Police bust 43 gangs of criminals

FAISALABAD, Sep 27 (APP):Police arrested 115 outlaws of 43 gangs and recovered cars, motorcycles,
rickshaws and other valuables from their possession during the last three months.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Superintendent Police (SP) CIA Abid
Hussain Zafar said that City Police Officer (CPO) Usman Akram Gondal had assigned
special task to Organized Crime Units with a clear-cut direction to control street crimes
including dacoity, robbery, vehicle lifting, etc. in Faisalabad.
Following the directions, special teams of Organized Crime Units evolved a comprehensive
strategy and arrested 115 criminals of 43 gangs from various parts of the district and
recovered 44 cars, 373 motorcycles, 10 rickshaws, a land cruiser, a loader, a mini truck,
16 cattle heads, 35 mobile phones, two LCDs and Rs 170 million in cash from them.
Furthermore, he said that police also traced out a blind murder case of Sahianwala police
station in addition to recovering 3 Kalashnikovs, 69 pistols, 3 guns, 168.430 kg cannabis,
2.365 kg Heroin, 31.1 kg Opium, 2.1 kg ICE and 348 liter liquor from the criminals.
The CIA police also nabbed 76 proclaimed offenders including 42 POs of category-A
and 34 POs of category-B.
CPO Usman Akram Gondal has appreciated the performance of CIA police and announced
commendation certificates and cash prizes for officials of Organized Crime Units, he added.

Virtual University deployed Mobile Bio Lab in Balochistan

QUETTA, Sep 27 (APP): In a significant stride towards enhancing educational opportunities in underprivileged regions of the country, the Virtual University of Pakistan has deployed the first-ever Mobile Bio Lab at the University of Turbat, Gwadar, and high schools.

The Mobile Bio Lab offered a diverse range of practical experiments, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in various biological disciplines. The innovative initiative seeks to bridge the educational gap and foster scientific curiosity among students in Balochistan.

The lab has already witnessed students eagerly engaging in numerous experiments, fostering a spirit of exploration and inquiry. It is expected to play a pivotal role in nurturing future scientists and researchers in Balochistan.

Govt committed to combat pink eye outbreak: Minister

LAHORE, Sep 27 (APP):Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir said on Wednesday
that eye surgeons in government hospitals across Punjab were now on standby round the
clock to handle pink eye cases while adequate supplies of eye drops had been distributed
to ensure swift treatment.
In a press statement, he emphasized the government’s commitment to combating the pink
eye outbreak. He urged the citizens to contact the helpline 1033 for treatment and guidance
related to Pink eye.
He reassured the public that Pink eye was not a dangerous disease and poses no threat
to vision. He stressed that the government had established special treatment centers at
Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, Mayo Hospital Lahore, and Nishtar Hospital Multan to
provide efficient care to Pink eye patients.
The minister said Pink eye was a recurring seasonal phenomenon, especially during the
monsoon season, urging affected individuals to take precautions. His advice included
regular eye washing, the use of protective glasses, and keeping personal belongings
separate from others to prevent the spread of the disease.
Punjab’s healthcare system remains committed to addressing the pink eye situation,
and citizens were encouraged to reach out to the helpline for any medical concerns
related to this condition, he added.

SCCI urges SECP to establish a facilitation desk for business community

PESHAWAR, Sep 27 (APP): Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) acting president Ijaz Khan Afridi urged the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to establish a facilitation desk for the business community at the chamber house.

He urged the government and relevant authorities to take pragmatic steps for ease of doing business and special incentives and facilities should be offered to businesspersons to improve the national economy.

Ijaz Afridi was speaking at an awareness seminar on ‘Ease of Doing Business and Inclusion of Women in Business’ jointly organized by Sarhad Chamber in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) at SCCI’s house.

The seminar was attended by members of the SCCI executive committee Qurtul Ain, S Minhajuiddin, Hamza Ibrahim Butt, former vice president Abdullah Yousafzai, Faiz Rasool, Saddar Gul, Fazal Wahid, Ihsanullah, Faiz Rasool along with traders, industrialists, importers and exporters in a large number.

Deputy Registrar Incharge Company Registration SECP Peshawar Division Saqib Aslam during the seminar enlightened the participants through his multi-media presentation regarding registration, licensing process, and stock market along with reforms and amendments in laws and regulations made by SECP for ease and facilitation of the business community.

The senior official said reforms had been brought regarding company registration and licensing through amending relevant laws and regulations for ease of doing business.

Saqib Aslam said the process of digitization and automation has been initiated to ease the difficulties of the business community.

He claimed approximately 200,000 companies had so far registered with SECP under the automatic and swift system.

The Deputy Registrar said human intervention has been reduced by a digitization and automation system.

He said Pakistan’s position in the world ranking index with regard to Ease of Doing Business has been improved.

He said SECP will soon introduce a one-window policy to facilitate the business community.

The senior official said SECP’s project for end-to-end digital transformation and automation is called “Leading Efficiency through Automation Prowess (LEAP) will be launched by the end of October this year.

Earlier, SCCI’s acting president Ijaz Khan Afridi thanked the SECP for conducting an awareness seminar on such an important theme.

He appreciated the government, SECP, and other relevant institutions for the reform initiatives because of which Pakistan’s position had been improved in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Index globally.

Ijaz Afridi on the occasion eulogized the role of women in the development of the national economy and stressed the need for providing equal opportunities to them for playing their consistent role in the economic development of the country.

South Punjab Secretariat making rapid stride towards completion

MULTAN, Sep 27 (APP): The construction of the much-anticipated south Punjab Civil Secretariat is making rapid strides towards completion as a technical sanction for the purchase of state-of-the-art furniture, with Rs 114 million, has been given.

The installation of modern facilities will surely help create a world-class working environment within the Secretariat.

Similarly, streetlight poles within the Secretariat premises and the Government Officer’s Residences (GOR) have also been introduced.

To bolster communication capabilities and foster connectivity in the region, a significant step towards technological advancement, as Rs. 21.8 million to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) for the establishment of a fiber optic data exchange has also been allocated.

According to secretariat officials, the Parks and Horticulture Authority has also received its first installment of Rs. 29.33 million for the beautification and landscaping of the Secretariat area.

To oversee the pace of work and ensure timely completion, Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Capt. (Rtd) Saqib Zafar, personally visited the Secretariat site on Mittal Road on Wednesday. Project Director Faisal Zaman and other officials from the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) were also were also present there.

During the visit, Capt. (Rtd) Saqib Zafar meticulously inspected the working stations designated for office staff and the waiting rooms for the visitors. He also toured the proposed offices for secretaries and other officers. Saqib emphasized meeting the deadline for completion of the mega project.

The ACS Saqib directed IDAP officials to submit a detailed timeline for the handover of the first block of the Secretariat to the administration.

Capt. (Rtd) Saqib Zafar highlighted that the new secretariat’s offices would be designed in a corporate sector style, with spacious halls to promote a conducive working environment. He further stressed the swift procurement of furniture for the Secretariat.

The Project Director of IDAP said a remarkable 100% of the civil work on the Secretariat building has been successfully completed.

He stated that the first block’s offices would soon be handed over to the administration after finalizing glasswork and furniture installation.

Additionally, road carpeting in the GOR area is set to commence within a week.

He also added that approximately 80% of the boundary wall surrounding the Secretariat had been finished, marking yet another milestone in the project’s progress.

The South Punjab Civil Secretariat is poised to be a symbol of excellence, fostering growth, innovation, and efficiency. Its completion is not merely a construction project but a catalyst for transformation, promising a brighter future for the entire region, the official maintained.

Naval Chief calls for recommitting to principles of maritime safety, marine conservation

ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (APP): Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, in his message on World Maritime Day, demanded the nation to recommit to the principles of maritime safety and marine conservation and reaffirm its solemn pledge to the maritime world that ‘our commitment goes on’, both in spirit and in action.

“I look forward to a profound and cumulative response by all stakeholders,” the Naval Chief said.

World Maritime Day, a significant reminder of maritime safety, security, and environmental conservation, is marked annually, urging nations to work together for sustainable maritime practices, a Pakistan Navy news release said.

Under the aegis of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), this year holds special significance as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).

Accordingly, this year’s theme ‘MARPOL at 50 – Our Commitment Goes On’ is intended to pay tribute to our efforts under IMO’s long history of protecting the environment from pollution through the impact of shipping via a robust regulatory framework and emphasis on its ongoing commitment to prevention of our oceans from pollution.

MARPOL’s legacy stretches over five decades, symbolizing our collective efforts against marine pollution emphasizing the duty we all hold to protect the lifeblood of our planet.

The Naval Chief said, “As we reflect on the journey, the statistics remain alarming; marine pollution’s ripple effects on ecosystems, economies, and livelihoods of coastal communities urge us to take more concerted actions.

Pakistan Navy stands at the forefront to conserve the maritime environment. In alignment with MARPOL principles, we have instituted measures to curtail emissions, enhance energy efficiency and, in earnest, implement pollution prevention strategies. Our ongoing efforts against marine pollution bear testimony to our unwavering commitment.”

On this World Maritime Day, he said as we look back to our shared maritime heritage and achievements, let us also look ahead with determination, commitment, and resolve to align our national objectives with the ongoing global shift towards sustainable and green marine practices.

“I urge all the stakeholders to embrace these evolving paradigms. Particularly, I reiterate Pakistan Navy’s resolve to ensure maritime safety and uphold environmental mandates,” he added.

Commerce Minister reiterates commitment to support steel industry

ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce, Dr. Gohar Ejaz on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to support the steel industry and ensure its growth for industrial growth in the country.

Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz firmly stated that the path forward for the steel industry and other sectors in Pakistan lies in relying on indigenous raw materials, which aligns with the government’s broader vision of self-sufficiency and economic growth, said a press release issued here.

Zaigham Adil Rizvi, CEO of National Steel along with a delegation from the steel industry called on the Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries & Production, Dr. Gohar Ejaz at the Commerce Ministry.

The purpose of this meeting was to address and resolve impediments to the growth of the steel sector, a vital component of Pakistan’s industrial landscape.

In the context of safeguarding local industry, the Commerce Minister also discussed the possibility of tariffs on imported steel products, indicating a willingness to explore this option.

He stated, “I will help you find marketplace solutions for your problems.” The Minister stressed the importance of sourcing raw materials locally to reduce the financial burden on the national exchequer and promote self-reliance in the steel industry.

Dr. Ejaz further emphasized the need for value addition in all sectors and outlined plans to enhance the competitiveness of Pakistan’s exports. “We will make our exports highly competitive and focus on industries in which Pakistan has a comparative advantage,” he stated. Additionally, he pledged to explore new export markets to foster growth within the steel industry.

One noteworthy highlight of the meeting was the commitment to promote business-to-business (B2B) trade within the steel sector. Dr. Ejaz assured the delegation that facilitating growth through B2B interactions with other countries would eliminate the necessity for subsidies or preferential taxation, fostering self-sustained growth.
