Pakistan, Greek envoys in EU resolve to deepen bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): Ambassador of Pakistan in the European Union Amna Baloch on Tuesday met with her Greek counterpart Ambassador Ioannis Vrailas.

In the meeting held in Brussels, they exchanged views on areas of mutual interest.

The two envoys also affirmed to deepen relations for productive cooperation between Pakistan and Greece in the future.

PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif reaches Quetta to strengthen his party in Balochistan

QUETTA, Nov 14 (APP): Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday arrived in Quetta on his maiden visit after his return from abroad ahead of the upcoming general elections.
He was accompanied by former PM and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and other leaders.
The Provincial President and General Secretary of PML-N received their leadership.
During his visit, the PML-N Supremo would talk with various political leaders of Balochistan.
He will also attend an event where leaders and several former parliamentarians of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) are expected to join the PML-N.
Former Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal has also called on Nawaz Sharif along with his group to join PML-N.

President cites immense potential to attract investment from friendly countries

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday citing the immense potential and opportunities for investment, said Pakistan desired to strengthen cooperation with friendly countries in the fields of investment, culture and tourism.

The president, in a meeting with the honorary consul generals of different countries in Peshawar, reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to enhance trade and investment ties with the friendly countries.

He urged the consul generals to strengthen their linkages with Pakistan’s chambers of commerce and industries.

The consul generals who met the president included those of Tunisia, Russia, Turkiye, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Tajikistan, Japan, Chech Republic, South Korea and Brazil.

The delegation apprised the president of the role of the honorary consul generals for promotion of international ties and mutual trade.

President Alvi also urged the consul generals to play their role to attract investment to Pakistan.

In the meeting, he also reiterated Pakistan’s concerns on the prevailing situation in Gaza and stressed the need for immediate ceasefire.

Minister Shah, ambassador emphasize Strengthening Cultural Relations

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): Portugal Ambassador Manual Frederico Pinheiro da Silva and Interim Federal Minister Jamal Shah on Tuesday discussed common interests, particularly improving cultural ties between the two countries.

Both parties mutually agreed to intensify bilateral relations and increase the frequency of cultural exchanges.

They delved into the specifics of collaborating in the cultural sphere, including organizing joint cultural events and promoting the cultural heritage of both Pakistan and Portugal.

Minister Shah, ambassador emphasize Strengthening Cultural Relations

The minister expressed that there was substantial potential for collaboration between the two nations.

Ambassador Manual Frederico Pinheiro da Silva recognized the opportunity for collaboration in culture and sports. Additionally, he suggested setting up a Portugal book corner at the National Library of Pakistan (NLP).

He also suggested creating a dedicated corner for Portuguese books at the National Library of Pakistan (NLP).

SECP eyes 129% growth in insurance premium by 2028

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is all set to boost the premium for the insurance sector by around 129.8 per cent from existing Rs 533 billion to Rs 1,221 billion in the next five years (by fiscal year 2028).

Currently out of a total 225 million population only 7.8 million have life insurance, which is just 3.3 per cent while out of total of 30 million registered vehicles, only 0.9 million (just 3 percent) are insured, said SECP Commissioner for Insurance and Information Technology, Aamir Khan while addressing a workshop here.

The workshop titled “Journey to an Insured Pakistan” was organised by SECP with an objective to develop and regulate the insurance sector by balancing the protection of policymakers with industrial growth through regulatory excellence. Likewise, Amir pointed out that out of a total 32 million registered properties, only 0.5 million are insured.

SECP is also set to host the International Insure-Impact Conference 2023 (IIC 2023), a two-day event in Karachi on December 13 and 14, 2023, with the theme “Journey to an Insured Pakistan”.

Through the IIC 2023, the SECP aims to boost the insurance sector by promoting inclusivity, innovation, and resilience through discussions and presentations, highlighting key issues and potential prospects.

Meanwhile, SECP Director Insurance and Policy Waseem Khan in his presentation said that insurance was a risk transfer tool and highlighted the importance of insurance.

He informed that there were a total 10 million policies, including 8 million life polices with a share of Rs 375 billion (68 percent) and non-life 178 billion (32 per cent). There are 42 insurance companies operating in Pakistan, he added.

He said the protection of policyholders would remain the focus in next five years and also highlighted the transformation of the insurance landscape, modernization of legal framework, facilitation of digitalization, and encouraging collaboration through effective use of Fintech, data sharing and alternate delivery channels.

Waseem Khan also highlighted the operational and strategic outcomes of the strategic direction 2023-2028.

Funeral prayers of martyred of Mir Ali terrorist incident offered

RAWALPINDI, Nov 14 (APP): The Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers) of Sepoy Muhammad Sohail Shaheed and Sepoy Abdullah Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom on the night of November 12 and 13 in general area Mir Ali, North Waziristan district, was offered in Bannu district on Tuesday.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, 19 years old Sohail was resident of Tharparkar district and 25 years old Abdullah was a resident of Mardan district.

Senior serving military officers, relatives of the Shuhada, and a large number of locals of the area attended the funerals.

The martyrs were laid to rest with full military honours.

“These sacrifices strengthen our resolve to stand resolute and committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism from the motherland at all costs,” the ISPR press release added.
