FGRF continues relief activities in war-hit Gaza

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP): The Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) of the Dawat-e-Islami has been continuing its relief and aid activities for the innocent Gazans who have been facing the worst Israeli bombardment for over a month.

Molana Abdul Habib Attari, spokesperson of the Dawat-e-Islami, told APP on Friday that the FRGF had initiated relief work soon after the humanitarian crisis emerged in Gaza, Palestine due to Israeli aggression atrocities since October 7.

He said the FGRF team members from Malawi, Turkey and the United Kingdom made tremendous efforts to start relief, including supply of food and other essential items to the war-torn Gaza people.

Molana Attari said the relief activities remained stagnated due to Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip, however, the FGRF due to its members present inside the conflict zone, managed to supply food and other essential items to the beleaguered Palestinians.

He said the Foundation was trying its teams from the UK and Africa to reach Gaza for relief work.

He also appealed to the Muslims all over the world generously to support the FGRF so that it could extend maximum help to the Gaza people.

KAGHAN, Nov 09 (APP): Upper parts of the Hazara division Friday grappled with a critical weather conditions as persistent rain showers in the plains and intermittent snowfall in the upper regions continue to wreak havoc.
After continuous snowfall on Babusar Top, Mansehra Naran Jalkhad (MNJ) road was closed by District Administration Mansehra and National Highways Authority (NHA) for all sorts due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
The recent snowfall in the post-afternoon period has marked a sharp shift in the weather, intensifying the winter season following a prolonged dry spell. Tourist destinations like Naran, Saif-ul-Mulook Lake, Batakundi and Jalkhad in district Masehra while Galyat and Thandyani in district Abbottabad grapple with continuous snowfall.
Efforts by officials from the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) and Galyat Development Authority (GDA) to alleviate the situation are underway. The KDA officials have successfully evacuated three vehicles and a hundred passengers who were stranded in the snow near Kashti Das.
The Deputy Commissioner and the local police have imposed restrictions on all types of vehicles using Babusar Top Road. Travelers intending to reach Gilgit-Baltistan are strongly advised to opt for the Karakoram Highway as an alternative route.
The lower Batgram plains continue to experience persistent rainfall, while the upper regions of the Tehsil receive ongoing snowfall in the mountains and hills.

Dr. Amjad Saqib stresses commitment to social justice and empowerment

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP): Chairperson, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib said that BISP’s mission revolves around the principles of social justice and addressing poverty by mitigating needs of the poor through income support.

Addressing at an event titled ‘Bridging the Financial Inclusion Gap in Pakistan’ organized by World Economic Forum’s EDISON Alliance and Virtual Remittance Gateway (VRG), Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib emphasized BISP’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged families, enabling access to education for girls and boys, and empowering women.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan was the chief guest of this event, while Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Deputy Governor SBP Saleem Ullah Khan and representatives of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Utility Stores Corporation and JAZZ also addressed the event.

He said that Benazir Kafaalat initiative supports approximately 9.3 million families with quarterly cash assistance of Rs. 8,750 per beneficiary per family, providing crucial financial support.
Benazir Scholarship Program extends educational stipends to 8.2 million students from these families, this initiative promotes education by mitigating financial barriers, fostering future leaders.

He further said that Benazir Scholarships for Undergraduates aids 102,000 low-income students, covering tuition fees and providing an annual stipend of Rs. 40,000, ensuring equal access to quality education.
Benazir Nashonuma is an essential intervention addressing malnutrition in Pakistan, benefiting 1.12 million pregnant mothers and their newborn children, significantly combating stunting.

Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib said that in times of national emergencies, BISP has been a lifeline, providing swift and efficient assistance during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and flood relief in 2022.

Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib extended his gratitude to international donors, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations for their strong partnerships in achieving these milestones.

He unveiled BISP’s ambitious future goals, including real-time digital fund transfers, enhancing data-driven targeting mechanisms, collaborating with international donors, achieving sustainability, and supporting widows and orphans. Furthermore, BISP aims to open bank accounts for all 9.3 million beneficiaries, making the best use of the Asaan Mobile Account scheme, he added.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Saqib emphasized the critical importance of poverty eradication, stating, “Poverty is pain, poverty is poison. We cannot promote peace unless we end poverty.” He called for continued support and partnership from all stakeholders and expressed gratitude to organizations such as Pathfinder and VRG for bringing everyone together.
Dr. Saqib also thanked Claude Dyer and the World Economic Forum’s EDISON ALLIANCE for recognizing Pakistan’s remarkable success story, particularly the Asaan Mobile Account Scheme.

LESCO detects 175 power pilferers on 63rd day of anti-power theft campaign

LAHORE, Nov 10 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected a total of 175 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara) on the 63rd day of a grand anti-power theft campaign.
The LESCO spokesman told media here Friday that the company has also submitted FIR applications against 173 electricity thieves, out of which 110 FIRs have been registered in respective police stations, while 13 accused have been arrested.
Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves are being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider is supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that the operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them are also being brought to justice.
On the 63rd consecutive day (Nov. 10) of the anti-power theft campaign, the spokesman added, large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized connections, six were commercial, two agricultural, 167 industrial and 246 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 343,973 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 10.416 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged Rs 200,000 detection bill against 4,660 units to an electricity pilferer in an area of Baghbanpura; Rs 200,000 fine in the form of detection bill against 4,550 units to a customer stealing electricity in Shalimar Town area; Rs 150,000 detection bill against 3,852 units to another power thief in Hanjarwal area Multan Road Lahore; and Rs 150,000 detection bill to a power thief also in Hanjarwal.
During the 63 days of grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 24,693 power connections and submitted 24,447 FIR applications against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations out of which 23,669 FIRs have been registered, while 12,242 accused have so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 46,547,224 detection units worth Rs 1,958,872,452 to all the power pilferers.

Minister rejects news regarding shortage of medicine in public hospitals

QUETTA, Nov 10 (APP): Balochistan Caretaker Minister for Health Dr. Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai on Friday said that all necessary medicines were available in the public sector hospitals as per their requirement.

Dr. Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai in a statement issued here said that there is no shortage of medicines in the government hospitals of Balochistan.

According to the procurement plan, measures are being implemented to provide medicines and better healthcare facilities to the people in the government hospitals, the minister said.

The minister has denied the reports circulating in the media about the lack of medicines in public hospitals.
He said there is no truth in such news regarding non-availability of medicines.

He said there is a negative impression from such news about the non-availability of medicines which is not true.
