No peace in Middle East without resolving Palestinian issue: FM Bilawal

0

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 19 (APP): Reaffirming its full support to the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and against foreign occupation, Pakistan Monday urged the international community to help them establish an independent State of their own with Al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital.

“The festering wound of Israeli occupation and atrocities in occupied Palestine is the principal source of instability, tensions and conflict in the entire Middle East,” Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari told a meeting of OIC’s Committee of Six on Palestine, which was held on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

“To bring peace and stability to the Middle East, the issue of Palestine – the source of the region’s insecurity and its multiple conflicts – must be effectively addressed as the first and most urgent priority,” he added.

The OIC Committee of Six on Palestine comprises the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Senegal, Malaysia, and Guinea plus the OIC secretary general, with the Palestinian Authority’s top diplomat as its sixth member.

At the outset, FM Bilawal strongly condemned Israel’s continued killing and wounding of Palestinian civilians, including children; violation of the sanctity of the holy places, the demolition of Palestinian homes and the forcible displacement of Palestinian families; and the brazen murder of the Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Aqleh.

As the Chairman of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, he said, Pakistan remains ready to join hands with other member states in any move to stop the ongoing bloodshed, and restore the human dignity and human rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.

The foreign minister said all necessary steps must be taken to stop the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, including the following:

1. The international community must protect the suffering Palestinians, and should urgently take concerted actions to stop Israeli atrocities against civilian population;

2. Attempts to create a false equivalence between Israel, the aggressor, and Palestinians, the victims, are inexcusable and, as the collective voice of the Muslim Ummah, the OIC should work in unity to dispel this deceptive perception;

3. Appropriate accountability mechanisms should be created to seek justice against Israel’s violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva and the other human rights Conventions; and,

4. The establishment of a sovereign, contiguous and viable Palestinian State, within recognized and accepted pre-1967 boundaries with Al Quds al Sharif as its capital offers the only solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and a peace process to achieve this objective must be revived.

In conclusion, FM Bilawal reaffirmed Pakistan’s abiding support for the Palestinian people in their just struggle to secure legitimate rights, particularly their inalienable right to self-determination.

Punjab govt failed to address issues of masses: Attaullah Tarar

0

LAHORE, Sep 19 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister Attaullah Tarar on Monday said the Punjab government completely failed to address the issues of the masses.

Talking to the media here, he said that millions of people had become homeless due to natural calamity in the country. He said that the federal government was working to help and rehabilitate them.

However, it was unfortunate that the party, which was in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, could not be seen in this situation, he added.

He said that the party was continuously holding public meetings and millions of rupees were being spent on it, adding that a false and anti-state narrative was being brought up through these public meetings.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his son, Moonis Elahi, were also not seen in the flood-hit areas.

He claimed that no steps were being taken for the welfare of the masses in the chief minister’s office, despite hue and cry over shortage and prices of wheat and medicine. The Punjab government had failed to play its role in this regard, he said.

He said that during Hamza Shehbaz’s tenure, the wheat flour was not only available at cheap price but also easily available at every place. He alleged that the Punjab government did not have any focus on wheat flour as it supported the hoarders. He said that whenever the PTI or Q-League came into power, an artificial shortage was created through the Atta Mafia to benefit a few.

He said, “We considered Usman Buzdar as the most incompetent chief minister in the history of the province but the current government had broken all records as neither crime is coming under control nor wheat or medicine issues are being resolved.”

He alleged that the Punjab government was being run in the style of the Gujrat Zila Council.

He said that the chief secretary had gone on leave and secretary finance was not working because bureaucracy was being forced for illegal steps.

He said that a sessions court confirmed his bail in a false case made by PTI chairman and Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as nothing proved against him. He said that the bail was confirmed due to lack of evidence and prosecution failed to build its case.

He said that three director generals of Anti-Corruption Establishment had been changed for closing cases against companions and co-accused.

“If your hands are clean then why Farah is not being called back from abroad,” he questioned. He said that the cases would not finish whether they changed three or thirty director generals.

Atta Tarar said, “We have many options to topple the Parvez Elahi government. I don’t think that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will be able to get the vote of confidence,” adding that the timing had not been decided yet.

To a question, he said that all decisions were made with the consultation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

In addition to the vaccines, the US government has also provided over $80 million in direct and in-kind support to assist the Pakistani people in the fight against COVID-19. This support has included more than 1.2 million N95 masks, 96,000 surgical masks, 52,000 protective goggles, one million COVID-19 rapid diagnostic tests, 1,200 pulse oximeters, and 200 ventilators for 64 Pakistani hospitals, all of which has helped save lives and protect people across teh country.

The US government also trained over 50,000 health workers, including 30,000 women, across Pakistan on home-based care for COVID-19 patients, and established a national network of disease surveillance and response units and teams – providing an infrastructure to combat the current pandemic and building resiliency for the future.

In July, the United States also provided four mobile testing labs to the National Institute of Health to strengthen Pakistan’s ability to diagnose diseases in remote, under-served areas, the press release added.
