ICT admin step up efforts against dengue

ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP):With the rise of dengue fever cases in Islamabad, the city administration has decided to step up its anti-dengue campaign to curb the spread of the virus.
In a review meeting held on Monday, the Additional Commissioner/Director Admin Chief Commissioner Office Waqas Anwar directed the authorities to improve sanitation arrangements in different areas of the city and ensure proper disposal of garbage, besides launching an awareness campaign among the people about dengue.
Anwar also said that all possible resources will be used to control the deadly virus in Islamabad, with a special focus on rural areas.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Islamabad, DHO, MCI and CDA officers, District Health Officers, Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates, and other stakeholders in the anti-dengue campaign.
According to ICT Spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Tabasim, the Additional Commissioner also directed that different areas of the city be sprayed to prevent dengue mosquitoes from breeding.

PSX gains 49 points

ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday gained 49.67 points, a positive change of 0.11 percent, closing at 45,803.19 points against 45,753.52 points the previous trading day.
A total of 103,494,874 shares valuing Rs 3.296 billion were traded during the day as compared to 222,531,077 shares valuing Rs.11.056 billion on the last trading day.
As many as 308 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 133 of them recorded gains and 145 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 30 companies remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were Pak Refinery with 7,869,080 shares at Rs 14.78 per share; SEARLR2 with 7,346,312 shares at Rs 1.02 per share and Agritech Limited with 6,297,000 shares at Rs 8.25 per share.
Khyber Tobacco witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 24.98 per share price, closing at Rs 375.32, whereas the runner-up was Mari Petroleum XD with Rs.18.60 rise in its per share price to Rs 1,550.40.
Mehmood Textile witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.43.53 per share closing at Rs 536.97,  followed by Nestle Pakistan with Rs.22.50 decline to close at Rs.7,000.00.

103 motorcycles issued challan tickets

RAWALPINDI, Sep 18 (APP):City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi conducted a grand operation against encroachment in a bid to maintain traffic flow here on Monday.
In-charge Traffic City Circle supervised operation against encroachment in Raja Bazaar, City Saddar Road, Bara Market, Gunjmandi Road, and its surrounding areas.
During the operation, City Traffic Police (CTP) also issued challan tickets to 103 motorcycles and vehicles while several FIRs were filed against encroachments.
A written warning was issued while taking possession of carriages and other goods, the efforts of the in-charge Traffic City Circle were fully appreciated by the people of the area.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan also appreciated the In-charge Traffic City Circle Raja Bazaar and his team for the prompt action, he said that all the circle in-charges should continue the actions against encroachment mafia and wrong parking in their circle on a daily basis and keep a regular check and balance after the action so that they do not cross their limits again.
The shopkeepers are also appealed to avoid setting up encroachments outside their shops so that they do not face any legal action.
The road users will observe a clear improvement in the flow of traffic with the actions against encroachment mafia and wrong parking, he concluded.

LCCI urges govt to help PACE fire incident affectees

LAHORE, Sep 18 (APP):Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Kashif Anwar has urged the government to compensate losses of the affected shopkeepers of PACE (a shopping centre in the provincial capital) fire incident and their shops should be returned to them immediately as they are facing serious financial difficulties.
He was talking to a delegation, headed by former president of PACE Gulberg Muhammad Irfan Latif. Other members of the delegation included executive committee members of PACE, Muhammad Ehtshamuddin, Zafar Iqbal, Rizwan Majeed Butt and others.
Kashif Anwar said that the concerns of traders should be removed immediately and their shops should be handed over to them. The delegation informed the LCCI president that they had suffered huge financial losses due to the fire at PACE. They demanded that they should be given immediate access to their shops, to clean them up and to resume business.
The delegation said that according to the assessment report of Structure Engineer Mirza Rizwan, the structure of the PACE building was not damaged by the fire and it was safe for use. The reports concludes: “This clearly shows that there is no statistical conclusion to support the hypothesis that the fire has damaged the structure of the building.” They said that there are 408 shops in PACE which have been sealed by the LDA.
The LDA takes action when shopkeepers try to access the shops even though the administration is running the parking lot. They said that the shops should be returned immediately to save the traders from bankruptcy. They  further said that a separate electricity meter should be installed for each shop.
LCCI President Kashif Anwar appealed to the government to support the PACE traders. He said that the Lahore Chamber fully supports the businessmen and in this regard, he has also written letters to the Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and the ministers concerned.

3G and 4G services restored in Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT, Sep 18 (APP):3G and 4G  Internet services have been restored in Gilgit-Baltistan.The Gilgit-Baltistan government has suspended 3G and 4G internet services for the past 3 weeks due to religious hatred and offensive statements and news on social media.
Considering the difficulties of the people and the concern of the educational institutions, this service was restored on Monday afternoon. The shutdown of 3G and 4G services in Gilgit-Baltistan affected many people, especially students, freelancers, businessmen, and many tourists.
After restoring 4G and 3G service, the provincial government has issued a strict warning to all people that if any person makes any kind of malicious and hateful speech or any post through social media, the government will take immediate legal action against such elements.

Best arrangements will be made for 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal: Arslan

SUKKUR, Sep 18 (APP):Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arslan Sheikh on Monday said that the best possible arrangements will be made in consultation with all stakeholders to observe 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal with religious fervor.
He said that a focal person has been appointed for the arrangements of Rabi-ul-Awwal in the district. The Mayor will fully cooperate with the organizers of Rabi-ul-Awwal processions,” the Mayor expressed these views while addressing a meeting held with the scholars and organizers of Rabi-ul-Awwal procession in relation to the arrangements here in his office.
On the occasion, Municipal Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Mughal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Kalhoro, SSP Sukkur Irfan Samo, departmental heads of Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC), scholars, religious leaders, and a large number of organizers of the procession were also present.
During the meeting, scholars and the organizers of Rabi-ul-Awwal processions presented suggestions regarding Rabi-ul-Awwal and emphasized the need for immediate resolution of various issues. Most of the problems raised were related to sanitation, road, encroachment, street lights, load-shedding of electricity, and security.
They thanked Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arslan Sheikh for inviting them to discuss arrangements for Rabi-ul-Awwal and assured him of all possible cooperation and assistance to solve the civic problems.
The Administrator said that he was trying his best to solve the problem of street lights, adding that he would talk to SEPCO to reduce the load shedding during Rabi-ul-Awwal to save the citizens from problems. He also referred to climate change and requested the scholars to play a role in the plantation of trees across the city.
Arslan said that the police would also take all possible measures regarding law and order during Rabi-ul-Awwal and would try to facilitate the organizers.

Police rescue abducted individual, gang leader arrested

PESHAWAR, Sep 18 (APP):Peshawar’s Cantt Division Police in a significant operation has successfully rescued two abducted individuals who had been kidnapped with a ransom demand of 100 million rupees.
The prime suspect, a resident of Koki Khel in district Khyber, was apprehended during the operation. The victims, a transport trader and friends were abducted on September 6 from the jurisdiction of the Sarband Police Station jurisdiction.
The abductors forcibly transferred the victims from their vehicle to another and took them to an undisclosed location..
The incident came to the attention of CCPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar and SSP Operations Aftab Abbasi when a report of the abduction was filed with Sarband Police Station and a special team was constituted.
In a joint operation involving law enforcement agencies and intelligence units, the victims were safely recovered from the kidnappers’ hideout in Khyber district.
The prime suspect,  a resident of Koki Khel, district Khyber was arrested. He confessed to his involvement in the crime during initial interrogations.
Relatives of the abducted individuals expressed their heartfelt gratitude and praised the swift and effective response of the Capital City Police and the special team involved in the rescue operation.
