SMEDA, Balochistan held training workshop at Gwadar University

QUETTA, Nov 16 (APP):Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Balochistan organized a one-day training workshop on “Entrepreneurship as a Viable Career Option” at Gwadar University (GU) in collaboration with the Department of Research and Commercialization, Gwadar University on Thursday.
Inaugurating the workshop, Gwadar University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that Gwadar University has planned to expand its linkages with industries and companies in the public and private sectors through the Office of Research and Commercialization to promote the concept of entrepreneurship among people. The training workshop aimed to enable students to become job providers rather than job seekers, he said.
Prof. Dr. Sabir thanked the provincial head of SMEDA, Abdul Shakoor and his team for organizing such a training workshop in the university saying that such workshops should be organized every year so that the students could develop their skills.
Addressing the workshop, Director of Officer Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Muhammad Irshad Buledi said that such a workshop was beneficial to change the attitude of the participants and improve their business skills.
The resource person, a renowned entrepreneur and manager of NIC (Balochistan), Bashir Ahmed Agha informed the participants about various skills needed to become a successful entrepreneur.
The workshop was also attended by the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Jan Muhammad, chairpersons and heads of various academic and administrative departments, faculty members and students.

Role of cleanliness vital against diseases: Chairman RWMC

RAWALPINDI, Nov 16 (APP):Chairman Rawalpindi Waste Management Company(RWMC) Saqib Rafiq has said that the role of Cleanliness is vital to protect against diseases and harmful effects of environmental changes.
Talking to the delegation of the National Institute of Management Lahore on Thursday, he said that RWMC was committed and striving to clean the city.
He gave a detailed presentation to the delegation on the company’s establishment, aims and objectives and other issues.
Meanwhile, Manager RWMC Ahsan Azmat Malik briefed the delegation on vehicle tracking, geo-tagging, workers attendance software, monitoring and complete mechanisms in the RWMC control room.
Later, Madam Adeela Younis, the head of the delegation was also presented with an honorary shield by the Chairman and CEO of RWMC.

Power theft detected at plastic factory

LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP):As part of the anti-power theft campaign, an inspection team of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) detected electricity theft at a plastic manufacturing factory in Amir Town here.
A LESCO spokesman told the media here on Thursday that the inspection team, led by SDO Imran Anjum, found  the accused was stealing electricity through hooking wire on the electricity line. The team, he added, disconnected power supply to the unit and seized the wire used in the theft, besides registering a case against the accused in Baghbanpura Police Station. The accused was also charged a detection bill of Rs one million.

LESCO detects 346 power pilferers on 69th day of anti-power theft campaign

LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected a total of 346 connections from
where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara) on the 69th day of grand anti-power theft campaign.
LESCO spokesman told the media here Thursday the company has also submitted FIR applications against 340 electricity thieves, out of which 226 FIRs had been registered in respective police stations, while 31 accused had been arrested.
Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves was being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider was supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them were also being brought to justice.
On the 69th consecutive day (Nov 16) of the anti-power theft campaign, the spokesman added, a large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized
connections 07 were commercial, 01 agricultural and 338 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 400,395 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 14.930 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged Rs 230,000 detection bill against 9,305 units to an electricity pilferer in Bhikkhi area of Sheikhupura; Rs 150,000 fine in the form of detection bill against 1,650 units to a customer stealing electricity in Ferozwala; Rs 150,000 detection bill against 1,650 units to another power thief in Mustafa Abad; and Rs 120,045 detection bill to a power thief in Baghbanpura Lahore.
During the 69 days of grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 26,543 power connections and submitted 26,267 FIR applications against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations, out of which, 25,346 FIRs had been registered, while 12,611 accused had so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 48,568,180 detection units worth Rs 2,004,591,917 to all power pilferers.

34 factories sealed during anti-smog drive

FAISALABAD, Nov 16 (APP):Assistant Director Environment Atif Imran said on Thursday that 34 industrial units were sealed, 20 were served warning notices, 43 owners were booked and Rs 3.9 million fine was imposed on various others during inspection of 126 small and large industrial units in the district during the last two weeks.
He said the anti-smog squads were conducting raids at industrial units, brick-kilns, rural areas, besides checking of fitness of big and small vehicles to minimise air pollution.
He said that a total 169 brick kilns were checked, out of which 60 were sealed, 40 were served warnings, 69 owners were booked and a fine of Rs 5.4 million was imposed.
In a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles, fitness of 696 buses, trucks, vans, cars, rickshaws was checked during the period and 150 challans of vehicles were issued to drivers besides imposition of Rs 238,000 fine on them, he said.
A vehicle was also impounded and cases were registered against 9 others. The assistant director requested citizens to avoid burning residue of crops and garbage to prevent air pollution.

Constable martyred in Tank terrorist attack

TANK, Nov 16 (APP): A policeman deployed at the office of National Database Registration Authority in the limits of City Police Station was martyred in a terrorist attack on Thursday.

According to a police spokesman, Constable Waris Shah, who was performing security duty at the NDARA office, was shot dead by unknown terrorists riding on a motorcycle, who later managed to escape.

District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Iftekhar Ali Shah, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Haji Nasir Khan, DSP Headquarters Abdul Rasheed Khan Marwat and and DSP Jandola Syed Marjan Khan along with a heavy contingent of police reached the site and shifted the body to the DHQ Hospital Tank.

The police carried out a search operation in the area to trace the assailants.

Later, the funeral prayer of martyred constable was offered at the District Police Office. Besides the DPO and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shoaib, officials of district administration, police, Frontier Constabulary and other security forces, a number of local notables and journalists attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.

On the occasion, the police contingent presented a salute to the martyred cop and also laid a wreath on his coffin.

106 brick kilns, 61 units closed over smog in DG Khan

DG KHAN, Nov 16 (APP):The district administration launched crackdown and closed down 106 brick kilns, 61 industrial units and confiscated 1498 vehicles which caused smog across the division.
Chairing a meeting on the subject here Thursady, Commissioner DG Khan division  Nasir Mahmood Bashir said that the crackdown was underway to control smog under the directions of Punjab government.
As many as 5525 vehicles were inspected, issued challans to 4025 smoke emitting vehicles and Rs two millions fine was imposed on violation during the last 15 days.
He said that 146 industrial units were inspected and 61 units causing smog closed.
 Apart from this, cases were registered against seven owners of industrial units and were fined Rs 6,00,000.
He said that 705 brick kilns out of 725 kilns across the division have been shifted to modern zigzag technology.
He said that 237 brick kilns were inspected and cases were filed against 26 kiln owners for emitting smoke.
Assistant Director Environment Syed Ashfaq Bukhari, traffic police and officers of other departments briefed the meeting.
