Three arrested; liquor, stolen motorcycles seized

SARGODHA, Sep 02 (APP):The district police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three accused and recovered liquor and stolen motorcycles from them.
According to a press release issued by the DPO office, Laksian police caught Ghulam Shabbir and Boota with 150 litre liquor. Mid Ranja police arrested Taswar and seized three stolen motorcycles. The accused was wanted in dozens cases of theft and robbery cases.

GILGIT, Sep 02 (APP):In a statement issued by the Home Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, it has been clarified that the situation in Gilgit-Baltistan is completely peaceful and the news and speculations circulating in the media regarding the deployment of the Pakistan Army are baseless.
All communication roads, trade and business centers and educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan are open as usual.
The services of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces have been procured to maintain peace and order at Chehlam Imam Hussain, along with this, special measures have been taken for the security of the procession routes and Imambargahs like in the past.
The Interior Department further said that Section 144 has been imposed across the province to maintain the law and order situation, protect the life and property of the people, and avoid any untoward incident.

Al-Khidmat Foundation’s woman wing organizes free medical camp

HYDERABAD, Sep 02 (APP):The Al-Khidmat Foundation’s woman wing organized a one-day free medical camp on Saturday, in an effort to address the lack of medical facilities for women and children of Kachi Abadi area of Unit no. 10, Latifabad, Hyderabad. Senior doctors, general physicians and gynecologists conducted over 250 free medical examinations and provided free medicines to women and children.
According to a press release, Representative of Al-Khidmat Foundation Woman Wing Farah Naz said women and children lives in “Kachi abadi” areas were facing unavailability of proper medical facilities and the fees of private doctors were often beyond the reach of these individuals,  therefore, keeping their difficulties in mind, the Al-Khidmat foundation woman wing organized a one-day free medical camp in village Bachal Laghari of Latifabad unit no.10.
She further stated that a “Sasta bazaar” will also be organized at the residence of Uzma Nehal near crescent School, Latifabad no. 2, on Sunday, which will offer affordable food items and daily necessities. She hoped that many underprivileged individuals will take benefit from this bazaar.

MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 02 (APP):In a concerted effort to combat the escalating threat of drug addiction among the youth, the police department and Sardar Koray Khan School jointly organized a seminar, here on Saturday. The event was chaired by Commissioner Salman Khan Lodhi and attended by teachers, civil society activists, students and people from different walks of life.
Deputy Commissioner Lodhi addressing the seminar, emphasized the peril of drug addiction on future generations. He stated that people from all walks of life must unite in the battle against drugs, not only to monitor their children but also to shield them from the influences that lead to addiction.
Quoting a reference from an international organization’s report, he revealed alarming figures – a staggering 280 million individuals worldwide had succumbed to drug use by 2022, with almost 7 million in Pakistan alone, predominantly comprising youth.
Deputy Commissioner Lodhi urged collective involvement to counter this crisis and revealed the establishment of a dedicated center for drug addicts at DHQ Hospital, equipped with four expert doctors.
DPO Syed Hasnain Haider also addressed the audience, underscoring the police force’s pivotal role in the anti-drug campaign. He called on all sections of society to identify the individuals responsible for drug proliferation and safeguard the community.
Haider asserted that drug addiction had now become a deadly trend and implored students to cherish their parents’ dreams and protect themselves and their friends from this curse.
Principal Tahir Bashir of Koray Khan School shed light on the concerning infiltration of drugs into educational institutions and stressed the need for awareness and stringent legislation. Umm Kulsoom Syal, a representative from civil society, lauded the police department’s efforts and declared this campaign a crucial mission for the entire district. She encouraged similar seminars in colleges to combat this menace effectively.

MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 02 (APP):In a moment of groundbreaking triumph, known transgender Shahana Abbas Shani, hailing from Muzaffargarh, etched her name into history by securing an illustrious Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) license.
Her relentless pursuit of this license was fueled by an unyielding ambition for a livelihood steeped in dignity and respect.
Shahana’s journey to obtain her HTV license was not without challenges. When she first walked into the driving school, she faced mockery and skepticism. Many assumed she was there to beg, just like other transgenders. However, Shahana’s unwavering determination caught the attention of a kind-hearted individual who supported her quest to learn driving.
Shahana Abbas Shani shared her dual objectives for obtaining the HTV license. Firstly, she aims to earn a respectable livelihood for herself, breaking down stereotypes and barriers along the way, she informed.
Secondly, she aspires to pass on her driving skills to other transgender individuals, enabling them to seek employment opportunities abroad and gain the respect they rightfully deserve.

Iconic lyricist Ahmad Rahi remembered on 21st death anniversary

ISLAMABAD, Sep 2 (APP): Renowned poet and lyricist Ahmad Rahi was remembered on his 21st death anniversary on Saturday to pay glowing tributes for his unforgettable services in the entertainment industry.
Rahi was born on Nov 12, 1923 in Amritsar and his real name was Ghulam Ahmad. He completed his primary education from Amritsar, India in 1940.

After completing his high school, he got admission in the MAO College, Lahore but was expelled for participating in political movements, a private news channel reported.

He joined his father’s business after being expelled from the college.
Rahi migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and joined the magazine Sawera as its editor in Lahore. He was considered a true pioneer of his craft.

Throughout his career, Rahi wrote almost 2,000 songs in Punjabi and Urdu, during the golden era of Lollywood.

Rahi started his career as a lyricist with the film Baili, based on the bloodshed that occurred during partition. The film was written by Manto and featured four songs penned by Rahi.

As a lyricist, Rahi penned songs for multiple Lollywood super-hits including Heer Ranjha, Yaky Wali, Aik Matyar, Mahi Munda, Shoo Mantar, Rishta, Mirza Jat, Sassi Pannu and Niki Jai Haan.

Film songs written by him for films Heer Ranjha (1970), Mirza Jat (1967), Baji (1963) and Yakke Wali (1957) became super-hits in Pakistan. He was a close friend of renowned short-story writer Saadat Hasan Manto and film producer and poet Saifuddin Saif.

All the three friends played key roles in the early years of Pakistan film industry in Lahore.
Rahi wrote songs for a total of 51 films; 9 films in Urdu language and 42 movies in Punjabi language.
He died on Sept 2, 2002 in Lahore at the age of 79.

“Sughar Kachehri” held on occasion of Shah Bhitai’s Urs

Combating environmental degradation through attracting youth towards green infrastructure management

PESHAWAR, Sep 02 (APP): Green Urban Development (GUD), an inspiring initiative with a focus on a life cycle approach to sustainable urban development, is striving to achieve its goal by enhancing capacity among multiple stakeholders especially the burgeoning population of the country’s youth towards green infrastructure management.
Actors from various segments of lives life including government institutions, policymakers, students, media, private sector, and civil society working on urban environmental and climate-related issues are brought together under the platform of GUD in a co-creation space to discuss and work together on issues pertaining to urban development with a focus on water, waste and green entrepreneurship.
“Launched with collaboration between Institute of Urbanization (IoU), School of Leadership Foundation and US Embassy, the programme is working to enhance knowledge of young people through action research and incubation of green ideas to business cases, leading to green entrepreneurship,” says Ayesha Majid, Program Coordinator IoU.
In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, Ayesha said while realizing alarming levels of environmental degradation as according to a report published by the International Trade Administration, Pakistan’s waste crisis looms large, with approximately 48.5 million tons of solid waste generated annually, its time of taking action by people from all walks of life.
In this regard, initiatives with a focus on empowering youth with knowledge and skills of green infrastructure management will help a lot in containing issues causing environmental degradation, the statement added
Green Urban Development has been established in public sector varsities under the government-led Green Youth Movement Clubs to train university students on green skills in two years and produce action research with technical and financial support to startups on ecological innovation in areas of water, waste and green infrastructure.
The project will consist of three phases with a duration of three months with the first one as a study phase including classroom style capacity building sessions, exposure visits to institutions and sites that display practical and innovative green projects on water conservation, waste management and green infrastructure.
In the second phase, a call will be announced for GUDS participants to submit proposals for piloting action research within a chosen community. Based on the set evaluation criteria, the selection panel will shortlist proposals for the Action Research Phase.
In the third phase, the most practical and effective project from the Action Research Phase will be given a grant to further work on the research and convert the idea into business and also establish market linkages.
Apart from youngsters, actors from various government institutions, policymakers, media, private sector and civil society working on urban environmental and climate-related issues will also be brought together in a co-creation space to discuss and work together on issues pertaining to urban development with a focus on water, waste and green infrastructure management.
The initiative of GUD is a stepping stone towards a brighter future, providing young people with the tools and impetus to spearhead tangible changes that enhance the environment’s cleanliness and waste management, she remarked.

Rescue 1122 provided services to 5,144 people in Aug

SARGODHA, Sep 02 (APP):The Punjab Emergency Service provided medical assistance to 5,144 people with a 9.6-minute average response time during August.
This was stated by District Emergency Officer Mazhar Shah while reviewing the monthly performance of Rescue 1122 here on Saturday. He said that Rescue 1122 had responded to 1,003 road emergencies, 4,026 medical, 134 crimes, five drownings, four building collapses, 562 miscellaneous, 45 emergencies of fire while first aid was also provided to 1,715 people on the spot, he added.

Caretaker Minister calls on PM Kakar

ISLAMABAD, Sep 02 (APP): Caretaker Minister for National Heritage and Culture Jamal Shah on Saturday called on Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

During the meeting, the minister apprised the prime minister of the matters pertaining to his ministry, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Proposed measures to promote Pakistani art and culture were also discussed during the meeting.
