Governor for constructing dams to overcome water scarcity

QUETTA, Aug 31 (APP): Governor Balochistan Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar on Thursday expressed concerns over depleting water levels in Balochistan, especially in Quetta, stressing the need for constructing dams.

The governor in a meeting with Managing Director WASA Abdul Lateef Rana who called on him emphasized the help and guidance of international organizations to overcome the issue.

“If immediate and timely measures are not taken to control the water shortage in the provincial capital, we may face a number of problems in the near future,” he maintained.

He further said, “It is sad that even in this advanced age, we are giving clean drinking water to trees and plants, while we do not have the ability to recycle the used water.”

Lauding the efforts of the water sanitation authority, the governor said “It is a good initiative that WASA is working on many small projects to recycle the used water which will yield positive results.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP):Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti on the directions of Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar on Thursday sought a briefing from provincial governments on the stoppage of smuggling of goods.
The minister was chairing a meeting regarding anti-smuggling measures here. Secretary Interior Abdullah Khan Sumbul, Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Mohsin Hassan Butt and officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), ministries and provincial offices participated in the meeting.
Minister Bugti stressed the need to make a comprehensive plan to curb the smuggling of fertilizers and sugar from the country.
The smuggling of necessary items including sugar and fertilizers from the country is burdening the economy, said the minister adding that the price hike due to the smuggling of goods is creating troubles for the common man.
He said cross-border smuggling of basic items of necessity will not be tolerated, adding that action may be initiated against those involved in illegal smuggling and their facilitators.
He directed for establishment of joint check posts and patrolling systems completely active and vigilant with the collaboration of federal and provincial departments.
Federal and provincial governments will work together to curb the smuggling of basic goods, said the minister adding that the border control system will have to be made more effective and inter-provincial movements will be strictly monitored.
A track and trace system will be installed on basic goods of necessity said the minister stressing upon the need to take special measures on the routes of smuggling along with the borders.
The minister directed to give priority to the needs of sugar and fertilizers for the KPK and Baluchistan province.
He stressed the need to make effective policies to provide ease to the common man and stoppage of smuggling.
He also directed the KPK and Baluchistan governments to present weekly reports on the actions against illegal smuggling which subsequently will be presented to the Prime Minster.

Religious scholars condemn blasphemous incidents, call for united action

ISLAMABAD, August 31 (APP): The religious scholars and leaders, in a unanimous resolution on Thursday, strongly condemned the recent incidents of disrespect towards the Holy Quran.

They, in a conference on ‘Honoring the Holy Quran from the Perspective of Religions and Sects’ organized by the Iranian Embassy here at a local hotel, vehemently denounced the recent blasphemous incidents endorsed by the governments of Sweden and Denmark as an attack on global peace and religious freedom.

The religious scholars and leaders said the derogatory actions against sacred religious symbols in the name of freedom of expression were deeply regrettable and violate the principles outlined in the United Nations Resolution 2686 concerning peace, tolerance, and security.

They urged for urgent and effective measures from the United Nations to address this issue promptly.

They also made a formal appeal to the government of Pakistan to convene an emergency session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and unite the Muslim ummah (community) to devise a comprehensive action plan on this matter.

“We believe in a path of knowledge and pride as a means to human excellence, condemning violence and fostering understanding. Hence, all proponents of humanity must play their part in countering this divisive agenda,” they maintained.

The religious scholars and leaders pledged to uphold the sanctity and reverence of the Holy Quran, utilizing all available resources to counter the assault on our beliefs.

They said the attack on religious freedom shall not succeed, as they were vigilant and steadfast in their efforts, united against such actions at all times.

In conclusion, they also condemned the Jaranwala tragedy in its all forms and manifestations and urged the government to bring the culprits to justice without any delay.

The conference was attended by a large number of Ulema, Mashaykh of all schools of thought, faith leaders and people of all walks of life and members of diplomatic communities.

‘Knock the Door’ campaign of Islamabad police in full swing

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP):The campaign of Islamabad police ‘Knock the Door’ is in full swing which is  aimed at registering domestic employees and tenants.
In adherence to the directives of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital Police has launched a comprehensive “Knock the Door” and this initiative is currently in full swing, police spokesperson said.
During this proactive campaign, dedicated teams from the Islamabad Capital Police are combing the streets, going door-to-door to facilitate the registration of both tenants and domestic workers.
 Simultaneously, they are addressing citizens’ concerns and inquiries.
Notably, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Islamabad has already compiled data on 131 house servants from 419 households within the jurisdiction of Sumbal Police Station during last 24 hours.
The primary objective behind this campaign is to bolster law and order in the federal capital, ensuring the prevention of untoward incidents. Registration of tenants and domestic workers not only enhances vigilance against potential wrongdoers but also serves as a deterrent to suspicious activities.
Citizens are urged to verify the identity of individuals visiting their homes for data collection, especially if they are in civilian attire.

Commissioner Larkana chairs meeting to review Chehlum security

LARKANA, Aug 31 (APP):Commissioner Larkana Division Ghanwar Ali Leghari Thursday said that full-proof security arrangements should be made during Chehlum and the security of the mourning processions should be ensured in any case.
This he said while presiding over a high level meeting held at committee room of his office, on Thursday, regarding law & order and security arrangements for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) falling on September 01, 2023.
Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and other officials concerned of various departments to complete the arrangements for the Chehlum so that the mourners could be provided clean and secure environment.
He said that all the available resources would be utilized to maintain peace during Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and no one would be allowed to disturb the peace of the division at all costs.
He also said that security would be strict in these days, in this regard; Police officers along with Rangers officials will increase the patrolling to face any untoward incident.
Commissioner said that strict steps would be taken against the terrorists and anti-social elements besides making the Traffic system better. Police parties will stay on alert during the process while the security measures must be taken in the Imambargah’s, Maderssas, mosques and Majlis places, he directed the police officers.
Leghari also asked DC’s that they should be punctual to the Municipal authorities and TMA officials to make better the cleanliness, light system, and drainage system in the cities and towns and villages, and wires of electricity would be up and also punctual to the SSGC officers for making better the leakage pipeline as none any incident occurs by leakage in the gas pipelines, he added.
He said that the Code of Conduct and Loudspeaker Act given by the government should be implemented at any cost.
Apart from this, control rooms should also be set up in the deputy commissioner’s office and the assistant commissioner’s office at the taluka level to work 24 hours a day.
He said that patrolling should be increased on internal and external roads and we should all work together as a team so that Chehlum procesion passes smoothly.
Commissioner also directed health officers including MS’s and DHO’s to be punctual during Chehlum and medicine will be made available for provision of the first aid to the Azadars, and increase the ambulance patrolling, Taluka Hospitals, Basic
Health Units and Dispensary staff must be present and alert during the Chehlum for 24 hours regularly, he added.
He also directed the Deputy Commissioners will hold meetings in the Taluka’s with NGO’s, Scouts, Saints, Ulema’s and others to take steps to make peace and tranquility in the area.
On this occasion, all the stakeholders assured their full cooperation.
In the meeting DIG Police Larkana Range Abdul Hameed Khoso, Wing Commander Shahbaz Rangers Larkana, Deputy Commissioner Larkana, SSP Larkana, while Deputy Commissioners and SSP’s of Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandkot, Kamber-Shahdadkot participated in the meeting through video link. Besides, Mayor LMC Ali Anwar Nawaz Lohar, Chairman District Council Larkana Aijaz Ali Leghari, officers of various departments attended the meeting.

Commissioner directs to intensify crackdown against quacks

RAWALPINDI, Aug 31 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaqat Ali Chatha on Thursday said that a special team in collaboration with the Health Care Commission had been formed to intensify the crackdown against quacks in the city.
Presiding over a meeting here at his office, he said that the provision of the best health facilities to people was the priority of the government and no one would be allowed to play with public health.
Liaqat said that a team comprising Assistant Commissioner City Zunaira Khan, Deputy District Health Officer Hussain Shah and Tahir Tarar from Punjab Health Care would take action against the quacks.
He directed the team to intensify the crackdown against quacks who did not have a proper degree from PMDC.
“Team will seal such premises used for quackery, confiscate equipment and FIR to be registered”, he added.
Liaqat Ali Chatha further directed the team to seal private hospitals and labs that were not reporting dengue cases.
He said that during the peak season of dengue, no negligence was acceptable in this regard.
Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Syed Nazarat Ali, Chief Executive Officer Health Dr Ejaz, Additional Director Health Care Commission Dr Farooq, Dr Rafiq and other concerned officers participated in the meeting.

SMBBMU holds maiden Oral Health Research Conference

LARKANA, Aug 31 (APP):As many as 17 students from Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) Larkana presented their research papers at the maiden Oral Health Research Conference here on Thursday.
Vice Chancellor SMBBMU Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah appreciated the students who participated in the conference, saying research should be the first priority as it creates new knowledge.
Professor Shah said that the university will ensure the publication of research papers in international journals, and the students whose research papers will be published in international journals will be given fifty thousand cash prize by the university.
Principal Chandka Medical College Prof. Dr. Zameer Ahmad Soomro congratulated the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) team for research on all fronts and the main work of the university.
Director of Research and ORIC Dr. Mir Hassan Khoso said we have proved that our students are not less than any other university in the world by organizing a research poster competition and now in the research conference.
The first position was won by Yahya, the second position was won by Batul Khavor and Mehboob. While the third position was won by Muhammad Shoaib, Rizwan, Ali Ilyas, and Dr. Gruwor. The winning students were given awards and certificates along with a cash prize of ten thousand each by the Vice Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor SMBBMU also announced a cash prize of five thousand to all the students who presented their research papers at the research conference.

280th Urs celebration of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai to commence on Friday

HYDERABAD, Aug 31 (APP):The arrangements for the 280th Urs Mubarak of Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai have been completed, Governor Sindh Muhammad Kamran Tesori will inaugurate the three-day Urs Mubarak celebrations by placing a wreath at the shrine on Friday while caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Retd.) Maqbool Baqir will participate in the closing ceremonies.
According to an official handout, Urs Mubarak celebrations were being held after a gap of three years due to covid pandemic and flood situation.
Deputy Commissioner Matiari Syed Jawad Muzaffar issued instructions to all the departments to make all necessary arrangements for clean drinking water, sanitation and medical facilities for the devotees and to deal with any possible untoward situation and Assistant Commissioner Hala, Dr. Mazhar Ali has been designated Focal Person for Urs celebrations while Additional Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Laghari will supervise the arrangements during three days
of Urs.
On the other hand district administration has imposed a ban on the display of weapons by enforcing Section 144 in town for the protection of devotees, who will participate across the country, 52 closed-circuit cameras and 08 walkthrough gates have been installed around the shrine to keep a strict watch on anti-peace elements.
Bhit Shah town was divided into three sectors and as many as 2561 police personnel will be deployed under the leadership of SSP Matiari Muhammad Kaleem, ladies police officers have also been assigned duties along with male police officers for a comprehensive search of those who entered in shrine.
According to officials, police officers from other districts will also be deputed there, while officers from special branches and law enforcement agencies will also be deployed there.
The District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Nazir Malah said the holidays of doctors and para-medical staff were canceled,
while 30 ambulances will remain available at Bhit Shah and national highway to deal with any emergency situation.
The Culture Department will organize the traditional Kachahri of ‘Sughars’ on the first day of Urs and Latif Adabi Conference and other programs will be held on the second day in which renowned researchers, writers and intellectuals will present research papers on the philosophy and teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

Arbitration Law Review Committee holds 2nd meeting

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP): Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chairman of the Arbitration Law Review Committee Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah Thursday convened the second meeting of the committee.

Senior lawyers Muhammad Makhdoom Ali Khan and Feisal Hussain Naqvi, Secretary of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan Riffat Inam Butt, AS/EDGII, Board of Investment, Islamabad Muhammad Khashih-ur-Rehman; Senior Legislative Advisor of Ministry of Law and Justice Ambreen Abbasi attended the meeting.

Presenting the first draft of “Arbitration Act, 2023”, Feisal Hussain Naqvi gave an overview of the proposed legislation and illuminated the committee in detail about the rationale behind each new clause being suggested referring to the international experiences and best practices.

The committee unanimously agreed to the proposal of adding experts in the body to augment the law reform process benefiting from their experience.

Barrister Mian Sami Uddin, and Zafar Iqbal Khokhar, Research Officer, Research Centre Supreme Court of Pakistan, were co-opted as members of the committee.

The committee appreciated the draft legislation presented and unanimously agreed to seek feedback from the members to initiate a consultative process to establish an efficient, expert and enforceable arbitration mechanism in Pakistan.

Minister announces plans to seek support from WHO, UNICEF for day-care centres up-gradation

During a visit to a day-care center for healthcare department employees here on Thursday, he stressed the importance of modernizing these facilities to meet international standards. The goal is to enhance maternal and child health, promote breastfeeding, ensure child nutrition, facilitate vaccinations, and provide family planning services.
Dr. Nasir also highlighted the declining breastfeeding trend among working mothers due to job commitments and advocated for breastfeeding corners at workplaces. He interacted with children during his visit, showing his dedication to their well-being and directing officials to enhance day-care center facilities.
