President stresses opportunities for differently-abled in education, jobs

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday emphasized inclusion of persons with disabilities in mainstream by providing them opportunities of education and employment.

He was speaking to a delegation from Center for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) comprising social activists and persons with disabilities, here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Alvi stressed the need for filling the job quota reserved for differently-abled persons to ensure their financial empowerment.

In this regard, he said, vocational training, tailor-made jobs and easy loans could help such people attain self-reliance

The president emphasised installation of functional infrastructure such as ramps at public places to ease the movement of differently-abled persons.

Executive Director CPDI Mukhtar Ahmed Ali, social workers and persons with disabilities attended the meeting.

PM for health sector reforms to meet global requirement of experts

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday emphasized the introduction of reforms in country’s health sector with a view to meet the global requirement of health experts.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting of the task force on reforms in medical education and patients care, said the reforms in the health sector was vital in current situation.

He also called for improving the standards of medical education in accordance with the contemporary requirements.

The participants of the meeting were briefed on the strategy to uplift the health sector at par with international standards.

The prime minister said that considering its significance, enhanced attention should be given on uplifting the nursing sector.

The meeting was also briefed on the steps taken for improvement in the health sector in coordination with the health ministry, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, Higher Education Commission and medical universities.

It was told that a three-prong strategy had been formulated for health sector reforms to enforce the rules and regulations of international standards.

The participants were also apprised of the reforms strategy for the graduate and postgraduate levels in the health sector.

Prime Minister Kakar appreciated the performance of the task force working under Special Assistant Dr Amir Bilal for bringing in health sector reforms.

COMSTECH announces Special Teacher’s Training Program

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP): COMSTECH-the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC in collaboration with Ida Rieu Schools for the Blind and Deaf  has launched a `Special Teacher’s Training Program’.
According to an official of COMSTECH, this program is one of its kind by offering dedicated three months training to Special Teachers by experts of the field. Special Education Teachers from all OIC member states (57 countries) can benefit from this program.
This program was jointly discussed and agreed by Ms. Nadira Panjwani (H.I & S.I.) and Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, (Mustafa (PBUH) Prize Laureate, H. I., S. I., T. I.) Coordinator General COMSTECH.
About the eligibility, the official informed that this program is open for the nationals of OIC member and observer states with age limit of 28-40 years.
The applicants holding teaching experience of at least one year or relevant educational background will be given preference.
The training is for a period of three months. COMSTECH will provide return economy class tickets to successful international applicants and will cover their visa fee.
All the research/learning/practice activities will be conducted in English.
About the application procedure, the official informed that the applicant is required to submit the application through email id: khazima@comstech.org till the closing date of December 20.

The details of training will be shared with selected candidates through email.

COMSTECH is the only OIC institution hosted by Government of Pakistan, presided by the President of Pakistan as Chairman of COMSTECH.
COMSTECH was established in 1981 with the core mandate to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T).
The ultimate aim is to build and nourish a scientific culture in addition to using S&T as a major contributor to socio-economic development and rapid industrialization.
Ida Rieu Schools for the Blind & Deaf are schools and colleges run by the Ida Rieu welfare Association. ‘IDA RIEU Poor Welfare Association’ came into existence on November 25, 1921 in Karachi with a view of imparting education and training to the blind, deaf and mute children to make them useful citizens of community.
Their mission is to nurture the intellectual and social skills of the special children and enable them to cope with all challenges through education and training.

Pakistan’s Mustafa sets Guinness World Record

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): Pakistan’s Mustafa Alam has set a Guinness World Record of memorizing and accurately recalling 342
randomized binary numbers in one minute.
Mustafa Alam was a student of Futuristic Learning and was trained by Sania Alam.
“Mustafa Alam, who memorized and accurately recalled, 342 randomized binary numbers in one minute, in Karachi,” she told APP.
This record-breaking achievement surpasses the previous record of 270 binary numbers set in 2015 by a participant from India.
This recent triumph marks the sixth Guinness World Record achieved by
students of Futuristic Learning under the mentorship of coach Sania.
The institute was renowned for its excellence in memory training, having
previously set world records in various memory disciplines: Emma Alam – Most random words memorized in 15 minutes (410 words), Most names and faces memorized in 15 minutes (218 names and faces); Syeda Kisa Zehra – Most historical dates recalled in five minutes (241 dates); Syed Nabeel Hasan Rizvi – Most three-digit flash numbers memorized (40 sets = 120 numbers), The longest number sequence memorized in four seconds (30 Digits).
Sania said Mustafa’s achievement in memorizing 342 binary numbers, which were just 0s and 1s, in one minute was a remarkable display of mental speed and focus.
“This means he was identifying and memorizing over five numbers everysecond.”
She said Mustafa used to memory train with her to aid his studies, butit quickly evolved into a deep interest in showcasing the potential of
memory training and proving that it can be developed at any age.
Mustafa said,”Memory is not a passive attribute; rather, it is an active skill that can be cultivated like any other skill”.
Coach Sania also has her own list of high achievements. She was the ‘Brainof the Year’ for 2023/2024, awarded by the UK Brain Trust, and has
received the Youth Excellence Award from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from US President Joe Biden.

Tariq Pervez elected as chairman World Youth Committee

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): The World Scrabble Federation (WESPA) has elected Tariq Pervez of Pakistan as new chairman of the World Youth Committee.

The announcement came at the end of the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Thailand, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The seat fell vacant as Ms. Karen Richards announced her retirement after 18 years in office.

Tariq Pervez has taken charge and would pick his team to decide about holding future world youth championships.

The president of Pakistan Scrabble Association Nadeem Omar and chief patron Ms Goshpi Avari congratulated Tariq Pervez and termed his election an honor for Pakistan.
