Sharjeel Memon greets nation on establishment of loss, damages funding mechanism at COP27

KARACHI, Nov 21 (APP): Sindh Minister of Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday greeted the entire nation on the establishment of the “Loss and Damages” funding mechanism at COP 27 conference and said COP 27 recognized Pakistan’s case due to the sustained efforts and hard work of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Addressing a press conference in Sindh Assembly Committee Room here, Sharjeel said that the 27th U.N. Climate Change Conference, or COP27, has established a funding mechanism to compensate vulnerable nations for “Loss and Damages” from climate-induced disasters, which was a very important global issue.

He said the foreign minister was fighting the case of flood victims at the global level, whose stance had been recognized by the world.

Memon welcomed the initiative of COP 27 conference and said that it will benefit developing countries and the damages caused by climate change can be remedied to some extent.

He said that the Sindh Cabinet had fixed the support price of wheat at Rs 4,000 per 40 kilograms. This initiative has encouraged wheat farmers, which will increase wheat production and make Pakistan self-sufficient in wheat in the upcoming wheat season, he added.

He said that from today the survey work has started in the flood affected areas by the Sindh government.
He said that Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has strictly instructed that all the farmers who are growing wheat should be given Rs 5000 each per acre immediately.

He said that special attention is being paid to the construction of houses and the houses of more than two million victims will be constructed.

Sharjeel said that former prime minister Imran Khan has caused irreparable damage to the country and the flood victims for his personal interests. Even today millions of rain and flood victims are waiting for help, he said.

The minister said that Imran Khan made allegations against the Prime Minister, Interior Minister and institutions on the long march attack case for which he should be held accountable and action should be taken against him under Article 6.

To a question, Sharjeel said that the Sindh government has suspended DC Matiari and reportedly involved officials adding that a high-level investigation committee has been formed besides arrests have also been made in this case and action will be taken against the responsible ones.

When asked about the Sehwan accident, he said that a sad incident has taken place. The National Highway Authority has also suspended the negligent officers, he responded.

USAID hosts round-table on climate challenges to Pakistan's textile sector

LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP): The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organised a private sector roundtable on Monday on climate change mitigation and its potential impact on the competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile sector.

The participants discussed impact of global warming on the ability of Pakistan’s textile manufacturers to compete with global suppliers and identified opportunities to enhance resilience of the country’s textile firms in the face of climate change.


The speakers highlighted the role of climate-focused reforms in introducing green business practices to the textile sector.

The participants reviewed the impact of global warming on textile supply chains, assessed industry competitiveness in combating global environmental degradation, and developed recommendations for policy. They also discussed corporate action required to bolster supply chain resilience.


USAID Mission Director to Pakistan Reed J. Aeschliman commented on the support that the US would provide.

“The USAID will aim to provide more opportunities for open information exchange with the public and private sectors to identify priority issues impacting the environment and develop effective strategies for a sustainable future for Pakistan.

I am certain that the public and private sectors will continue to work together on win-win priorities. You have the unwavering support of the US government as a partner to assist you to achieve your goals.”


While the representatives from the largest textile manufacturers, suppliers, exporters, and representatives of top US retail brands shared their expert opinions at the round-table, the textile industry representatives offered policy recommendations that can assist the private sector achieve sustainable and resilient economic development.


Renowned US brands shared their strategic plans to fight climate change and presented the best practices that have successfully been implemented across the textile value chain to reduce the emission of elements contributing to global warming.

Around 506,247 workers registered for overseas employment in last seven months, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (APP): Around 506,247 workers were registered for overseas employment through the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE), Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources in last seven months from April 2022 to November 2022.

Replying to the question of Ms Aliya Kamran, Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development Agha Rafiullah told National Assembly during question hour that from out of 506,247 registered workers, as many as 341,786 workers were registered through Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) and 164,461 workers through director employment.

He said the selection of the workers for employment abroad was carried out by the foreign employers themselves.

The ministry was in process of signing bilateral labour agreement with various countries including Germany, Romania, Portugal, Denmark, Hungry, Italy, Belgium, Iran, Libya and Lebanon for exporting Pakistani workforce. As many as 46,000 workers had been sent to Qatar this year, he added.

Replying to the question of Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, he said to facilitate Pakistan workers, six Community Welfare Attaches (CWAs) were appointed in Pakistan mission, Saudi Arabia and 3 CWAs in United Arab Emirates (UAE) to resolve the issues of overseas Pakistanis in host countries. If found involved in exploitation of Pakistani emigrants, the found employer was blacklisted for future recruitment from Pakistan.

Economic stability, relief to the poor top priority: Punjab governor

LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP): Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is committed to economic stability and relief to the poor in the country.

Speaking to a trader delegation at the Governor’s House here on Monday, he said the PML-N government was taking measures to put the country on the path to economic development and prosperity, adding that favourable business environment was being provided to businesspeople despite economic challenges.

A delegation from the Iron Merchant Association, Misri Shah, led by its Central President Chaudhry Aamir Siddique, and Patron Mian Mushtaq, called on Governor Balighur Rehman. The delegation included Chaudhry Farooq Raza, Abdul Basit, Haji Jameel, Asim Shafi, Muhammad Hasan Butt, Rana Dilshad, Khushi Muhammad and Chaudhry Zulfiqar.

The governor said businesses not only lead to socioeconomic development, but also provide employment opportunities to people. He said continuity of policies was very important for development of the country.

Hailing the business community over its rehabilitation efforts for the flood victims, he said it was an ongoing process and stressed treating the flood victims for the psychological effects of the catastrophe.

“In my capacity as the chancellor of universities, I have directed all vice-chancellors to work out a mechanism to bring the flood victims out of trauma and students of the universities will play an active role in this regard,” the governor promised, adding that moral training and character building along with education should be an integral part of education in the educational institutions.

He urged highlighting positivity in society instead of spreading despair and hopelessness, adding that national interest should always be preferred over personal agenda. He said political stability is essential for economic stability.

Governor Balighur Rehman admired the philanthropy and charitable spirit of the nation, especially the businesspeople and traders. He said that Pakistanis are an excellent nation in terms of charity and welfare work.
