Kashmir issue should be properly resolved in accordance with UN resolution: China

0

BEIJING, Oct 27 (APP): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning on Thursday said that the Kashmir issue should be properly resolved peacefully in accordance with the United Nations (UN) charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement and stressed to avoid taking unilateral actions that could further complicate the situation.

“China’s position on the issue of Kashmir has been consistent and clear. This is an issue left over by history between India and Pakistan and should be properly managed peacefully in accordance with the UN charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and relevant bilateral agreements,” she said during her regular briefing held at International Press Center (IPC).

On this day, October 27, 1947, India undertook a unilateral action in Kashmir and forcibly occupied the territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming Kashmir an issue left over by history between India and Pakistan, she said that the relevant parties should avoid taking unilateral actions that could further complicate the situation but rather engage in dialogue and consultations to resolve the dispute and maintain peace and stability in the region.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistanis and Kashmiris all over the world observe October 27 every year as “Black Day” to protest India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir on the same date in 1947.

The suffering of the Kashmiri people started with the invasion of the 80,000 Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian occupation has continued for 75 years, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been resisting the Indian occupation for this entire time.

They are facing the worst kind of state terrorism as India has converted IIOJK into the largest human cage in the world in violation of all existing human rights treaties and bindings.

US Ambassador announces additional $30m as flood assistance

0

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (APP):US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome on Thursday announced an additional US$30 million in humanitarian assistance to support flood-affected populations in Pakistan.

Ambassador Blome made the announcement during a visit with USAID’s implementing partner, ACTED, in the Shikarpur district of Sindh, where he helped to distribute emergency shelter, latrines and hygiene kits among flood-affected people.

The Ambassador also traveled to Makhno village, where the flood-affected community uses USG emergency shelter kits as temporary housing. He talked with flood victims to learn about the impact of the flooding and understand their needs.

This new funding brings the United States’ total assistance to Pakistan for flood response, food security and disaster preparedness and capacity-building efforts to $97 million this year, said a statement issued here by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

The new funding will expand efforts to address immediate needs, scaling up assistance to the most affected communities and enabling USAID to reach more than 4 million people. With the additional funding, the U.S. government, through USAID, will provide life-saving food, nutrition, and health assistance to mitigate increased food insecurity and malnutrition resulting from the impact of the floods, as well as curb the rise of diseases resulting from stagnant flood waters.

The new funding will also provide shelter supplies to help families rebuild as well as winterization kits to help families prepare ahead of cold weather. As the women and girls are disproportionately impacted by natural disasters, like flooding, the United States is providing increased protection support to prevent gender-based violence as well as provide support for survivors.

Khursheed Shah for educating farmers to control water wastage in irrigation process

0

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (APP): Minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah while underlining the importance of water on Thursday stressed the need for educating farmers to control the wastage of water during the irrigation process.

“There is a dire need to educate and train the farmers so unnecessary water wastage can be saved”, the minister said while talking to media persons here after inaugurating the technology showcasing exhibition in the pretext of ongoing Pakistan Water Week here.

He said water was more expensive than petrol and diesel in the rest of the world, but unfortunately, “We did not give so much importance and value to it in our country”. “Pakistan has around 150 million acre-feet (MAF) water, but can only store around 13 MAF and the rest goes to waste every year”, he added.

He was of the view, “Our farmers were mostly not educated and they did not know how to conserve and store water. Our current food basket was indebted to water”, he added.

He said Sukkur Barrage was built by the British government for irrigating system. K-IV and K-V projects have been approved to meet the water requirement of Karachi, he said.

He was of the view that if rationing of water was in-placed, 650 million gallon of water would be sufficient for Karachi. “Our population has been rapidly increasing which would ultimately also affect our food basket”, he said.

Khursheed said around 700 RO plants were set up in Thar for water treatment, but now nearly 100 were functioning.

He advised all the quarters concerned to showcase exhibitions in all agri universities of the country and educate the people about climate change and water issues.

He said Pakistan remained the victim of climate change and the world was giving us only token money.
Responding to a question, the minister said that efforts were being made to complete Diamer Basha dam and other such projects at the earliest.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the exhibition and took around various stalls set up by various institutions.
