UAJK’s Geological Field Camp 2023 sets new academic milestone

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 24 (APP): The Institute of Geology at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) successfully concluded Geological Field Training Camp-2023 here on Thursday aimed at enhancing the practical knowledge and skills of students in the field of geology.

The event brought together students and faculty members from esteemed institutions across Pakistan, including Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, Bahria University Islamabad, Punjab University, Abbottabad University of Science and Technology, Aird Agriculture University Rawalpindi, University of Swat, Military College of Engineering Risalpur, and many more.

The closing ceremony, held at the Institute of Geology King Abdullah Campus Chatter Kallas, was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice-Chancellor UAJK, as the chief guest.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Prof. Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Rustam Khan, Prof. Khawaja Muhammad Basharat, Director ORIC-UAJK Dr. Abdul Rauf Janjua, Syed Kamran Ali, Dr. Safi ur Rehman (Instructor) from Military College of Engineering Risalpur as well as a substantial number of students and faculty members representing various universities.

During the ceremony, Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan, Director of the Institute of Geology, provided an in-depth overview of the highly successful Geological Field Training Camp 2023, highlighting its objectives and accomplishments.

He expressed gratitude to the students and faculty members from other universities for their trust in the UAJK and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to further enhancing the camp’s effectiveness in the coming years.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi emphasized the three main objectives of universities: teaching and learning, research, and community service. He shared his achievements in providing an exceptional educational environment within Azad Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed his commitment to the university’s ongoing mission.

Acknowledging the importance of research and diversity, he highlighted the institution’s efforts in fostering partnerships and community engagement. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi congratulated the faculty and management of the Institute of Geology for orchestrating a highly successful Geological Field Camp and commended their dedication to enriching the educational journey of students.

Gohar assures enhanced economic cooperation with Uzbekistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries, Dr. Gohar Ejaz here on Thursday assured possible facilitation in enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Uzbekistan.

The minister was talking to Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Aybek Arif Usmanov who met him here, according to press statement issued by the commerce ministry.

The statement added, they discussed matters of mutual trade interest and expressed optimism about the potential for increased trade partnerships and cooperation in various sectors.

It was pertinent to mention, the meeting marked a significant step towards fostering closer relations and harnessing shared opportunities for growth, the statement added.

Ambassador Usmanov extended his warm congratulations to Dr. Gohar Ejaz for assuming the role of Caretaker Federal Minister.

He also conveyed heartfelt well-wishes from the President and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, highlighting the importance of nurturing strong ties between the two nations.

KPCIP projects to elevate urban living: Mayor Mardan

PESHAWAR, Aug 24 (APP):Mardan City Mayor Himayatullah Mayar said that upon the completion of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP), the living standards of citizens will improve.
While chairing a meeting regarding the ongoing KPCIP project, he expressed that the project includes the establishment of a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), Green Urban Spaces (GUS), and a Scientific Sanitary Landfill site (SLF) for fourteen Urban Councils in Mardan. An allocated budget of 8.5 billion rupees is being used for the construction of the STP, which is currently in progress. Additionally, the GUS project will be carried out with a budget of 58 million rupees, and the SLF will be established in Mardan with an allocated budget of 3.5 billion rupees.
During the meeting, Engineer Muhammad Khalil Akbar, Chief Engineer of the Cities Implementation Unit in Mardan, briefed the participants. Present at the meeting were Tehsil Municipal Officer Mardan Sarfaraz Khan, Tehsil Officer Finance Ayaz, and Tehsil Officer Infrastructure Haroon Khan.
The City Mayor was informed that the KPCIP project aims to establish a sewerage treatment plant, green urban spaces, and a modern scientific sanitary landfill site in Mardan. The sanitary landfill site is designed to efficiently manage municipal waste, while the sewerage treatment plant will address issues related to wastewater management. The green urban spaces will offer environmental benefits and enhance the aesthetics of Mardan city.
Under this project, municipal waste will be collected from every household in Mardan city and re-purposed for other environmentally friendly purposes. The Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) project will connect the domestic sewerage connections of six urban union councils to the STP for treatment and reuse for irrigation purposes.
The green urban spaces project will address issues related to environmental pollution and beautification. Mayor Himayatullah Mayar expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development projects of KPCIP, stating that these projects will be completed in consultation with all stakeholders.
He emphasized that all available resources will be utilized to provide the best sanitation services for the citizens of Mardan, and he underscored that improved service delivery to the citizens is their top priority.

SIALKOT, Aug 24 (APP):A delegation of Surgical Instrument Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMAP) will visit Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PSGMEA) here on Friday, August, 25.
According to Secretary General PSGMEA, Chairman PSGMEA Arshad Latif Butt and Chief Coordinator SIMAP Jahangir Baber Bajwa will ink a memorandum of understand (MoU) during special ceremony to be held at PREGMEA Auditorium.
Members of the Executive Committee of PSGMEA will also attend the ceremony, said PSGMEA secretary general.

UC, Chaman: Bismillah Khan’s win revoked, Rehmatullah emerges as winner

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rescinded Bismillah Khan’s winning status for Ward no 1 in Union Council no 18, District Chaman, Balochistan province.
According to a notification issued by ECP, the commission has declared Rehmatullah, son of Abdul Haq, as the new victor for the general seat in that ward and council.
The decision has been undertaken following the judgment of the Balochistan High Court dated August 4, 2023.

Nine drug peddlers, bootleggers netted

RAWALPINDI, Aug 24 (APP):Rawalpindi police in an action against suspected drug peddlers, bootleggers and other lawbreakers here on Thursday arrested nine accused besides recovering over three kg charras, 19 liters & two bottles of liquor and other items from their possession.
According to a police spokesperson, Dhamial police held 1800 grams charras and two bottles of liquor from his possession.
Kalar Syedan police rounded up Mazhar Iqbal for having 510 grams charras. Sadiqabad police netted Saleem with 501 grams charras while Race Course police nabbed Samiullah for having 500 grams charras and Danish for possessing 10 liters liquor.
Airport police also arrested Arslan on recovery of five liters liquor.
Sadiqabad held an accused namely Gilgas for possessing four liters liquor. Rawat police rounded up Waseem with 400 grams charras.
Separate cases have been registered against all accused while further investigations are underway.

ICT admin clears encroachments, held 5 person

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration held five persons hampering pedestrian movement during its ongoing anti-encroachment drive across the city, said its spokesperson here on Thursday.
He said all the assistant commissioners were directed to clear pathways in markets and public places following Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon’s direction for hassle-free movement of visitors into the markets.
Meanwhile, in another action against profiteers, the assistant commissioners scrutinized 100 locations, resulting in fines of Rs15,500 to vendors for not displaying an official rate list and selling edible items at exorbitant rates.
Similarly, the ICT teams also sealed an unauthorized LPG filling, besides confiscating 28 kg of polythene bags, the spokesman added.

DPO Sialkot holds open court

SIALKOT, Aug 24 (APP):District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot Muhammad Hasan Iqbal held an open court at Saddar Pasrur police station.
A large number of local residents participated and shared their complaints.
After listening to the complaints, the DPO issued orders to the officers concerned to take departmental action against the negligent officials and redress the complaints on merit.
After the open court, DPO Muhammd Hasan told the media that all senior officers carrying out investigation of serious cases were present at the open court. He said the aim of holding of open courts was to reduce gap between the police and the public by making it easier for citizens to reach out to officers for resolution of their problems.

PESHAWAR, Aug 24 (APP):The Provincial Elections Commission has completed all preparations for the by-elections to fill vacant seats in 65 village and neighborhood councils across 21 districts on August 27.
Ballot papers for polling have been printed and handed over to the relevant District Returning Officers and Returning Officers. The 21 districts where elections will take place include Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Khyber, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Tank, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Butgram, Torghar, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Dir Upper, Dir Lower, and Bajaur.
A total of 256 polling stations have been set up for the by-elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including 102 male, 89 female, and 65 joint polling stations. These polling stations will have a total of 798 polling booths, and approximately 385,000 voters are expected to exercise their right to vote.
