Gold prices increase by Rs 500 to Rs 197,000 per tola
ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs 500 on Tuesday and was traded at Rs 197,000 against sale at Rs.196,500, the last trading day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs 429 to Rs 168,896 against Rs 168,467, whereas that of
10 grams of 22 karat went up to Rs 154,821 from Rs 154,427, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola silver increased by Rs.20 to RS.2150 whereas that of and ten gram silver went up by Rs.17.14 to Rs1,843.27 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $12 to $1,832 from US$1,844, the association reported.

Despite challenges, govt steering economy towards growth: Dar
ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said here on Tuesday that despite challenging economic situation, the government was steering the country’s economy towards stability and growth.
He was talking to a delegation of M/s Rothschild & Co, comprising Eric Lalo, Partner and Thibaud Fourcade, Managing Director who called on the minister here, according to press statement issued by the finance ministry.
The minister greeted the delegation and shared the economic outlook of the country with it, the statement added.
He said, as a Finance Minister he had successfully completed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme in the past, adding the incumbent government was committed to complete the present programme and fulfill all international obligations.
The Rothschild & Co delegation briefed the Finance Minister on Company’s profile and its financial services provided to various countries across the world.
The delegation supported the policy steps taken by the government for sustaining and boosting the fiscal and monetary stability and expressed confidence on achieving sustainable economic development due to pragmatic policies of the government.
The meeting discussed the economic challenges being faced by Pakistan and possible roadmap for economic recovery leading to sustainable growth and development. The delegation was of the view that positives in the economy had to be highlighted vigorously globally.
Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Aisha Ghous Pasha and senior officers from Finance Division also participated in meeting.
PM directs measures for improved power transmission, load management ahead of summer
ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to take timely and effective measures to improve the power transmission and load management systems ahead of the summer season.
The prime minister, chairing a review meeting to discuss power transmission and load management, asked the relevant departments to formulate a concrete and comprehensive plan before the onset of summer.
He instructed to ensure early finalization of the strategy for better power transmission and load management ahead of summer.
Calling for minimum load shedding during Holy Ramzan, the prime minister said it was pleasing that the proportion of alternate energy and local fuels was increasing for power generation, reducing dependence on imported fuels and ultimately the import bill.
Prime Minister Shehbaz, who was given a briefing on power generation and load management, called for urgent measures to fully operationalise the Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant.
He instructed the power and petroleum divisions and other relevant departments to improve cohesion and coordination for better power transmission and load management.
During the briefing, the prime minister was told that effective measures were being taken to put a minimum burden of the load shedding on the masses.
Federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Engineer Khurram Dastgir and Marriyum Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to PM Jahanzeb Khan and senior relevant officers attended the meeting.
Shahid Khaqan’s arrest warrants issued in LNG reference
ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP): The Accountability Court (AC) of Islamabad Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for non-appearance in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) reference.
AC Judge Nasir Javed Raja, who heard the LNG reference, also issued bailable arrest warrants against co-accused Uzma Adil.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Uzma Adil could not appear before the court.
The court noted that even the applications for exemption from appearance were also not filed by the two accused. The case was then adjourned till March 14.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Uzma Adil, former finance minister Miftah Ismail and others are named as accused in the reference for awarding the LNG terminal contract for a period of 15 years allegedly to a company of their liking in violation of rules.
