AJK PM urges world to take notice of India’s violations of UN resolutions, other rights treaties

0

MIRPUR (AJK): Feb 15 (APP) :: Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has said that the world community must take effective notice as India’s apartheid regime was brazenly violating the UN resolutions that guarantee the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir.

The AJK PM said this while talking to former APHC Convener Syed Faiz Hussain Naqshbandi who called on him in the federal metropolis on Wednesday.

Both leaders discussed in detail the prevailing political and human rights situation in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. On the occasion, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan appointed Mr. Naqshbandi as his Honorary Special Assistant on the Freedom Movement of Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, the AJK prime minister while voicing his serious concern over the fast-deteriorating political and human rights situation in the IIoJK said that India had crossed all limits of barbarism and brutality in KASHMIR.

Lambasting the Indian government for its destructive and dodgy role in IoK, the AJK PM said that India was openly violating the resolutions of the United Nations that guarantee the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir.

The PM said that a special session of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir would be convened in which the representatives of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference would be invited.

He said that there was a need to mobilize the OIC regarding Kashmir.

He said that influential world government should play their due role to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute by using its diplomatic clout. “The Indian government has not only established illegal domination over Kashmir but has also started a plan to change the region’s demography by settling non-state subjects”, he said.

He said that instead of giving Kashmiris the right to self-determination, India had been shamelessly trying to legitimize its occupation and strengthening its control over the territory by installing its henchmen in the territory.

Former convener All-Party Hurriyat Conference Syed Faiz Hussain Naqshbandi appreciated the AJK PM’s efforts in highlighting the Kashmir issue and expressed the hope that concrete steps would be taken in this direction.

Most Senior Minister Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, Education Minister Schools and Education Diwan Ali Chaghatai, Minister for Physical Planning and Housing Chaudhry Yasir Sultan, Member Kashmir Council Shuja Khurshid Rathore, Special Assistant Raja Sabeel Riaz and others were also present on this occasion.

Banking court postpones order on Imran Khan’s interim bail

0

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP): The banking court of Islamabad on Wednesday postponed its order on the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the prohibited foreign funding case in light of the decision of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Banking Court Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen also confirmed the bail of the other three accused and disposed of the case of four others on the withdrawal of their petitions.

At the outset of the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar submitted an application seeking an exemption from appearance for his client.
He said Imran Khan was 70 years old and currently had bullet injuries in his leg. He was even exempted from biometric verification due to his age.

Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi argued that the IHC’s Registrar Office had raised objections over the petition of Imran Khan, who had no serious health issues and there was only a little bit of swelling in his leg. His medical report of a private hospital was not enough to get an exemption from attendance.

The prosecutor said Imran Khan also did not join the investigation process and prayed the court to cancel his interim bail due to non-appearance. He prayed the court to from a medical board to examine the health of PTI chief.

He said accused Tariq Shafi and Faisal Maqbool were also not cooperating with the investigation team.

After listening to the arguments, the court rejected the exemption request and instructed the PTI’s chief to appear before it on same day. The law would take its own course if he did not appear, it added.

In the meanwhile, the PTI’s lawyer informed the judge that the high court had stopped the banking court to issue its orders till February 22. The high court had given relief to Imran Khan on medical grounds, he said. The legal team also produced the high court’s order.

The banking court also confirmed the bail of accused Tariq Shafi, Faisal Maqbool and Hamid Zaman against surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each. However, the bail petitions of Saifullan Khan Niazi, Aamer Mehmood Kayani, Sardar Azhar and Syed Younis were disposed of as they decided to withdraw the same.

IHC adjourns Shahbaz Gill’s acquittal plea

0

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of an appeal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahbaz Gill seeking acquittal in the sedition case, till Thursday.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the plea of the accused against the decision of the Additional Sessions Court of rejecting his acquittal request.

At the outset of the hearing, the chief justice asked the petitioner’s lawyer whether the grounds presented by them were sufficient to approve the acquittal plea.

The lawyer said his client was first arrested and then the sedition case was registered against him. He also gave references of the decisions of various courts in similar matters.

The chief justice observed that the trial should be completed first, noting that there was no sequence in the case filed by the petitioner.

At this, the petitioner’s lawyer prayed the court to grant some time so that he could rectify the petition. The court accepted the request and adjourned the case till Thursday.

Agreements with IMF should be presented in parliament: Noor Alam Khan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP): Public Accounts Committee Chairman Noor Alam Khan on Wednesday urged the government to present the agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the parliament.

Speaking on the supplementary budget in the National Assembly, he said the parliamentarians should be taken on board about the agreements with IMF, whether inked by the previous regime or being signed by the incumbent government.

Referring to the burgeoning inflation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Noor Alam Khan said the rate of Urea was gradually increasing, as the subsidy was given to industrialists who had nothing to do with farmers.

Similarly, he said, medicines had gone out of the purchasing power of common people as their prices had increased many folds. It was quite difficult for a daily wager earning Rs 800 to make both ends meet.

Talking about default bills of electricity, he proposed the government to withdraw the facility of provision of free electricity to certain government officials.

It was not fair that on one side, the electricity price was being increased for the poor consumers, and on the other, some people were provided electricity free of charge, he added. Moreover, unscheduled load-shedding, that also of long hours, was being carried out in the rural areas of the country, he said.

Noor Alam Khan said hefty salaries with perks and privileges were being drawn by officials. Tax was always imposed on the poor, while the rich were given immunity, he said, adding the majority of officials in the tax department were allegedly involved in corrupt practices.

It was also the state’s responsibility to provide basic facilities of life to the taxpayers, he stressed.

He said the farmers had been affected by the recent torrential rains and flash floods in various areas of the country, but they had not yet been given any financial relief.

He pointed out that there was a shortage of flour and Urea in the country as the two commodities were being exported to Afghanistan.

He asked the government to review its policies and provide maximum relief to the less-privileged class of society.
