Chinese firm donates Rs.10 million for restoration of flood-affected areas in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 07 (APP): A Chinese Construction Firm, China State Construction Engineering Cooperation Limited, on Friday donated ten million rupees for the restoration of affected areas of Pakistan during the devastating floods and heavy rains.

In this regard, the Chinese company presented a cheque to the Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Capt (R) Muhammad Khurrum Agha at a donation ceremony held at National Highway Authority Auditorium, said a press release.

Federal Secretary for Communications and Chairman NHA said China has always extended a helping hand to Pakistan at all times as a true friend. “Whenever needed China has always extended a helping hand to Pakistan and it may rightly be termed “A Friend in need”, he said.

He also commended the cooperation of China provided for rescue and relief operation undertaken for ease of the rains and floods affected people in Pakistan.

He recalled the Chinese support for restoration of road network during the disaster which paved the way to accelerate the pace of relief operation in various parts of the country.

Agha said, it was a source of pride for us that Chinese Companies engaged in construction and development process were performing exemplary services. He appreciated the long term support of China for sharing the agonies of the needy.

On the occasion, Minister-Counselor Xie Guoxiang and First Secretary Zhu Songsong of Chinese Embassy said, China Pakistan Friendship was based on sincere sentiments for the well-being of people of both friendly states.

They said, heavy rains and floods have badly damaged the infrastructure of Pakistan and China has extended all possible assistance to set all the affected sectors right. This little donation was also a part of backing benefits. China has always stood with Pakistan and these time tested ties would continue in the years to come.

The representatives of China State Construction Engineering Cooperation were also present on the occasion and the ceremony was rounded off with exchange of souvenirs and commemorative shields from both the sides.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (APP):Hailed as the amazing mind behind few of the best films in Lollywood industry, Film-maker, cinematographer and screen-writer Bilal Lashari recently opened up about his upcoming hit, The Legend of Maula Jatt.

As the fans are anxiously waiting for the premier of TLMJ, the curiosity to know more about the film before its release still exists which was relieved by the film-maker as he shared titbits of the film in his recent interview with BBC.

To let people know about some important facts of the storyline Lashari stated,

“We have re-used some of the old themes of the story but with a new twist which will be exciting and more fun for the fans of old Maula Jatt. Overall, it’s not a remake but throughout a new story with many new characters while using just the lead characters and few famous dialogues from the 1979 version.”

As shared by the interview host about the previous version of the movie being accused of giving a toxic vibe, ‘Khuda Kay Liye’ director promised a new twist this time saying,

“This story has both the ‘Damsel in Distress’ and ‘Empowered Women’ which is quite different from the stereotypical representations of the women in previous entertainment industry where ‘a woman’s will’ was never a matter of concern.”

While sharing about the most striking point for viewers about TLMJ, Lashari claimed that the actual attraction of the movie which will pull the viewers towards it, is the creation of a fantasy world which is timeless and they will feel themselves drown into another world which is very different from the present time just like centuries ago.

Set to be premiered on October 13, the director is hopeful to launch ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ over ‘OTT platforms’ as well after its successful cinematic release.

ISLAMABAD, OCT 7 (APP):”The life of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is a role model for the universe and Islam always give the message of peace, love and affection to the mankind.”

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Qamar Zaman Kaira made these remarks after inaugurating the calligraphy of Wasil Shahid titled “Salloo Alihhe waalihe (Blessings be upon the Prophet and his family)” here on Friday.

Kaira said that Muslims should follow the footprints of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) for a peaceful and successful life.

The aim of this exhibition was to highlight the Islamic calligraphy with Turkish style as the Islamic Calligraphy and culture has a unique status in art.

Over 20 pieces of calligraphy were exhibited in the exhibition and verses of Holy Quran were described on various art pieces.

Ceremony held in connection with World Cotton Day

MULTAN, Oct 07 (APP): Central Cotton Research Institute Multan organized a ceremony in connection with the World Cotton Day here on Friday.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice President Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) Dr. Muhammad Ali Talpur said that the government attached great importance to cotton and was working diligently to make the crop profitable and facilitate farmers.  

He said government was following a comprehensive plan to reduce the production cost of cotton and increase per acre yield adding that the government would ensure the availability of funds for institutes for cotton research and development. 

Director Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Dr Zahid Mahmood said the organization was developing varieties keeping in view the demand of the textile sector.

The DG termed cotton as jugular vein of country’s economy and added that they were going to reduce the cotton production cost.

In addition, he said in order to deal with the future challenges, the government should remove the financial difficulties of the research institutes so that agronomists could provide farmers with the best varieties against climate change and cotton pests. 

Former Chairman Pakistan Cotton Growers Association (PCGA) Sohail Haral said modern technology should be acquired to enhance the crop. 

Punjab Cotton Research and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Bilal said the government should establish cotton research institutes and restore the frozen funds of the research institutes which were facing financial difficulties. 

He further said the government should ban the import of duty free cotton and save its farmers from loss and reduce the production cost of cotton. 

CCRI Head of Entomology Dept Dr. Rabia Saeed informed the participants in detail about the eradication of cotton pink boll-worm.

Private sector representatives Jawad Mushtaq, Muhammad Adnan, Waqas Ahmed, Muhammad Abdullah and Shahzad Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier,an awareness walk was also organized and stalls were set up by various companies.

Joint sitting of Parliament rescheduled for Oct 11

ISLAMABAD, Oct 07 (APP): The National Assembly speaker has rescheduled the joint sitting of Parliament on October 11 (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. instead of October 20, (Thursday).

According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the joint session had been rescheduled by the speaker in exercise of the powers conferred by proviso to Rule 4 of the Parliament (Joint Sittings) Rules, 1973.

Bilawal grieves over loss of lives in Manjhand accident

KARACHI, Oct 07 (APP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday expressed his grief over loss of lives in a road accident near Manjhand on Thursday.

At least 14 passengers were killed and many injured in bus-truck collision on the Indus Highway near Manjhand.

FM Bilawal, in a statement, sympathized with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace of those killed in the accident. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
