Hina Khar calls for realizing blue economy potential

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (APP): Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar Monday stressed the importance of holistic policy framework and enabling the domestic ecosystem for realizing Pakistan’s maritime and blue economy potential.

Hina Rabbani was speaking at annual talks between Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Pakistan Naval Headquarters.

She urged a pro-active approach for seeking effective international partnerships in the maritime domain.

The Foreign Secretary Dr. Asad Majeed Khan and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Vice Admiral Ovais A Bilgrami led the respective sides for the talks. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar presided the meeting. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs was also represented in the meeting.

The meeting provided an opportunity for a comprehensive overview of Pakistan’s maritime interests including in the domain of maritime security, blue economy, disaster management, environmental protection and climate change imperatives. Pakistan’s participation in various regional and international forums dealing with maritime issues and opportunities for international collaboration and capacity-building in various fields were also discussed.

The participants of the meeting were unanimous on the need for early finalization of a comprehensive national maritime policy framework to synergise the efforts of all relevant stakeholders in the maritime domain for a holistic pursuit of the maritime interests of Pakistan.

The participants pledged to deepen their interaction and coordination and work with the relevant stakeholders for the achievement of this objective.

President condoles with Dr Tariq Fazal on death of son

Senate passes eight bills, refers others to relevant committees for review

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (APP): The Upper House of Parliament approved eight bills and sent several others to relevant committees for further review and discussion during Senate proceedings on Monday.

Additionally, during the same session, several other bills were referred to relevant committees.

This move is part of the parliamentary procedure to ensure thorough consideration and detailed examination of these bills before they can be potentially passed into law.

During Monday’s Senate proceedings, the Upper House of Parliament approved a series of bills, including The Horizon University Bill, 2023, which received unanimous support.

Senator Hidayatullah presented this bill.

Another bill, titled Imam Bukhari International Islamic University Sialkot Bill 2023, was also successfully passed by the Senate, and Senator Professor Sajid Mir played a key role in its presentation.

Additionally, the Senate approved the National University of Security Sciences Islamabad Bill 2023, which was moved by Senator Rana Mehmood ul Hassan.

Furthermore, the Contempt of Parliament Bill, 2023, was presented by Senator Kauda Babar and others, and it received the Senate’s approval.

Among the bills passed during the proceedings, the NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology Multan (Amendment) Bill, 2023, stood out, and credit for its presentation goes to Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, Rana Tanveer Hussain.

Lastly, the Senate approved the Institute of Management Sciences and Technology Bill, 2023, which was presented by Senator Rana Maqbool Hussain.

During the recent Senate session, Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi introduced The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2023, which was subsequently passed by the House.

In addition, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla presented the Pakistan Nursing Council (Amendment) Bill 2023, which received approval with certain amendments.

Moreover, the Trade Organisation (Amendment) Bill 2023, moved by Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, Abdul Qadir Patel, was also passed by the Senate, accompanied by amendments.

Governor Sindh lauds USAID’s contribution in social sector

KARACHI, Jul 24 (APP): Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori while lauding the contribution of USAID in the social sector in the province, has said that USAID is helping in the provision of improved facilities to the masses, especially health and education sectors.

This he said during a meeting with the Consul General of USA in Karachi Ms.Nicole Theriot at Governor House here Monday.

Bilateral relations, investment opportunities in the province, projects of USAID, IT program under Governor’s initiative and other matters of mutual interests were discussed on the occasion.

Governor Sindh said that US investment would generate employment and help in reducing poverty. IT program is aimed at making the youth financially empowered, he added.

Consul General said that US investors are interested in investing in various sectors in the province.

She lauded various public welfare projects including IT courses for youth.

Later, she visited the ‘Bell of Hope’ where Governor Sindh informed her about the objectives of installing this bell.

She also witnessed the registration process of Taqatwar Pakistan Ration begs and distributed ration amongst registered persons.

Ms.Nicole Theriot along with Governor Sindh visited Quaid’s Room and saw the personal belongings of the father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah preserved there.

RDA generates Rs 903.13 mln revenue during last fiscal year

RAWALPINDI, Jul 24 (APP): The Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate and Estate Management Directorate, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) generated Rs 903.13 million revenue against the target of Rs 608 million set for fiscal year 2022-23.

According to RDA spokesman, the Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing had collected Rs 558 million, Planning Wing collected Rs 293.29 million while Estate Management Directorate collected Rs 51.84 million during last fiscal year, which is one of the highest revenue recovery generated by the department.

He said that RDA succeeded to generate additional revenue because of hard work and commitment of the officials concerned.

The spokesman informed that the Land Use and Building Control Wing had approved 1728 residential building plans and 151 commercial maps that were submitted by the citizens at the One Window Operation Centre of RDA.

RDA had also taken action against illegal housing schemes and illegal constructions during the last fiscal year, he said adding, fines were imposed on the rules violators while First Information Reports were also lodged against the owners of illegal housing schemes and unapproved residential and commercial constructions.

The Director General, Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa appreciated the efforts of the MP&TE Directorate and instructed all the officers to work honestly and take strict action in accordance with the law against illegal and unapproved constructions and illegal housing schemes, he added.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs (SAPM-YA), Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who served as the chief guest. Interim PM to be appointed as per Constitution: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said the caretaker prime minister would be appointed as per the procedure enshrined in the Constitution.

The announcement for the purpose would also be made accordingly, the minister said in a news statement.

According to the Constitution, the prime minister and the opposition leader would finalize the interim PM’s appointment after consultation, Marriyum noted.

She said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would consult with allied parties and also seek the guidance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in that regard.
