10th meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice issues joint statement

BEIJING, Sept 6 (APP): A joint statement has been issued at the 10th Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Ministers of Justice, which was held in Shanghai, China on September 5-6.

The ministers of justice of member states agreed that ensuring the rule of law, on the basis of the principle of respecting and safeguarding human rights in all fields of social, political and economic life, is an important factor for the stable, sustainable and successful development of SCO member states, CGTN reported.

Stressing the importance of cooperation in the legal and judicial fields of the SCO, justice ministers vowed to continue to carry out the activities of expert working groups on judicial expertise and legal services.

During the meeting, China’s Ministry of Justice signed annual bilateral cooperation framework documents with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, clarifying the specific content and form of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of rule of law.

PM for widening tax net, swift privatisation of loss-making SOEs

ISLAMABAD, Sep 06 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday, reiterating his government’s priority to widen the tax net, instructed all the relevant departments to work collectively for bringing in tax reforms.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting to discuss the matters pertaining to the Federal Board of Revenue and Privatisation Division, emphasised the need to improve coordination between federal and provincial governments to carry out tax documentation.

He said that the FBR was an important component of the government machinery.

He instructed the authorities concerned to fulfill the legal obligations to accelerate the privatisation of loss-making state-owned enterprises and asked all the federal ministries to cooperate with the Privatisation Division.

In the briefing, the prime minister was told that the FBR was determined to achieve the tax collection target of Rs9415 billion. The Board has collected Rs 538 billion in July this year against the target of Rs534 billion. In August, the tax collection of Rs669 billion was made against the target of Rs 648 billion.

It was told that the domestic tax collection has witnessed an increase of 38.7 percent during 2023-24 comparing the previous year.

The prime minister was told that digital tools were also being used to enhance the tax-to-GDP ratio and the FBR’s database was also being linked with other departments.

The FBR was also striving to achieve the target of including another one million taxpayers in the tax net as 182,000 new taxpayers had already been added this year.

The prime minister was told that the scope of Point of Sales syatem was being expanded to more cities and retailers.

The efforts are being made to add another 20,000 new retailers in the PoS this year besides formulating a strategy on Transit Trade Management System.

It was told that work on the customs digitalisation was underway and Pakistan Single Window system was being linked with more government institutions.

The Privatisation Division was working to improve working and service delivery of government corporations by utilising the capabilities of the private sector.

Interim Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Advisor Ahad Cheema, federal secretaries of finance, aviation and privatisation, FBR chairman and relevant senior officers attended the meeting.

Australian High Commissioner calls on Health Minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 06 (APP): Australian High Commissioner called on Caretaker Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan and discussed stronger health ties between the two countries.
The High Commissioner congratulated the health minister on assuming the office and expressed delight at the appointment of a globally renowned health expert by the Government of Pakistan as Health Minister.
During the meeting, the health minister discussed his priorities in the health sector. He mentioned his commitment to improving healthcare in line with the Prime Minister’s vision. Quality of service in the health sector is central to his mission, Dr. Nadeem Jan said and added, both the countries have friendly relations.
He emphasized dedicating his abilities to complete the mission.
The Global Health Security Summit is being held in Pakistan. Health experts and delegates from around the world are participating in this conference.
The minister said that Pakistan’s efforts and role in global health security were well known worldwide. Strengthening the country’s healthcare system to prevent infectious diseases is a priority, he said and added that both the countries would learn from each other’s experiences regarding cross-border disease transmission.
Dr. Nadeem Jan stated that he was working to strengthen the Border Health Service system as part of the Global Health Security Agenda.

The High Commissioner said, “Australia values its relationship with Pakistan”.

Emergence of  true essence of academia, industry linkage: MoU inked between Kotli Varsity,  construction concern company

Pak Gulf Construction (Pvt) Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding – (MOU) to establish the true essence of academia and industry linkage and collaborate in various areas, including internships, job opportunities, faculty and student mentoring, curriculum development, working with government institutions, adoption and Formulation of Public Policy and training events.
Addressing the ceremony, hosted in the federal metropolis on Wednesday, Vice Chancelor Prof. Dr. Rahmat Ali Khan reiterated his commitment to delivering high quality education to students with a strong focus on practical learning.
He elaborated university’s goal to not only foster the development of students but also to enhance the connection between academia & industry.

PM Kakar assures all possible support to IT Ministry to expand exports

ISLAMABAD, Sep 6 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday, appreciating the measures taken by the IT Ministry to reform the telecom and IT sector, assured that the caretaker government would provide all possible support to the ministry for expanding the IT exports.

He was chairing a meeting to review the steps taken by the Ministry for Information Technology to enhance the IT exports by over $5 billion by bringing reforms in the sector.

The prime minister expressed the hope that the measures would help improve the national economy, besides creating more employment opportunities in the sector, and earning valuable foreign exchange reserves.

He was informed about the plan being executed by the ministry for increasing the IT exports and the measures taken for development of the sector.

It was told that the ministry was working to bring all the government services at federal level under one umbrella by digitizing them, which would enable the government to improve the tax collection system and identify the evaders. Furthermore, the complete digitization of economy was also underway.

It was further apprised that it would be made mandatory for all the university students across the country to get the IT training of international standard. “This measure will help increase the skilled workforce of international standard in the IT sector by over 200,000 that will in turn raise the IT exports to $5 billion.”

The prime minister was informed that the ministry was taking measures to provide training and facilities to the free lancers, including easy inflow of their remittances. The measures include interest-free loans to the private sector for the provision of co-working spaces, access of freelancers to internationally popular payment service providers and provision of fast speed Internet facility.

“These measures will help increase the exports of IT sector by $3 billion,” the meeting was told.

It was further informed that the government was also taking steps for easy access to loans and investment for i-startups, due to which external investment of $1 billion was expected in the next six months.

The ministry also presented a plan for bringing reforms in the telecom sector and provision of high speed 5-G service.

The meeting was attended by Caretaker Minister for Information Technology Dr Umar Saif, Advisor the PM Ahad Khan Cheema and other relevant officials.

Chinese entrepreneurs invited to benefit from skilled human resource in Pakistan

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (APP):: Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Pakistan in China, Ghulam Qadir has invited Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in and benefit from young and skilled human resources in Pakistan.

Addressing the China International Economics and Technology Administration Forum (CIETAF) at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), Ghulam Qadir said the theme of this forum empowered entrepreneurs, especially small businesses, and marginalized communities, providing them with a level playing field to compete and succeed in the local and global markets, the CEN reported.

He said that 91% of Pakistani products come to China at zero customs duty, and he hoped to increase exports to China by providing special incentives to investors from China.

“Pakistan is the 5th most populous country in the world and enjoys a huge demographic advantage as over 65% of the population is between the age of 18 and 35. Our youth is tech savvy and playing an active part in the digital initiatives in the country”, he added.

Qadir said that Pakistan offered a huge e-commerce market with a special focus on export-oriented industry.

In August this year, more than 200 Chinese businessmen visited the 1st Food and Agri Expo in Karachi, showing a lot of interest in buying Pakistani agro and food products and doing business on E-commerce platforms.

“China and Pakistan had incorporated IT and science and technology under the CPEC framework. We have established two Joint Working Groups for this purpose. We have also launched China-Pakistan Digital, Green, and Health Corridors to harness the potential of our two countries in these fields. We are establishing linkages between our academic institutions, research organizations, and IT companies for practical implementation of our vision and for going forward on a shared journey of the digital era”, he added.

Salik welcomes CDA chief announcement for Mesaak Chowk, launches blood donation camp

ISLAMABAD, Sep 6 (APP):Former Federal Minister for Population Welfare and Chairman World Minorities Alliance J Salik on Wednesday thanked Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Captain (R) Anwarul Haq Kakar for announcing the Mesaak (Harmony) Chowk in the federal capital and announced to launch a three-day blood donation camp to collect 1000 blood bottles in the Argentina Park from September 7th.
The Chairman of the Alliance during a media talk alongside Argentina Park demand to declare the Mesaak Square near the GPO in front of the Police Martyrs’ Memorial in G-6/2. On the occasion of National Defence and Martyrs Day,he also paid rich tribute to the martyrs and their supreme sacrifices for the motherland.
Talking to the media, J Salik said that the Jarranwala incident hurt the sentiments of not only Christians but the entire nation.
He said, “The Holy Prophet (PBUH) in his famous Six Commandments ordered Muslims to protect the fundamental, civil and religious rights of their Christian brothers. Muslims should follow the instructions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).”
Jay Salik told reporters that the senior judge of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Babar Sattar, while giving a verdict on the petition submitted by him, ordered the Prime Minister to make the six orders of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as part of the national curriculum.
He further said that the country became free from British colonialism after the undying sacrifices of 300,000 people, including women, girls, children, youth and elders. However, at the end of his blood donation camp at Argentina Park, J Salik will start his nationwide campaign of 300,000 blood bags’ donation.
Therefore, he said that after the incident of Jarranwala, it has been decided to start a nationwide campaign to remember the great sacrifices of our founders and martyrs of the nation to unite the nation and pay tribute to them.
He said, “This blood drive is being started from Islamabad and will be held across the country so that all the countrymen irrespective of creed and caste can donate blood for their motherland and their needy brothers and sisters. It will make Christians and Muslims united to donate blood for the country.”

Pakistan Defence Day celebrated with zeal in Balochistan

QUETTA, Sep 06 (APP):The Defence and Martyrs Day of Pakistan was celebrated with enthusiasm in respective areas of  Balochistan on Wednesday.
The day dawned with the recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan in all mosques throughout the province.
Officers of Pak Army, Frontier Corps, Police and Levis Force while offering Fateha for the fallen heroes of the nation laid floral wreath at different Yadgar-e-Shuhada set up in various districts of the province.
Rallies were taken out in respective districts including Quetta to par rich tribute to martyrs on the Defence Day.
Likewise, different ceremonies were held in various districts including Panjgur, Killa Abdullah, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Pishin, Kharan, Nushki, Taftan, Gwadar, Naseerabad, Jafarrabad, Dera Bugti, Chaman,and other district to celebrate the Defence Day with enthusiasm.
Participants in the ceremonies paying homage to the martyrs and Ghazis highlighted the sacrifices rendered by the Armed forces. In the programs held in connection with the Defence Day different stalls were set up to portray army’s role in defending the motherland and nation building.
Students of various schools also performed tableaus prepared in connection with the Defence Day.
 Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki said in his message on the occasion of Pakistan Defense Day that the Defense Day was a historic day when our forces uprooted the enemy’s steps and became a leaden wall to defend the motherland.
 He said that September 6 is a day in the history of Pakistan while it teaches us collective national spirit and determination for the protection, integrity and defense of our beloved homeland.
The CM said that the entire nation was demonstrated and come together during the war of September, 6, 1965 to prove that arms or numbers do not mean anything in the face of the power of unity, consensus and faith.
He said that Defense Day was a historic day when our forces uprooted the enemy’s steps and became a leaden wall to defend the motherland.
“A great courage and bravery was shown and the Pakistan Army successfully defended the geographical borders of the country and thwarted the nefarious intentions of the Indian forces”, he mentioned.
Ali Mardan said that since the establishment of Pakistan till today, our brave forces have made eternal sacrifices for the country and have always kept the country safe from the enemy.
He added that Defense Day is a renewal of the pledge that we would not let the sacrifices of our great martyrs go in vain and would always play our role collectively for the defense, development, integrity and stability of our country.
The people of Balochistan have always stood shoulder to shoulder with their brave forces and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the province and against the subversive elements, he noted.
He said that we are determined that will provide a peaceful and conducive environment for conducting clean and transparent elections in the province.
