The Governor also advised the students to embrace gratitude as a main character trait of their personality alongside empathy.

“Be thankful and considerate towards those helping you in achieving the scores of milestones of your life irrespective of their positions. In this regard, there is no one more deserving than your parents and teachers who have led you towards a progressive lifestyle by making you a promising citizen of the country,” he said.

He also emphasized on the importance of research for the graduated students and instructed the Chairman HEC to help the university release of funds for its new ‘Chakri’ Campus as swiftly as possible.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor (VC) FJWU, Dr. Saima Hamid congratulated the graduating students and their parents and wished them a peaceful and prosperous future.

She appreciated the students’ hard work, outstanding achievements and their parents’ commitment to excellence in education and emphasized the hope that the students would make optimal use of the productive, creative and inventive professional skill sets that the university had imparted them with.

FJWU is one of the 16 partner universities under the HESSA project which is a five-year program for improving Pakistan’s higher education system and boosting the employ-ability of the university graduates. The university is also working with the University of Malmo, Sweden, on joint teaching and research through the recently secured grant.

As founding member of All Pakistan Women Universities Consortium, FJWU now has a network of 13 women universities across Pakistan. Being a member of Talloirs network of Engaged Universities, FJWU has launched 70 multi-disciplinary courses for the students, alumnae and the general public.

The University had also actively participated in the development of HEC’s Women Leadership Program, which focuses on the capacity building of emerging women leaders. Five of the senior faculty members had availed international women leadership training, she added.

She further elaborated that last year FJWU launched the national-level film competition “NAQSH Digital Film Festival”. This would be a regular annual feature of the university, she added.

In collaboration with PTV Films, UNFPA and RIME Digital this year’s festival is in process. This venture would provide the youth with the opportunity to showcase their talents and provide multiple opportunities to excel in the field of film and documentary production.

IHC extends stay on PAC’s recommendations against Justice (R) Javed Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Jan 27 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday extended stay order against the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for the removal of Justice (reted) Javed Iqbal as Chairman Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (CoIED) in Tayyaba Gull harassment case.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the cases challenging summon of the PAC and its recommendations to remove the petitioner from the post.

The Chief Justice remarked that it had to be viewed that whether such matters fell in the jurisdiction of PAC or not. The petitioner had given references of the verdicts of the top court and claimed that the PAC’s jurisdiction was only related to the financial affairs, he said.

Additional Attorney General Munawar Dogal said that in his opinion, this matter should be sent to the Parliament. The court said that the PAC had restored the employees of the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and the top court had declared that this was not the authority of PAC.

The Chief Justice remarked that the question was that whether the PAC could hear the matter of harassment. If this was so then it could also hear the murder case, he observed.

The Chief Justice further remarked that the Parliament’s responsibility was legislation and the courts’ job was to interpret the laws. The PAC should have send the matter to relevant forum if it had received any complaint, he said.

The court sought arguments from the lawyer of PAC on next hearing and adjourned the case till February 24.

Margalla Hills National Park

ISLAMABAD, Jan 27 (APP):The Park Rangers of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), with the assistance of Punjab Wildlife Department, conducted a successful operation against poachers near the eastern border of Margalla Hills National Park.

According to the IWMB, a special team of Park Rangers led by Director Wildlife, Assistant Director Wildlife and Supervisors, traced the poachers while acting on the information shared by local sources.

“Eight hunters with their rifles were lying in ambush on the eastern border of the National Park to hunt wild deer and wild fowl (kaleej pheasant),” an IWMB official told APP.

The park rangers carried out a successful operation and took two poachers into custody along with their weapons, while the others managed to escape.

The Park Rangers imposed a fine of Rs 120,000 on hunters for possessing illegal rifles, and handed them over to the Punjab Wildlife Department for further legal action.

The IWMB official said that the area of the National Park from where the accused were arrested, was close to the Punjab province’s Murree tehsil, and the accused reportedly came from that area.

The Punjab Wildlife Department was well aware of the area and its surroundings. It assisted the IWMB to trace the hunters, making the operation successful, he added.
