ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday turned around to bullish trend, gaining 332.14 points, a positive change of 0.70 percent, closing at 47,750.77 points against 47,418.63 points the previous trading day.
A total of 251,691,469 shares were traded during the day as compared to 188,680,077 shares the previous day.
As many as 318 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 175 of them recorded gains and 115 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 28 companies remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were Faysal Bank with 21,922,419 shares at Rs 23.94 per share; Nishat ChunPow with 15,282,500 shares at Rs 23.82 per share and Gul Ahmed with 14,664,132 shares at Rs 18.82 per share.
Mari Petroleum witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 18.86 per share price, closing at Rs 1,655.82, whereas the runner-up was Bal Wheels with an Rs 11.17 rise in its per share price to Rs160.07.
Nestle Pakistan witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 107.17 per share closing at Rs 7,097.83; followed by Bata (Pak) with Rs 9.00 decline to close at Rs 1,760.00.






ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP): The Supreme Court on Thursday maintained its stay order against the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in a lawyer murder case in Quetta.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the petition against addition of Imran Khan’s name in FIR.
During the course of proceeding, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail inquired that if the accused had joined the investigation as per the direction of the High Court. He remarked that the accused had to settle whether he would join the investigation or not.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Latif Khosa Advocate said that his client wouldn’t appear before the joint investigation team (JIT), adding that anti-terrorism law couldn’t be applied in this case against Chairman PTI.
The chief justice remarked that the bench also had other questions in the case, but it couldn’t hear it in the absence of the complainant.
It may be mentioned here that Lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar had been shot dead by the firing of the unknown accused in Quetta on June 6. The son of the slain lawyer had named four people in FIR including Imran Khan.
ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP): Pakistani rupee on Thursday witnessed 59 paisa devaluation against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs300.22 against the previous day’s closing of Rs299.63.
However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs314 and Rs317 respectively.
The price of the Euro increased by Rs1.87 to close at Rs 326.16 against the last day’s closing of Rs324.29, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese Yen remained unchanged and stood at Rs2.06, whereas an in increase of Rs1.50 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs381.52 as compared to the last closing of Rs380.02.
The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 16 paisa and 32 paisa to close at Rs81.73 and Rs80.03 respectively.
ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP): The best Hockey5s teams (men and women) from Asia would go head-to-head in Salalah, Oman, for the opportunity to be crowned the inaugural Asian Hockey5s Champions from August 25 to September 2.
The final three spots (per gender) for the FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 would also be up for grabs.
The event would feature both men’s and women’s competition.
Bangladesh, Hong Kong China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia and Oman would compete in both men’s and women’s events, said a press release.
Additionally, Chinese Taipei and Thailand would compete in the women’s event to feature 10 teams, while Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan will play in just the men’s competition, which will see 11 teams participate.
The women’s competition would begin on August 25 and run until 28.
The men’s event would begin right after, running from August 29 to September 2.
The event will feature a new format that will see teams split into two pools, i.e., the Elite Pool and the Challenger Pool.
In the women’s competition, India, Malaysia, Japan and Thailand will be placed in the Elite pool. Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran and Oman will go into the Challenger pool.
After the teams complete their pool matches, crossover matches will be played amongst the bottom two teams of the elite pool and the top two teams in the challenger pool.
The winners of the crossovers will then take on the top two teams from the elite pool in the semi-finals.
The losing semi-finalists would play in the bronze medal match, where the winner, along with the two finalists will qualify for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024.
In the men’s competition, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, Oman and Bangladesh will be placed in the Elite pool.
Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Iran will compete in the Challenger pool.
After the teams complete their pool matches, the first crossover matches will be played amongst the bottom two teams of the elite pool and the top two teams in the challenger pool.
The winners of these two contests would play in the second phase of crossover matches, against the teams in third and fourth place of the elite pool. Finally the two top finishers of the elite pool would take on the winners of the second crossovers in the semi-finals.

The final three spots would go to the top finishing teams at the Asia Hockey5s World Cup Qualifier.
In the men’s competition Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland (Europe), Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria (Africa), USA, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica (Pan America) and Australia, New Zealand and Fiji (Oceania) have qualified for the World Cup alongside hosts Oman. The final three spots would go to the top finishing teams at the Asia Hockey5s World Cup Qualifier.
ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP): The 10th edition of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023 would run from November 29 to December 10 at the National Stadium Sports Park in Santiago, Chile.
The 16 teams in the hunt for the gold medal know their pools and the opponents that stand between them and the ultimate glory. The officials were set and ready to ensure a smooth-running and fairly contested tournament, said a press release.
All 16 teams that have qualified for the event were placed into their respective pools earlier this year, on June 22, at the official launch ceremony of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup Chile 2023.
This would be the third FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup to be played in the city, which has previously played host to the event in 2005 and 2016.
The World Cup would begin on November 29 with 12 teams in action on opening day! Pool B action, with Korea taking on Zimbabwe, will get the event underway.
High octane clashes between Netherlands and Australia, India and Canada, Argentina and Spain, Germany and Belgium would follow, before hosts Chile play the final match of the opening day against South Africa.
Hockey has shown itself to be greatly popular with the fans in Chile, which has been further enhanced by the great strides made by the Chilean women’s and men’s senior teams, with both making impressive debuts at the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup in 2022 and the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, respectively.
