People of KP, Kashmiri to observe Oct 27 as Black Day to condemn forced occupation of IIOJK

0

PESHAWAR, Oct 26 (APP): The people of Khyber Pakthunkhwa and Kashmir would observe October 27 as Black Day to strongly condemn the forced occupation of Indian Illegally Occupied Jummu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by India and would demand UN Security Council to implement its resolutions on Kashmir.

Big protest demonstrations and rallies have been planned in all 35 districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa where people of KP would express solidarity with Kashmiris. They would raise placards and banners to protest against illegal and forced occupation of IIOJK by India.

On October 27, 1947, the sufferings of Kashmiri people started with the landing of Indian occupation troops in Jammu and Kashmir, which had been further increased after Modi’s fascist government abolished the special status of IIOJK after revoking Articles 370 and 35-A of Indian constitution on August 5, 2019.

October 27 is observed as Kashmir Black Day each year to mark protest and resentment by Kashmiris around the world including Pakistan to condemn forced occupation of the Held Valley.

The transport and rickshaw unions of Peshawar have planned big protest demonstration in front of Press Club in connection with the Day.

Former Ambassador of Pakistan, Manzoorul Haq told APP on Wednesday that the unlawful and illegal forced occupation of IIOJ&K by India was a clear violation of Pak-Indo partition plan, UN Charter and United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSC) besides International laws.

Despite 75 years forced occupation, he said India had completely failed to suppress the legitimate freedom movement of Kashmiris in the Held Valley. “The indigenous freedom movement in IIOJK has entered into decisive stage after unilateral and illegal actions taken by the fascist Modi government on August 5, 2019.”

He said these illegal acts had exposed real face of the so-called secular state and proved that there was no room for minorities in India where Muslims and Kashmiris were being subjected to serious human rights abuses, extra judicial killings and state-terrorism.

Manzoor said August 5, 2019 illegal actions by India could not change the disputed status of IIOJ&K as it was an internationally recognized disputed territory and people of the held valley would decide about their future as promised to them by UNO through its Security Council resolutions.

Ambassador Manzoor said August 5 illegal actions had put the peace of entire South Asia at stake and another war on Kashmir between two nuclear armed neighbor countries would prove disastrous for the entire region.

He said that these illegal actions had exposed India’s nefarious designs against oppressed Kashmiris as well as Modi government’s hegemonic expansionist policies through subjugation of minorities including Kashmiris through state terrorism.

He said that India could neither change the disputed status of IIOJK as enshrined in UNSC resolutions, nor could it force Pakistan and Kashmiris to accept illegal outcomes, adding time is nearer when Kashmiris would get freedom from Indian yoke.

Professor Dr. H.R Hialali, former Chairman Political Science Department, University of Peshawar said that four wars had been fought between the two nuclear armed neighboring countries on Kashmir and another war could prove disastrous for the entire South Asia and its devastating effects might go beyond this region.

He said that the road to peace in subcontinent was passing through Kashmir and lasting peace and stability in the region could not be established unless resolution of this core issue as per wishes of Kashmiris.

Shah urges Kashmiris to observe October 27 as ‘black day’

0

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26 (APP): APHC senior leader and chairman Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmed Shah on Wednesday while urging people to observe October 27, as “Black Day”, said India’s prolonged military occupation over the territory was a threat to peace and stability.

While referring to devastating impacts of the illegal occupation, the incarcerated APHC leader said that the invasion of Kashmir by India on October 27, 1947 was a naked aggression devoid of legal and moral justification.

According to press statement received here, he terming it as an atrocious attack on the political and democratic rights of millions of Kashmiris, Shah said, on this fateful day the so-called democratic state had brazenly violated the international law by usurping the fundamental rights of the people of Kashmir.

“Despite suffering at the hands of Indian tyrants the valiant people of Kashmir have never accepted its dominance over the region,” he said while recalling Kashmiris’ historic resistance against the Indian occupation.

“Kashmiris have neither accepted the hegemony of the Indian state in the past nor will they accept it in the future”, Shah said adding that the day was not far when Kashmiris’ struggle and their sacrifices for the noble cause would reach to fruition.

About the Modi government’s unlawful actions it had taken on Kashmir since August 5, 2019, Shah said Kashmiris have fairly and squarely rejected the move and there were no takers in Kashmir of what the BJP has been remorselessly projecting to deceive the international community.

He said any piece of legislation made by the Indian parliament couldn’t supersede the UN resolutions which clearly state that no country can change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir unilaterally.

Urging the world community to play its proactive role to end India’s prolonged military occupation he said that the world needs to realize the devastating impacts of the 75-year long illegal occupation.

NUMS wins HEC research project grant to work on early detection of Cancer in Pakistan

0

RAWALPINDI, Oct 26 (APP): National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has won grant of over Rs 7 million from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for conducting research into identifying “biomarkers” for detection of cancer at an early stage in Pakistani population.

This was stated by Asma Saleem Qazi, Assistant Professor (Molecular Pathology) Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) NUMS, whose research proposal was selected by HEC through a competitive process held across the country under the National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU). This research project will last for three years, she added.

The “development of diagnostic panel for early-stage cancer detection” project will gather samples from the Pakistani population which would help in early diagnosis of cancer. Currently, “cancer among patients in the country is detected when it is already spread and the chances of their survival are very low”, she said.

According to WHO, the number of overall new cancer patients in Pakistan in 2020 stood at 178,338, among them 88,015 were males and 90,373 were females.

Dr Asma said the majority of females were affected by breast cancer while males were mostly afflicted by lip and oral cancer. There were “various causes behind cancer including smoking, using different types of ‘paans’ (betel leaves), and air and water pollutants, she added.

Meanwhile, NUMS and the Malaysian University College Sedaya International (UCSI) are also collaborating to study the anti-cancer potential of certain hemisynthesized derivatives or plant extracts in treating cancer.

Under the “Research excellence and innovation grant”, UCSI is funding the project which is a recognition of NUMS research potential, said Dr. Asma. She and her team in collaboration with Malaysian scientist Dr. Lionel In LianAun and his team have jointly developed the project.

Giving details of the project, she said. “it revolves around studying anticancer potential and preclinical assessments of certain plants and /or hemisynthesized derivatives in different solid tumors and cancers. Based on some data available, these extracts and derivatives possess anti-cancer potential. Yet, still, some more research is required to reach a conclusion in this regard.”

Dr. Aisha Mohyuddin, Dean Multidisciplinary Studies NUMS, emphasized the importance of cancer research in the Pakistani patient population. There is a lack of reliable epidemiologic data of our patients that is an impediment to developing informed evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention and treatment, she said.

She added that NUMS was committed to conducting good quality cancer research in various areas, including natural product research, nanomedicine and genetics, which would “ultimately benefit our patient population”.

Dr. Asma said many common factors in Pakistan and Malaysia were among the causes of cancer in both the countries which also motivated them into a joint research venture. According to the global cancer observatory, mouth and lip cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, colon and colorectal cancer prevalence is quite high in both collaborating countries.

“We have selected the cancer types based on their prevalence between both collaborating countries. Pakistan is the land of multiple ethnicities and owing to cancer heterogeneity, mutational analysis and the silent threat of its uncontrolled spread makes cancer one of the most common killers. Likewise, Malaysia also has diverse ethnicity and cultural system, among all Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnicities have shown high incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer,” she said.
