On the occasion, First Lady Samina Alvi was also accompanied by the President.

PM directs NHA to restore Pinjra bridge in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Saturday directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to complete the reconstruction of the Pinjra bridge as soon as possible so that citizens travelling from Quetta to Jacobabad could be facilitated.

In a post on his X handle, he said work on the reconstruction of the Pinjra bridge was continuing at a fast pace.

In another positive development, he said an alternative concrete bridge was completed from which heavy traffic was passing.

DC, CPO visit flood-hit areas

MULTAN, Aug 26 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Omer Jahangir and City Police Officer (CPO) Mansoor-ul-Haq Rana visited flood-hit areas to review relief activities here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said that district administration would ensure all possible relief to the people of flood hit areas. He said that different flood relief camps have been set up in the area where free medicines and other facilities were being provided to masses. He directed officers concerned to shift people of the areas expected to be affected by flood at safe places.
The CPO said that police and district administration shifting people to safe places adding that all possible resources were being utilized to protect lives and properties of the masses. He directed SP Sadar division to monitor all relief activities and remain in field to facilitate people.
SP Sadar Division Sham Uddin, DSP Jalalpur Pirwala Bashir Ahmed Hiraj and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.

Massive Sweep: Over 300 drug dealers apprehended in Vehari

VEHARI, Aug 26 (APP):The District Police Officer (DPO) Esa Khan Sukhira announced a significant achievement in the fight against drugs as local police claimed to have arrested over 300 drug dealers during the last three months.
While talking to journalists, he informed that police also confiscated a staggering 528 kg of illegal substances worth millions of rupees from these criminals. The seized items include a substantial quantity of hashish, totaling more than 32 kg, along with 40 kg of opium and 34 kg of cannabis.
Additionally, the police successfully seized more than 20,000 liters of alcohol from 386 liquor vendors during the operation. Following the crackdown on drug dealers, the police have taken steps to rehabilitate drug addicts in the next phase of their efforts.
Under the “Journey from Addiction to Recovery and Employment” pilot project initiated in Sahuka, drug addicts found in various areas of Vehari district were transported to a rehabilitation center. The process was carried out in a dignified manner, and the individuals were provided with employment opportunities as part of their rehabilitation. The rehabilitation center, located at RHC Luddan already received 41 drug addicts. These individuals underwent grooming and health screening before receiving comprehensive treatment.
Furthermore, the rehabilitation center has also extended its support to individuals with HIV infections, offering them the necessary medical care.
He expressed his pride in providing not only decent accommodation but also meals, treatment, and grooming to these marginalized members of society. The Vehari Police, in collaboration with the District Administration, Social Welfare Department, and Private NGOs, is determined to transform these drug addicts into productive and respected citizens of society.

First female nurse earns PhD in Nursing Science

LAHORE, Aug 26 (APP):Nazia Ilyas, the first female nurse to obtain a PhD degree in Nursing Science, has etched her name in history across the province.
Former Principal Post-graduate College of Nursing Punjab, Ishrat Ishaq, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Nazia Ilyas over the achievement in a statement issued here on Saturday. She praised Nazia for illuminating the nursing field with her PhD in Nursing Science, asserting that her dedication and passion would serve as a guiding light for aspiring students.
Nazia Ilyas credited her success to the unwavering support and guidance of her parents and teachers. Nazia believes that highly educated nurses are poised to elevate the quality of healthcare services to unprecedented levels. Her PhD thesis was titled “Quality of Midwifery Care for Child Bearing Women at Basic Health Units in Rural Pakistan”, which she submitted to Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
Currently serving as Nursing Superintendent at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore, Nazia has previously held positions such as Principal in the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Fatima Jinnah Medical University and Nursing Superintendent at Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital. She has also contributed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Health Sciences, Lahore. Fellow nursing officers have joined in congratulating Nazia Ilyas on her momentous accomplishment.

NAB DG announces Rs440mn disbursement among housing scam affectees

LAHORE, Aug 26 (APP):NAB Lahore Director General  Amjad Majeed Aulakh held the third monthly open court which attracted a large number of housing sector affectees.
Affectees of Omega City Housing, Omega Residencia, Pak-Arab Housing Society, Model Housing Enclave, Fizaiya Housing Scheme, Formanites Housing Society, Metro City (Al Raheem Garden), Lahore Garden Housing scheme, Al-Rehman Garden, LDA Avenue-I, Maryam Garden, Elite Town Society and Ali Green Group narrated their ordeals to the NAB DG, who listened to them patiently and issued directives accordingly.
Talking to the affectees of the Pak Arab Housing Scheme, the DG cited court orders regarding the settlement of all claimants within six months, however, he said the NAB investigation team was working tirelessly to materialize it. “Initially, NAB Lahore has sold some properties owned by accused persons and recovered a handsome amount, whereas, a hefty amount is soon to be received from the accused,” he added.
He informed the affectees of Model Housing Enclave that the NAB had successfully recovered Rs440 million and disbursements would start soon. “The NAB has earlier recovered and gave away more than Rs2 billion to affectees.”
He asked the NAB team to expedite work on Metro City (Al-Rahim Garden) so that proceedings might be initiated over the claims. Talking to the affectees of Omega City case, he said that the layout plan/map of the scheme had been approved by departments concerned, however, the affectees were advised to pay remaining amounts and secure possession of their plots from society administration, otherwise, they could recover their amount from the society. In this regard, the NAB Lahore has already issued instructions to the society administration.
Addressing the participants, he said the NAB was working to function according to the mandate. He said that he was listening to every person appearing in open hearing and proper initiatives were taken to facilitate them. He said that two impersonators had been arrested by the NAB Lahore on a complaint received in the last month’s open hearing, who were handed over to police for investigations.
The NAB Lahore organizes open hearing (Khuli Ketchery) on the last Friday of every month in which the DG listens to every complainant himself and issues directives accordingly.

Interim CM rebukes labour dept officers, says to face the music over non-compliance of directives

KARACHI, Aug 26 (APP):Interim Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar on Saturday said that the Sindh Labour department has been guilty of negligence in the works of labourers welfare.
While issuing strict directives to the Labour department here, he said that Rs 21 billion were in the custody of Nazir of Sindh High Court (SHC) due to a case of the labourers welfare.
He said that the Labour department did not pursue the case in proper way and the aforesaid amount was stuck there.
He directed the Workers Welfare Board to renovate flats of the labourers in Maymar in four months and allot those to the labourers.
He further said that the Board should allot flats in Shaheed Benazirabad and Sukkur in 15 days to labourers.
The Interim CM said that the labour colonies were not established in proper locations and because of that those could not become inhabitable.
He said, ‘I will not tolerate any kind of lack of rights to the labourers.’
Baqar said that the business organizations have to pay five percent Workers Participant Fund to the labour department, which the department had failed to collect.
While expressing his displeasure over the performance of the Sindh Labour department and its Workers Welfare Board, the Interim CM said that he would review the directed measures and take strict action against the officers, it they failed to adhere to the directives.
He had also convened a meeting of the department next week.

Dengue surveillance underway in Lahore

LAHORE, Aug 26 (APP):The anti-dengue drive initiated by the district administration is in full swing under which surveillance is being carried out at various points in the provincial capital.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider on Saturday visited Bilal Ganj area, where she inspected anti-dengue arrangements and instructed house owners about dengue prevention. She inspected houses, empty plots and commercial markets of the area and assessed dengue larva elimination. She also checked the attendance and performance of the anti-dengue squad in the area.
Similarly, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Adnan Rasheed visited Union Council-10 Ravi Zone to inspect anti dengue arrangements at under-construction commercial buildings. He also reviewed dengue surveillance and issued warnings to various property owners over larva presence. He directed the dengue teams deputed in the area to gear up fumigation.
Assistant Commissioner City Wasiq Abbas Haral visited Shahdara to inspect anti dengue arrangements and directed to speed up the fumigation process. He also sealed an ice factory in the area over presence of dengue larva.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Raiwind inspected dengue surveillance in UC-122 Bahria Town and ordered to speed up dengue larva elimination and monitoring. Nine dengue patients were reported in the provincial capital during the last 24 hours while larva were found in 1,012 points.

Woman injured in roof collapse

SIALKOT, Aug 26 (APP):A woman was injured as the roof of her muddy house collapsed in Adaa-wala village, Daska, here today.
According to a rescue spokesperson, 48-year-old Rubina was injured as the roof of her house collapsed.
Rescuers took timely action and pulled out the injured woman from the debris, provided first aid and shifted her to a local hospital.

He further said that Two software giants specializing in asset finance and leasing solutions, NETSOL and ISBEI Technologies will demonstrate its expertise in the financial technology domain. In contrast, NBP would exhibit its banking and financial services, highlighting Pakistan’s robust financial sector and its commitment to digital banking solutions.

Qadir said that The Pakistani delegation’s participation in CIFTIS signifies a landmark moment in the nation’s journey towards becoming a prominent player in the global services trade arena. As the event unfolds, all eyes are on these pioneering companies as they take centre stage and contribute to Pakistan’s ongoing economic transformation, he hopes that CIFTIS will be a bridge between China and Pakistan to enhance trade and economic cooperation.
