Sikhs protest at UN HQ against India over Khalistan leader’s murder
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP: Hundreds of Sikh community representatives gathered in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York to condemn the murder of the Khalistan leader in Canada and press their demand for Khalistan as an independent Sikh homeland.
The protest was held a week after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told parliament that his government had seen “credible allegations” that India was responsible for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Canadian Sikh leader.
The demonstrators chanted slogans to condemn the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called for punishing the perpetrators of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder.
The protest demonstration was arranged by a representative body Sikh Youth of America.
The decades-old Khalistan movement got a new momentum after the revelations by Trudeau erupting Sikh community’s protests before the Indian diplomatic missions and other important landmarks across the globe.
“Breaking News – India is killing Sikhs; India is responsible for terrorism in Canada; Wanted Modi Hindu Terrorist; India Committed Genocide of Sikhs; India Quit Punjab; and Free Punjab End Indian Occupation” were among the few slogans inscribed on the placards held by the protestors.
The turban-clad protestors also held yellow flags marked with the word “Khalistan” and stepped on the Indian flag to vent their hatred against the country accused of the persecution of minorities.
The protestors chanted slogans like “Ab Raaj Kare Ga- Khalistan (Now Khalistan will rule); What We Want- Khalistan; Who is Killer – Indian Modi; Nijjar Tera Qatil Kon (Nijjar Who is Your Killer) – Hindustan Hindustan; and Death to Killer of Nijjar.
Punjab Bane Ga Khalistan; Haryana Bane Ga Khalistan; Rajasthan Bane Ga Khalistan; UP Bane Ga Khalistan; and Himachal Bane Ga Khalistan were also the slogans chanted by the protestors.
The placards were also marked with images of Sikh leaders murdered by the Indian government in different countries.

Holy Prophet’s life beacon of light for entire humanity, AJK President.
MIRPUR ( AJK): Sep 28 (APP) :: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Muhammad Chaudhry has said that Rabi’ul Awwal is the blessed month in the Islamic calendar as it marks the birth of the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In his message issued on Thursday on the auspicious occasion of Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (PBUH), the President said that the prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) came to the world at a time when entire humanity was immersed in the darkness of ignorance and disbelief.
“It was the time when bloodshed and violence, deceit and deception, iniquity and immorality reigned supreme over every aspect of human life”, he said, adding that the Prophet, who was sent as mercy for humanity, illuminated the whole world with his knowledge, spread the message of peace and brotherhood and pulled the humanity out from the abyss of darkness.
He said that the prophet’s life is the beacon of light for entire humanity.
In his separate message, the AJK premier Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, said that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the true benefactor of mankind, who gave back to humanity its lost dignity and guided it to the righteous path.
He said that the prophet Muhammad (SAW) was a great role model for humankind in every field of life.
He said that the salvation of mankind, here and the hereafter, lies in pursuing the life of the prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Terming Islam as a religion of peace, he said that Islam teaches us self-sacrificing and generosity towards others.
“Our Muslim brothers and sisters in Occupied Kashmir, Palestine and other regions of the world are rekindling the candle of Islam by sacrificing their blood for the exaltation of Islam, their survival and freedom”, he said, adding that the supreme sacrifices rendered by our brethren would never go in vain.
The people of Kashmir, he said, have been scripting a new history by following the golden principles of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).
IHC seeks comments in plea against ban on cryptocurrency
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from taking action against people involved in the business of cryptocurrency and sought comments from respondents including the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the case against the circular of SBP to stop the business of cryptocurrency.
The petitioner had also named the federation, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and FIA in the case.
The petitioner’s lawyer Chaudhry Ali Abbas adopted the stance that the SBP had banned the business of cryptocurrency which had affected the common people. He prayed the court to declare the circular issued by SBP in this regard as against the law.
The court served notices to respondents and adjourned the case.
IHC rejects apology of DC ICT in Shehryar Afridi arrest case
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday rejected the unconditional apology of Deputy Commissioner ICT Irfan Memon in a contempt case against him and others pertaining to the issuance of MPO orders for the arrest PTI’s leader Shehryar Afridi.
The court instructed the prosecution to prepare a schedule of further proceedings in the case.
IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar heard the case wherein DC Irfan Memon, SSP Operations Jameel Zafar and others also appeared.
At the outset of hearing, Irfand Memon extended unconditional apology before the bench.
To this, the bench expressed annoyance with him and said that why not a show-cause notice should be served to him as he was approaching the judge through family and friends. He said that he assured that he never tried to make any approach.
The court rejected the unconditional apology of the Deputy Commissioner and said that the apology with such conduct wouldn’t benefit him. It said that the case would be heard as per the law and asked the respondents to focus on the legal points of the case.
Finance Minister underscore’s mismanagement of SoEs
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): Caretaker Minister of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Division, Dr Shamshad Akhtar on Thursday underscored that the mismanagement of the State-owned Enterprises (SoEs) due to status quo cannot be allowed to continue and dividends have to be improved through enhanced efficiency.
The Finance Minister said that the Cabinet Committee on State-owned Enterprises and the Central Monitoring Unit have to play a major role in ensuring the business plans of the SOEs are in line with the sectoral priorities, said a press release issued here.
The meeting of the Cabinet Committee of State-owned Enterprises (CCoSOE) was held at the Finance Division today under the chair esteemed leadership of the Caretaker Minister of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Division, Dr Shamshad Akhtar.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Privatization Fawad Hassan Fawad, Minister for Communication, Maritime, and Railways, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Minister for Power and Petroleum, Muhammad Ali, Advisor to the PM on Finance, Dr. Waqar Masood, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission Jahanzaib Khan, Chairman, Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Federal Secretaries and other senior officers of the relevant ministries.
The principal agenda of the meeting was to conduct a comprehensive review and finalization of the State-Owned Enterprises Policy 2023, a landmark initiative aimed at reforming and revitalizing Pakistan’s state-owned enterprises.
The Cabinet Committee engaged in constructive discussions, reviewing key elements of the policy in light of suggestions from the previous meetings, including governance structures, performance, and accountability mechanisms.
In the meeting, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar stated that the State-Owned Enterprises Policy 2023 represents a critical step towards restructuring and modernizing our state-owned enterprises and economy.
“Our objective is to reduce the size of SOEs in the public sector as well as to make those that remain in the Public Sector to be more competitive, accountable, and responsive to the needs of our citizens. This policy will pave the way for more
efficient utilization of public resources and will enhance the overall economic landscape of Pakistan” she said.
The finance minister underlined that the inconsistencies, contradictions, and ambiguities in the relevant laws and rules have to be corrected to improve corporate governance in the SOEs.
She said that the code of conduct for Boards of Governance in the SoEs has to be formulated and implemented in letter and spirit. The Finance Minister also emphasized the importance of enhanced scrutiny of the “fit and proper criterion” by the regulators.
Minister Shamshad extended appreciation to members of the Committee for their contributions and commitment to the formalization and finalization of this transformative policy initiative. The final draft of the State-Owned
Enterprises Policy 2023 would be presented to the federal cabinet for endorsement.
