Wani remembers Shaikh Tajamul-ul-Islam on his death anniversary

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP):Chairman Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), Altaf Hussain Wani has paid rich tributes to veteran Kashmiri intellectual and former KMS Director Shaikh Tajamul-ul-Islam on his second death anniversary.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the KIIR chief while lauding his peerless contribution to the Kashmir cause, said that Islam was one of the pioneers of the freedom struggle who rendered his service for the noble cause while working on political, diplomatic and journalistic fronts.
 Wani said, “Sheikh Sahib was a genuine intellectual, thinker and writer par excellence who had significantly contributed to the Kashmir cause”.
He said that Sheikh Sahib has left behind a rich legacy that will continue to inspire the coming generations. His demise, he said, had left a huge void that could not be filled easily.

US based film maker for highlighting Pakistan’s image through rich culture

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP): Izzy Chan – a US-based film maker stressed the need to highlight the positive image of Pakistan through a showcase of its rich cultural heritage and beauty as she recently visited Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Islamabad to train youth in documentary making.

Izzy Chan is a storyteller and award-winning documentary maker who is deeply curious about cultural and social trends poised to change life. Her award-winning documentary feature on the rise of breadwinner moms and at-home dads, “The Big Flip—Stories from the Modern Home Front” (2016), premiered at the Austin Film Festival and Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and was featured in the 2017-2019 American Film Showcase. As a film envoy, Izzy has traveled to Egypt, China, and Ukraine to conduct workshops on storytelling and strategy.

Talking to APP in an interview, she said that during her recent visit to GB, she trained over 50 young aspiring filmmakers through her methods of production, idea conception, and theme development.

“Pakistani youth has amazing talent and they can excel in the field of filmmaking if their ideas are explored and provided proper platforms. They can use the filmmaking field to bring positive change as well as project a soft image of the country through highlighting the positive aspects of their society which are not shown in international media,” she maintained.

Praising the beauty of nature and vibrancy of the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan, especially the North side, she said, “There is huge potential for tourism in Pakistan, and nature lovers and tourists from across the world must come to see these stunning glimpses of nature, local communities and hospitality of Pakistani people and show the world this true face of the country which is not shown unfortunately.”

“There is so much beauty and diversity in the GB region alongside women empowerment and a stable hospitality industry,” she said.

“As a cultural Envoy of American Film Showcase, which is a cultural and art exchange program, I met with young and energetic Pakistani students, the purpose of this art exchange program is to share our knowledge and documentary film-making skills with students and in return, I learned from their inspiring stories,” she added.

She said, “Local communities in Pakistan are very welcoming, hospitable, and open-minded to visitors of other communities which can bring more tourists from the world to this region to enjoy unique landscapes that are worth visiting to get a lifetime experience. These local communities are keeping alive their local art and crafts and working to make them more sustainable for coming generations.”

She also assured her full support to the young filmmakers and her students in Pakistan for making films on their creative ideas and highlighting the positive image of the country.

Izzy’s creative process integrates her cross-cultural background, experience across diverse industries, and her passion for filmmaking and storytelling as tools for instigating understanding, action, and change.

Bugti congratulates IBKP & Customs Intelligence on seizing smuggling goods

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Interior Minister Sarfaraz Ahmad Bugti has congratulated the Intelligence Bureau Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (IBKP) and Customs Intelligence for their exemplary joint operation which led to the seizure of smuggled goods worth Rs 519 million.
The minister said that the operation was one of the most important cases in the history of the IBKP and is a shining example of the dedication of the agency to protect Pakistan’s economy and borders.
He also praised the cooperation between the IBKP and Customs Intelligence, saying that it is an example for other law enforcement agencies.
The joint operation was conducted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and involved a series of raids on warehouses and other locations. The smuggled goods included electronic appliances, vehicles, and textiles.
The minister said that the seizure is a major blow to the smuggling mafia and will help to protect the legitimate businesses in the country.
He also warned that the government will not tolerate any form of smuggling and will take tough action against those involved in the illegal activity.
The minister’s tweet is a welcome recognition of the work of the IBKP and Customs Intelligence. It is also a reminder of the government’s commitment to protecting Pakistan’s economy and borders.

President condoles with family members of soldiers martyred in Janikhel suicide attack

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday contacted the family members of the soldiers martyred in Jani Khel suicide attack via telephone and offered condolences to them.

During the telephonic conversation, the president paid rich tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of country’s security, a press release issued by the President House press wing said.

President Alvi shard sympathies with the family members of Naeb Subedar Sanoober Ali, Haladar Aftab Ahmed, and Havaldar Muhammad Arif.

He also condoled with the family members of Havaldar Muhammad Imran, Sepoy Ahmed Ali and Sepoy Muhammad Haseeb Akbar.

Likewise, the president also talked to the family members of Sepoy Zeeshan Nazakat, Abdul Rasheed and Waris Ali and offered condolences to them.

The president saluted the martyrs and prayed to Allah Almighty for elevation of ranks of the departed soul in paradise.

He also expressed sympathies with the family members and prayed for grant of courage to them to bear this loss with equanimity.

NADRA officials among five suspects held over issuance of illegal CNICs

PESHAWAR, Sep 08 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar Circle in a major operation on Friday arrested five suspects, including officials of the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and private persons, over the issuance of illegal  Computerized National Identification Cards (CNICs).
On the directives of Deputy Director Saad Ullah Khan, a team of FIA Peshawar conducted a raid on different offices of NADRA and arrested the accused who were involved in making fake ID cards.
The arrested accused included a deputy assistant director, superintendent, and senior executive at different NADRA offices.
The FIA was interrogating the accused, and more arrests were expected based on their identification, an official of the FIA said.

Fares of Shalimar Express reduced significantly

KHANEWAL, Sep 08 (APP):Pakistan Railway Headquarters Lahore has issued a new fare table in which the fare for the economy class of the Shalimar Express train has been reduced significantly.
According to the notification, the fare from Khanewal to Faisalabad has been reduced from Rs 1050 to Rs. 750, Khanewal to Lahore Rs 1450 to Rs 1050, Khanewal to Rahim Yar Khan Rs 1450 to Rs 1100, Khanewal to Rohri Rs.2050 to Rs.1650, Khanewal to Nawabshah Rs.2350 to Rs.1850, Khanewal to Hyderabad Rs. 2700 to Rs. 2100, while the fare from Khanewal to Karachi has been cut from Rs.3250 to Rs.2350.
Similarly, the fare from Bahawalpur to Faisalabad has lessened from 1450 to 1050, Bahawalpur to Lahore from 1700 to 1250, Bahawalpur to Khanpur 900 to 600, Bahawalpur to Rahim Yar Khan 1050 to 750, Bahawalpur to Rohri 1450 to 1100, Bahawalpur to Nawabshah 2050 to 1650, Bahawalpur to Hyderabad 2300 to 1800, and the fare from Bahawalpur to Karachi has lessened from 2700 to 2100, added the notification.

7 held, 123 kg drugs recovered

RAWALPINDI, Sep 08 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting five operations across the country, managed to arrest seven accused and recovered 123 kg of drugs from their possession.
According to an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Friday, in two operations near Motorway Toll Plaza Islamabad, ANF special force have recovered 70.8 kg charras and 14.4 kg opium from secret cavities of two vehicles. Four accused residents of Attock were netted during the operations.
In the third operation near Car Chowk Rawalpindi, 1 kg charras was recovered from the possession of an accused, a resident of Khyber.
In the fourth operation on the National Highway near Hyderabad, 30 kg charras were recovered and ANF arrested a drug smuggler, a resident of Quetta.
The spokesman informed that in the fifth operation, 7.2 kg charras were recovered from the possession of an accused, a resident of Khyber, arrested from the Hayatabad area in Peshawar.
“Separate cases have been registered against the accused while further investigations are under process,” he added.

DC orders crackdown on dengue breeding sites

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon on Friday ordered a crackdown on dengue breeding sites to prevent the spread of dengue here.
Additional Deputy Commissioner East Usman Ashraf and Dr. Sania Hamid visited different areas of the city along with anti-dengue teams.
ICT Spokesperson Dr Abdullah Tabasim said that the teams destroyed dengue larvae from different places and arrested two persons for negligence and providing a favourable environment for dengue and also warned the management of PHA I-11 flats.
Additional Deputy Commissioner East Usman Ashraf said that the same location will be reviewed again after three days and strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the instructions related to dengue.
He urged the citizens to cooperate with the anti-dengue teams and ensure that their surroundings are clean and free of mosquito breeding sites.
The Deputy Commissioner has urged the citizens to take preventive measures against dengue, such as using mosquito nets, wearing long sleeves, and getting rid of stagnant water.
 He has also asked the citizens to report any dengue-related negligence to the authorities.
