaker GB Assembly

GILGIT, Jul 17 (APP): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Sadia Danish has been elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

No member of the Assembly submitted nomination papers against her and Speaker of the GB Assembly Nazir Ahmed Advocate, while presiding over the 22nd session, announced the election of the Member of the Assembly Sadia Danish
to the post of Deputy Speaker uncontested.

In the parliamentary history of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Sadia Danish is the first woman member of the Assembly who
was elected to the post of Deputy Speaker. Earlier, Sadia Danish was a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative
Assembly from 2009 to 2014 and was also part of the GB cabinet.

Kashmiris to observe ‘Accession to Pakistan Day’ on Wednesday

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (APP): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC) and across the world will observe Accession to Pakistan Day, on Wednesday (19th July), with a renewed pledge to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian occupation and complete merger of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.

According to Kashmir Media Service, It was on 19th July 1947 that genuine representatives of the Kashmiris unanimously passed the resolution of Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan during a meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Aabi Guzar area of Srinagar.

The historic resolution called for the accession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan in view of its existing religious, geographical, cultural and economic proximity to Pakistan and the aspirations of millions of Kashmiri Muslims.

The development had come almost a month before the creation of two sovereign states of Pakistan and India under the Partition Plan of the British Indian colony on August 14 and 15 respectively, the same year.

As per the understanding behind the Partition Plan, the Princely States were free to accede to either of the two newly established countries.

The decision of 19th July 1947 was a testimony to the fact that the people of Kashmir had linked their future with Pakistan. They took the decision of joining Pakistan to protect their political religious, social, cultural and economic rights, as they were well aware of their fate under Hindus who had deep-seated animosity for Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 500,000 Kashmiris have laid down their lives for Jammu and Kashmir’s freedom from Indian illegal occupation and its accession to Pakistan over the last seven decades. Indian brutalities have failed to wipe out the Kashmiris’ love for Pakistan.

Over 96,213 Kashmiris have fallen to Indian state terrorism including 7297 in custody since January 1989. At least 8,000 Kashmiri youth were subjected to custodial disappearance, 11,259 women were molested and 110,500 houses/shops/structures were destroyed during the period while over four thousand Kashmiris still remain lodged in different jails of occupied Kashmir and India.

Gold rates increase Rs.1,600 to 214,800 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (APP):The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs1,600 and was sold at Rs 214,800 on Monday against its sale at Rs 213,200 the previous day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs1,371 to Rs 184,156 from Rs 182,785 whereas the price of 10 grams 22 karat gold went up to Rs 168,810 from Rs 167,553, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola and 10 gram silver remained unchanged, i.e., Rs 2,650 and Rs 2,271.94 respectively.

The price of gold in the international market increased by $2 to $1,957 from $1955, the Association reported.

SIALKOT, Jul 17 (APP):Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that working day and night under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the incumbent government saved the country from default and revived the development projects, which were stopped by the previous government.

Addressing a public gathering after laying the foundation-stone of Sialkot Cantt to Jassar Cantt Road at Phalora on late Sunday night, he said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always accomplished development projects and tried its best to place the country in the list of developed countries.

The minister said some generals, who have retired, and some former judges, imposed Imran Khan on the people of Pakistan under a conspiracy. He said Pakistan had become one of the five fastest growing economies in the world under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, but the keys to development were snatched from Nawaz Sharif and handed it to a man who had not the experience of even running a union council in his life. That person (Imran Khan) experimented with every sector of the country and destroyed its economy.

He said that in the year 2018, the journey towards development was stopped through a conspiracy and the politics of hatred was started in Pakistan. Ahsan Iqbal said that 15 months ago, when the coalition government was formed through constitutional means, it had to bear the brunt of Imran Khan’s incompetence.

“Had we left the economy as it was inherited from the previous government, the future of 23 crore people would had destroyed with it,” he added. “We managed the economy and now it is out of danger, and on the way to recovery,” Ahsan Iqbal said.

The federal minister said that today, the trust of friendly countries of Pakistan was being restored. He said Pakistan’s friend China had invested $25 billion in Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) till 2018. Imran Khan came to power and made false allegations to defame China; he angered the friendly country by alleging corruption in CPEC projects. The result was that in four years, not a single dollar was invested by China in Pakistan, he added.

Ahsan Iqbal said that on July 14, $3.5 billion investment was made by China after five years, in the form of the Chashma nuclear plant. The 1200-MW nuclear power generation project had started with China’s investment. Similarly, work is starting on other CPEC projects, which was stopped in the PTI regime, he added.

The PTI government stopped work on power and water projects to create unrest in Gwadar. He said that the incumbent government completed the water project in Gwadar within six months of coming to the government, completed transmission line of 100-MW power from Iran within one year, laid the power line from Turbat to Panjgur within one year and connected to Gwadar Nation Grid Station.

“If we can complete these projects in one year, then why these projects remained incomplete in four years of Imran Khan,” asked the minister adding that Imran Khan, in fact, wanted to stop the CPEC projects. So that Pakistan becomes bankrupt and it is forced to compromise on its nuclear programme, he added.

The proposed road from Sialkot Cantt to Jassar Cantt is 69-km long and the estimated cost of the project is Rs. 7,065.597 million.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary Ali Zahid, Former Member Provincial Assembly Rana Liaqat and a large number of people were also present at the ceremony.
