Dengue tally reaches 137 cases in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Aug 26 (APP): The total tally of dengue in Rawalpindi had reached 137 cases with the arrival of six more patients during the last 24 hours.
Chief Executive Officer of District Health Authority Dr Ijaz Ahmad said that two of each patient had arrived from the Potohar town, Rawalpindi Cantonment and Municipal Corporation areas.
He informed that 120 patients had been discharged after recovery while 17 confirmed patients were admitted to the district’s health facilities. During the last 24 hours, Dr Ijaz said that the district administration had registered 71 FIRs, issued tickets to 13 premises, sealed 15 and imposed a fine of Rs 257,000 against the violations of dengue SOPs, he told.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema called upon the residents to keep an eye on junkyards, schools and under-construction buildings and remove water after rain to prevent the spread of dengue larvae breeding.
He said that special attention was being given to high-risk Union Councils and a comprehensive micro plan had been devised as per SOPs to eliminate larvae.
The DC said that staff deployed for the anti-dengue drive had been told that no negligence would be tolerated.

Rain in city; MD WASA issues high alert

MULTAN, Aug 26 (APP):Managing Director WASA Chaudhary Muhammad Danish issued high alert in WASA after heavy rain in the city here on Saturday afternoon.
Managing Director WASA directed sewerage, disposal station officials to remain alert.
He paid visit to various parts of the city along with director works Arif Abbas to check the drainage arrangements and inspected working of disposal stations.
Various disposal stations were run through generators due to electricity loadsheding.
Disposal station division ordered to keep standby generators operational and to mobilize teams and machinery into the field.
He directed to ensure drainage of rain water from metro routes and low lying areas.
MD WASA directed to run all disposal stations at full capacity and ensure complete drainage of rainwater in the field.
He ordered to remain into field till complete drainage of rain water and to follow SOPs for drainage of rain water from pond area.
Director works presented report to MD WASA as 69 millimetre rain was recorded at Chungi No 9 disposal station. 51 mm at old Shujabad road and 63 mm at Kari Jamandan disposal station.
MD WASA set up camp office at Chungi No 9 disposal station for monitoring of rain water. He directed officials to remain alert due to prediction of more rain.

FIA recovers huge quantity of foreign currency, nabs three accused

PESHAWAR, Aug 26 (APP):FIA Commercial Banking Circle Peshawar on Saturday arrested three suspects involved in the illegal exchange of money (hundi) and confiscated huge amount of foreign
On the direction of Deputy Director Afzal Niazi accused Izzatullah was arrested from Torkhum having 51,000  Qatari riyals and 49,000 Saudi riyals.
The arrest of the accused took place as a result of effective coordination between FIA Commercial Banking Circle Peshawar and FIA Immigration Torkhum.
In another operation, an accused Muhammad Mujahid was arrested from Nishtarabad area having 2800 US dollars, 1600 New Zealand dollars and 27,000 Pakistani rupees.
In a third operation, Shafiullah was arrested from Gambit, District Dir having 368000 Pakistani rupees.
The accused could not satisfy the valid reason of holding the recovered currency.
A number of receipts related to Hundi reference were also recovered from them.
FIA registered cases  against the accused under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act and started investigation.

British HC to make trade push on first visit to Karachi

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): The newly appointed British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, will visit Karachi ahead of the expected arrival of the Royal Navy’s HMS Lancaster.

During her visit, she will meet with business, political and community leaders, with a focus on boosting UK-Pakistan trade links. Bilateral trade is currently worth over £4 billion, nearly doubling in 3 years, said a press release issued by the British High Commission on Saturday.

The British High Commissioner will also visit HMS Lancaster in Karachi as part of routine bilateral Royal Navy-Pakistan Navy training exercise. These exercises are part of a range of ‘Defence Diplomacy’ activities, part of the UK’s commitment to maintaining its well-established defence relationship with Pakistan.

The High Commissioner said that Karachi was one of the best places in Pakistan to discuss business, the country’s beating heart and home to some of the country’s most pioneering industries. I am looking forward to hearing from UK and Pakistani businesses on how we can support each other’s ambitious trade goals, she expressed.
