Minister emphasises close bond between sects

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Caretaker Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Aneeq Ahmed emphasised a close bond between different sects of Muslims, highlighting their unity as a source of strength for the nation.
Speaking during his visit to the Markazi Jamiat Ahle-Hadith Centre at Ravi Road here on Friday, he voiced concern about certain forces attempting to tarnish Pakistan’s image.
Aneeq Ahmed also underscored the strong connection between Muslims and the Christian community, citing shared values. He emphasised the significance of the white color on Pakistan’s flag, symbolising the importance of minorities in the country.
He expressed optimism about the collective efforts to lead Pakistan towards a brighter future. Aneeq Ahmed shared his joy at visiting Darbar Sahib Kartarpur and engaging with the Sikh community, noting their happiness in Pakistan.
He highlighted the potential for religious tourism to flourish in Pakistan, given its status as a peaceful nation. Aneeq Ahmed condemned the Jaranwala incident, affirming the entire nation’s united stance against such actions.
The minister acknowledged Pakistan’s economic challenges, but expressed determination to overcome them, aiming to uplift the spirit of people. He emphasised the promising future, citing ongoing policy formulation and concerted efforts for progress.

CM advocates literacy as key to progress, development

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasised the significance of literacy in Islam, highlighting that the initial verses of the Holy Qur’an advocate the acquisition of knowledge.
He stated that literacy empowers individuals, enhancing their quality of life and opening doors to vast opportunities for progress.
In his message on the World Literacy Day, the chief minister conveyed a crucial message to the nation’s children, declaring them as the bright future of the nation.
He urged them to pursue education wholeheartedly, emphasising that a prosperous future hinges on achieving a full literacy rate. He stressed that a nation that lags in education could never attain true development, hence the promotion of education stands as our foremost priority.
Recognising the pivotal role of teachers in fostering literate societies, Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged that illiteracy remains a global challenge impacting millions worldwide. “By ensuring easy access to education for all, we pave the way for a brighter future for everyone” he said.
With unwavering resolve and a renewed sense of purpose, Naqvi expressed a firm commitment to attaining a 100 per cent literacy rate, asserting that this objective was entirely within reach through steadfast endeavors.
He drew a parallel to our determination in becoming a nuclear state, highlighting our successful achievement of that goal.

Sports calendar being prepared for two years: Wahab Riaz

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Wahab Riaz presided over an important meeting of the Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Department here at National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail and all the Divisional Sports Officers of the province namely Tariq Khanzada (Lahore), Rana Nadeem Anjum (Multan), Manzar Farid Shah (Gujranwala), Nisarul Haq (Sahiwal), Rana Hammad (Faisalabad), Atta ur Rahman (DG Khan), Amir Hameed (Bahawalpur), Tariq Nazir (Sargodha) and Divisional Sports Officer Rawalpindi Shams Tauheed Abbasi participated in the meeting.
Director Youth Affairs Syed Umair Hassan, Deputy Director Chand Parveen, Deputy Director Admin Faisal Ameer and Sports Consultant Hafeez Bhatti were also present on this occasion.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail gave a detailed briefing and all the Divisional Sports Officers presented suggestions regarding the sports calendar. The promotion and development of the sports sector in Punjab was discussed thoroughly during the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports said that the development of sports in Punjab depends on setting up a system at the grassroots level. “A long term plan is needed for the proper nurturing of sports culture at tehsil, district and provincial level”.
He further said that the Sports Calendar is being prepared for a period of two years from 2023 to 2025. “The best performers in the sports field will be given scholarships besides holding competitions among them”.
Wahab Riaz said the promotion of sports sector is on top among the priorities of the Punjab government. “Athlete welfare and financial programs are critical to the development of sports in Pakistan.  Sports Advisor Punjab
He said if we want to get a medal at international level then we will have to work on a long term plan as a top priority. “In the next two months, we will devise such a program for the sports sector that will benefit the players for many years to come”.
Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports said that the finance department will be requested to increase the budget of sports in Punjab. “Sports department, sports federations, media and all institutions should work together for the development of sports.
The trials and camps will be conducted for Under-16 and-19 players besides holding competitions to give them an opportunity to polish their game skills”.
Director General Sports Punjab Dr. Asif Tufail in his address said that effective steps have been taken to find new male and female players in the new sports calendar. “A pool of talented players will be created and they will be groomed further,” he added.
He said that four thousand fresh doctors are coming to the field every year, so why can’t the players come. “We will take every possible step to provide jobs to medal winners in different departments of Punjab”.

49 power pilferers held

FAISALABAD, Sep 08 (APP):The anti-power theft teams of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) during crackdown on Friday held 49 power pilferers and imposed Rs 4.3 million fine on them.
The teams, during successful raids in six operation circles: Faisalabad first, second, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali and Sargodha, unearthed 49 illegal connections red-handed. These connections were linked with main PVC lines directly, by making a hole in meters’ body, shunt system, and tempering meter body.
All the power pilferers were issued bills of 105,000 detection units costing Rs 4.3 million besides disconnection of their connections.
The cases have been registered against all at respective police stations.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer Engr Bshir Ahmed has appealed the consumers to keep an eye on power pilferers in their surroundings and informed immediately at central complaint center 041-9220618 or helpline 118 or toll free number 080066554. They can also be informed on cell No 0345-1502370, official facebook page or twitter account of FESCO.
He said that crackdown against power thieves would be carried out without discrimination and they would be held accountable.
The facilitators in power pilfering will also be dealt under the law, he cleared.

Major action of FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Sep 08 (APP):As many as five suspects including NADRA officers involved in making fake ID cards were arrested on the instructions of Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar Saadullah Khan, Spokesman FIA told media here on Friday.
The arrested officials included Ikramullah, Farid Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Asadullah and Nisar Mahmood. Accused Ikramullah and Farid Khan were posted as Deputy Assistant Director and Superintendent in Nadra Office Chitral.
The spokesmen further said that alleged accused Abdul Razzaq was posted as a senior executive in NADRA office Multan while the alleged accused was arrested after bail was released before the arrest.
The accused made more than 59 fake identity cards in total, spokesperson FIA said, adding, that 2 different cases were registered against the accused. He said that Sheikh Irfanullah has arrested the accused and an investigation has been started, Spokesman FIA informed.

SEPCO disconnects 1200 illegal connections

SUKKUR, Sep 08 (APP):Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO) officials during a large scale crackdown against electricity thieves disconnected 1200 illegal connections in various areas of Sukkur, Khairpur, Nosheroferoz, Shikarpur, Ghotki and other areas on Friday.
According to a SEPCO spokesperson, on the instructions of the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Saeed Ahmed Dawach SEPCO’s teams under the supervision of SDO in their respective areas disconnected direct connections from several houses.
He revealed that about 16 teams were actively engaged in operations against electricity thieves in the region adding that all the direct connections involved in power theft were immediately disconnected and the wires were confiscated.
The SEPCO chief has strongly directed the concerned SDO to take stern action against power theft and impose heavy fines on the consumers involved in the theft, he added.

CM praises arrangements for urs, chehlum events

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi extended his commendation to the provincial ministers, administration, police and associated departments for their exceptional arrangements concerning the chelum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) and cricket matches.
He specifically lauded Provincial Minister Azfar Ali Nasir and his team for their remarkable efforts in facilitating devotees during Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh urs.
Acknowledging the relentless commitment of Inspector General of Police and his force in ensuring foolproof security, the chief minister also praised the commendable performance of the Cabinet Committee for Law and Order, Commissioner of Lahore Division, CCPO, DIG Operations, Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, and the dedicated staff involved. He further highlighted the round-the-clock efforts of commissioners, RPOs, deputy commissioners, and DPOs throughout Punjab in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.
Mohsin Naqvi noted a historic moment, emphasising that Provincial Minister for Auqaf Azfar Ali Nasir stayed at Data Darbar for an uninterrupted three days, overseeing the urs arrangements. He attributed the peaceful conduct of chehlum processions, congregations, urs celebrations, matches, and Defence Day commemorations to the grace of Allah Almighty and the wholehearted endeavours of the Punjab government.
