The marathon, held on September 10 and in which more than 10,000 runners from home and abroad took part, was named after Wanfenglin scenic spot, a tour area featuring dense and bizarrely shaped karst peaks extending for hundreds of kilometers and along which runners could enjoy views of the city, villages, crops and canyons.

The spot is ranked by Chinese National Geography as one of the six most beautiful peak forests in the country, China Daily reported on Friday.

Nature rich, Wanfenglin boasts rich culture of the Bouyei ethnic group. It is home to the national intangible cultural heritage Bayin Zuochang, a Bouyei ethnic band in which members playing eight different instruments while singing.

It has gone global as its Bouyei brocade design had made a splash at this year’s China international fashion week in Beijing earlier in September.

Xingyi, capital city of the prefecture, also boasts China’s largest artificial lake and fifth-largest freshwater lake – Wangfeng Lake. Covering an area of 176 square kilometers with 10.26 billion cubic meters of waters, the lake is formed by Tianshengqiao I Hydropower Station Dam, a key national hydro power project located at the nexus of Guizhou, Yunnan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

It is emerging as paradise for water sports and outdoor lovers as visitors can go wild fishing, speed boating, yachting, kayaking and other water recreational programs surrounded by the karst peaks and ethnic villages.

Xingyi is the permanent venue of the International Conference of Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports and this year’s conference is going to kick off on Friday with the Wangfenglin marathon event as part of it.

PM vows to address all challenges with collective efforts

0

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Friday reiterated his resolve to address all the key issues being faced by the country with collective efforts.

“As the key challenges such as inflation, hoarding, smuggling, and electricity theft are related to the governance, therefore it is decided that the federal government along with all the provinces and their leadership would sit together to jointly devise a comprehensive strategy to fight the issues with collective efforts,” he said while chairing a meeting here.

The prime minister dispelled the impression that the government’s drive against smuggling, hoarding, electricity theft and inflation was temporary, saying that it would run for long term till their complete solution.

He said during last 10 days, he had received good news from all the provinces with respect to the government’s drive against these issues. He also appreciated the civil and military bureaucracy for successfully launching the drive.

He pointed out that with regard to the recovery, pursuance of law enforcement agencies was visible in the ongoing drive. Before that, he said there was inertia and laxity in this regard as there was no sense of ownership.

He said to reverse this kind of trend, the government was adopting whole of the government approach to conclude the drive to its logical end.

“We have capable civil servants, police officers and the military which is one of the most disciplined institution and whenever we will need their services to improve the governance, we will make use of them,” he remarked.

But in the long run, he said the solution to challenges of Pakistan’s governance was that the civil servants should gradually improve their performance.

PM Kakar said when their performance would be improved, the extra space being occupied but the law enforcement agencies would automatically be subside.

“I am very much sure that they [the law enforcement agencies] have no deliberate intention to occupy the space of other organizations.”

He said the intention was always that the functionality of the governance should be maintained. “At least the functionality of the state should remain relatively normal and in this connection this meeting is a milestone.”

He also stressed to correct the overall attitude of the governance.

The prime minister said as soon as the performance of the civil servants was improved, their writ, respect, and their branding would automatically improved. “This is possible only through collective efforts”, he added.
