British High Commissioner calls on Air Chief

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP): British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott on Thursday called on Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in a highly significant meeting held at Air Headquarters.

The discussion focused on key areas of mutual interest, with a special emphasis on the contemporary geo-political situation and emerging regional security challenges. High ranking military dignitaries from British Armed Forces were also present during the meeting, a Pakistan Air Force news release said.

The Air Chief accentuated the cordial relations that exist between the two nations while emphasizing his steadfast determination to elevate the existing synergistic partnership between the two key allies.

He briefed the British High Commissioner on the PAF’s ongoing modernization efforts and highlighted the significant progress made in recent years. Chief of the Air Staff also reiterated PAF’s commitment to developing indigenous solutions to meet its operational requirements.

Highlighting the historic partnership between the two nations, the Air Chief further said, “The existing global security scenario coupled with the evolving dynamics of air warfare calls for an enhanced partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. Both the countries share strong strategic and historical bonds, firmly rooted in mutual consensus on all important issues of regional peace and stability.”

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott commended Pakistan Air Force for its dedication to modernization and its focus on indigenization under the current leadership.

Recognizing the achievements of Pakistan Air Force and the latest advancements in training and infrastructure development, she expressed admiration for PAF’s efforts in enhancing its defence capabilities.

She also assured to play her role to further enhance the existing cooperation in the training domain so as to ensure a highest degree of training for PAF personnel, enabling them to meet the evolving challenges of modern warfare.

Both sides concurred to further optimize the existing military ties between the two countries, with a specific focus on emerging technologies and strengthening operational competencies.

The dignitaries also discussed the potential for joint military training exercises and exchange programs with an aim to facilitate the exchange of expertise, enhance interoperability and foster closer ties between Pakistan Air Force and Royal Air Force.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to explore avenues for sustained cooperation in the defence aviation sector. This high-profile meeting stands as a testament to the commitment of the United Kingdom and Pakistan in upholding the aim of a safer and stable region.

Islamabad Police arrest 11 outlaws

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):Islamabad police have intensified their crackdown on criminals, arresting 11 outlaws, including four professional beggars, in the last 24 hours.
The arrests were made in different areas of the city, including Kohsar, Tarnol, Shams Colony, Phulgran, Shahzad Town, and Khanna police station limits.
The police also recovered weapons and ammunition from the possession of the arrested accused. The accused have been identified as Sajjad Masih, Shamir, Dawood, Umar Khan, Najeeb, Hamza Khalid, Yashwa Masih, and four others.
The police said that the crackdown against criminals was part of a special operation launched by the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan to ensure the safety of the lives and property of citizens.
The ICCPO has directed all senior officials to take effective measures to curb crime in the city.
He asked the public to cooperate with the police by providing information about any suspicious activity.
The arrest of 11 outlaws was a major success for the Islamabad police and a sign that the crackdown against criminals was having a positive impact.
The police are committed to making Islamabad a safe city for everyone.

World Bank delegation calls on IT minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):World Bank delegation led by its Country Director for Pakistan, Najy Benhassine called on Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif here on Thursday.
The minister welcomed the delegation on arrival at Ministry of IT and matters of bilateral interest and ‘Digital Economy Enhancement Project’ were discussed.
Dr. Umar Saif said that the project will be helpful in the provision of online services to the masses at one platform.
He said during the last few years both federation and provinces saw great work done regarding digitalization,  but all the systems were not linked; now due to this project, all government systems will be linked and digitally-enabled public services delivery to be through one platform.
It will be very easy for citizens to get domicile, NOC, birth certificate, vehicle registration and other online services in smooth and rapid manner, he added.
The project will also be helpful in increasing the tax net, he maintained.
Secretary IT Hassan Nasir Jamy and senior officers of the Ministry of IT were also present at the meeting.

Tarar wants new schemes for NHA

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Federal Minister for Communications and Railways Shahid Ashraf Tarar wants to focus on undertaking new schemes to increase the revenue level of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The minister presided over the 44th meeting of the National Highway Council (Supreme body of NHA), held here at the ministry on Thursday.

Federal Secretary Communications/Chairman National Highway Authority Capt (R) Muhammad Khurram Agha, and high-ups from the Finance Division, Planning & Development Division, Highway Construction Expert, Financial Professionals and the senior officers of the Ministry of Communications and National Highway Authority were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the meeting, the minister stressed to focus on undertaking new various schemes to increase the revenue level of the Authority at large.

He directed to launch of a comprehensive media campaign for the implementation of hiked violation fines on Motorways and National Highways across the country.

He further asked to gear up the pace of work on the construction of residential apartments for NHA employees.

Tarar desired to improve the maintenance affairs of Motorways and National Highways and that maximum travelling and civic amenities on service and rest areas be ensured for ease of the travellers.

He also emphasized the beautification of Motorways loops that would ultimately improve environmental conditions and will be a practical step forward towards achieving an environmentally friendly roads network in the country.
Chairman NHA also gave a detailed briefing regarding the functioning, scope, financial and administrative affairs of NHA.

CTD arrests banned outfit’s militant in Sukkur

Police arrested
SUKKUR, Sep 07 (APP):The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested a militant associated with a banned outfit wanted in high-profile terrorism cases in Sukkur.
According to the CTD spokesman on Thursday, the terrorist identified as Farooq Shah was head of the banned outfit’s provincial student wing and he was wanted in seven high-profile terrorism cases.
The CTD officials said that the name of the arrested terrorist was also included in the Red Book as he was involved in several abduction cases. Spokesman CTD further said one pistol and several bullets have been recovered from the accused and further investigation was underway.

Election Commission briefed with live demo of Result Compilation System

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) received a briefing on the operation of the Result Compilation System and witnessed a live demonstration of its functionality.
During the briefing and live demonstrations, the  IT Secretary, and  NADRA team shared their feedback on the system.
The notable participants in the briefing included the Secretary of the Election Commission, an Advisor, Special Secretary, the Head of the Project Management Unit, and other officials.
Furthermore, the commission was updated on ongoing constituency-related tasks, including the successful training of Constituency Committees, seat allocation for the National and Provincial Assemblies by district, and the commencement of committee activities.

Eight held during crackdown against outlaws in Taxila

WAH CANTT, Sep 07 (APP):Police in different raids on Thursday arrested eight outlaws involved in illegal activities and also recovered narcotics, and liquor from their possession.
According to police, during a crackdown, police arrested as many as eight outlaws including two proclaimed offenders wanted in two different cases.
Sub-divisional Police Officer said that Wah Saddar Police raided two different drug dens of Danish and Shahbaz and recovered 1.20 and 1.50 kilograms of hashish from their dens respectively.
In another raid, Wah Cantonment police booked Jaffar Hussain and Zeeshan and recovered 1.16 kilograms of hashish and 20 litres of liquor.
Taxila Police raided the dens of Abdul Hadi and Jamshaid and recovered 40 and 15 litres of liquor.
He further said that Taxila Police arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case.
Police unveiled details that Atif along with his other cohort killed Abdul Basit over old enmity in Khurrun Gujjar area.
The police have also arrested another proclaimed offender identified as Anas Iqbal wanted in a cheque dishonor case.

Pakistan Foundational Learning Hub launched

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): The Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training on Thursday launched the Pakistan Foundational Learning (PFL) Hub with an aim to drive systemic improvements in foundational learning in Pakistan.

The PFL Hub would become a “keystone” in Pakistan’s Learning Movement, working with all partners to enable quality learning opportunities for all by providing evidence-based strategies and support to policymakers across Pakistan to make tangible improvements in foundational learning, said a press release.

The PFL Hub has been set up with the support of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the World Bank.

The launch was attended by the Interim Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi, Federal Secretary of Education Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott and a range of key educational leaders including provincial ministers and secretaries of education, civil society and development partners.

“Foundational learning is the right of all children. As Federal Minister of Education, I am committed to ensuring that all children will enjoy their right to a quality education, and the PFL Hub, within the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, will help Pakistan to achieve this mission,” the minister said.

“Together we want to create a Learning Movement in Pakistan. The PFL Hub will be a key contribution to this effort, working with all provinces and key partners to drive learning improvements across the country,” said Federal Secretary of Education Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry.

Spurious drugs recovered at Mardan

PESHAWAR, Sep 07 (APP):On the directives of Secretary Health, Mahmood Aslam, a team of Directorate General Drug Control and Pharmacy Services Mardan raided a medicine gowdown in Shergarh Bazar Mardan and recovered a huge quantity of spurious drugs.
The recovered drugs include Azomax, Duphaston, Mooze, Magnett and Cefiget, all famous known national brands.
A case has been registered and investigations are initiated under Drug Act 1976.
Secretary Health said that raids would continue and no leniency would be shown against sellers and distributors of spurious drugs.

RPO reviews Chehlum security arrangements

MULTAN, Sep 07 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt (R) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhary and Commissioner Multan Division Engineer Aamir Khattak reviewed the security arrangements of the main procession regarding Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) at Hussain Agahi chowk.
He said cops have been deployed en route to the procession to ensure the safety of the mourners.
Commissioner Multan Division Engineer Amir Khattak said that the police and administration have jointly ensured security arrangements.
He directed officials not to allow anyone to join the procession without checking and searching through metal detectors.
