Prime minister strongly condemns Peshawar blast

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday strongly condemned the bomb blast that took place at Warsak Road of Peshawar.

The prime minister instructed the authorities concerned to provide the best possible medical facilities to the children who sustained injuries in the incident, and prayed for their early recovery, according to a PM Office statement.

He directed the law enforcement agencies to probe into the incident and reiterated that the nefarious designs of the terrorists to mar country’s peace would never let to succeed.

The prime minister reiterated the resolve that the war against terrorism would continue till elimination of the scourge and assured that the perpetrators of the incident would be brough to the task as soon as possible.

SMEDA to organize training on “Import/Export Documentation Procedures and PSW”

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP):The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) will organize a one -day workshop on “Import Export Documentation Procedures and Pakistan Single Window (PSW)” for profitable business growth on 11 December.

The workshop will be held at the Jhelum Chamber of Commerce Industry (JCCI), according to sources in the authority informed on Tuesday.

The training program will provide information about international trade, its importance, benefits, risk and barriers, stakeholders of import/export business in Pakistan, company registration and types of companies, stages of exports from Pakistan, and International trade terms-Incoterms 2020.

The workshop will also provide information about trade payments terms, cargo insurance, importance and benefits, import-export documentation complete flow, and registration and handling of Pakistan Single Window (PSW).

The session would be attended by small business owners and their staff, emerging and existing entrepreneurs, imports, exporters, freight forwarders, professionals and executives in logistics supply chain.

Shipping Activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Dec 05 (APP): Six ships, Double Eagle, Marathopolis, MSC Rania, CM ACGM Nabucco, Al-S Dhafra and Umm Al-Amad scheduled to load/offload Cement, Containers, Coal, LPG and LNG, berthed at Multipurpose Terminal, Container Terminal, Bulk Terminal, Engro Terminal and Elengy Terminal respectively on Monday.

Meanwhile five more ships, scheduled to load/offload Rice and Containers also arrived at outer anchorage of the port during last 24 hours.

Nineships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them, two container ships, MSC Rania and CMA CGM Nabuccoleft the port on Tuesday morning and two more ships Marathopolis and Horizon-I are expected to sail on today afternoon.

A cargo volume of 142,292 tonnes, comprising 100,244 tonnes imports cargo and 42,048 tonnes export cargo, including containerized cargo carried in 4,601 Containers (2,731 TEUs Imports and 1,870 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.

There are 13ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them three ships, Golden Denise, MSC Jemima and MSC Greenwich & three more ships, Maersk Chicago, Meratus Jayawijaya and Ardmore Cherokee carrying Chemicals, Containers and Palm oil are expected to take berths at EVTL, QICT and LCT on Tuesday.

Detrimental cooking oil seized

DG KHAN, Dec 05 (APP):Punjab Foods Authority (PFA) seized a huge consignment of open olein oil having detrimental consequences on health.

A total of 2660 kg olein oil was seized when it was being supplied at karyana shop situated at block-7 of the vegetable market here.

The food authority send the sample to a laboratory for further testing after taking the ‘spoiled oil’ into custody.

Owners of karyana stores on the location were served show-cause notices.

DG PFA said that the people involved in the heinous food business won’t be allowed to play with the lives of people.

Action against illegal commercial use of residential buildings in G-13, G-14 soon

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP): The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) is soon going to start action against unauthorized commercial use of residential buildings in Sectors G-13 and G-14 of the federal capital.
“In this regard, the authority has already issued notices to the owners of illegal and unauthorized use of residential properties for commercial purposes in the sectors,” sources in the FGEHA told APP.
As per the Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulation 2020, they said that the FGEHA has decided to take legal action against property owners involved in unlawful or unauthorized commercial use of residential buildings in the sectors.
The sources said that the authority has issued formal show-cause notices and warnings to them to immediately cease non-conforming use of residential buildings.
Moreover, they said the authority has cautioned the property owners that failure to comply the orders would result in a fine of Rs. 500,000 in addition to sealing such properties.
They informed that as many as 80 residential buildings in these sectors have been identified as in unauthorized and illegal commercial use, including various offices, schools, guest houses, beauty parlors, hostels, property offices, furniture showrooms, and others.
“The authority had initially issued notices in March 2023 regarding illegal commercial use of residential buildings. However, another warning has now been issued, emphasizing the immediate halt of commercial use in residential areas,” they added.
The sources said that the authority is set to initiate definitive actions against violators to ensure compliance with regulations.

Senate Body on education passes ‘Student Union Bill’ 2023

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (APP): Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training yesterday unanimously passed the Private Members’ Bill titled “The Islamabad Capital Territory Student Unions Bill, 2023,” introduced by Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi.

The committee meeting held here under the Chairmanship of Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui, who while commenting the ‘Student Union Bill’ said that instead of grouping based on ethnicity, provinces, or other considerations, healthy activities must be encouraged in the educational institutions for which the student union is a good platform.

The chairman of the committee while addressing the distinctions between TTS (Tenure Track System) BPS (Basic Pay Scale) mentioning the absence of a service structure for the technologists and their promotion policy suggested that if these aspects do not align and protests persist, the conflict will persist. Thereby, merging the two might resolve the discord.

While discussing the Disposal of Public Petition regarding the placement of PhDs, the Committee members engaged in a comprehensive discussion about the IPFP agreement and laws conflicting with the proceedings and disengagement of PhD scholars from the University of Swabi. Committee members expressed concerns about the exclusion of employees who have served for five years without any replacement.

A volunteer from one of the concerned universities also pleaded his case, stating that, in the situation, all the PhD scholars recruited under IPFP Program were terminated following a court proceeding. The chairman of the committee emphasized the need to address this matter. The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission may come up with a viable solution in consultation with all stakeholders and report the solution to the Committee.

Additionally, the committee expressed concerns about the delay in the Private Members Bill and the Protection of Family Life and Wedlock Bill 2023. The committee highlighted the issue that, despite being passed by both Houses and approved, the Protection of Family Life and Wedlock Bill is not traceable and is misplaced. The committee unanimously decided to report the case to the Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs as per the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 2012.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training presented its progress on the compliance report by the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission and Pakistani chairs abroad, emphasizing their active engagement with the matter. The Committee Chairman directed keeping regular reporting on the progress of Pakistani Chairs Abroad to the Committee.

Similarly, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training presented its efforts regarding the recommendations of the Committee held on 9th October 2023. The Ministry stated that it has regularized the services of 137 teachers in Federal Directorate of Education, as notified by the ex-Capital Administration and Development Division, while 71 notifications are under process. The Committee also highlighted the non-payment of salaries to the reinstated teachers and directed that the Ministry may come up with a detailed report regarding payments of salaries to the reinstated teachers.

Senator Prof. Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani expressed concerns about the absence of a service structure for technologists and requested a prompt solution. The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission applauded the role of Senator Ruksana Zuberi and Chairman Engineering Council and stated that the Pakistan Engineering Council has agreed in principle to have no objection over awarding equal status to the technologists as per the Sydney Accord.

Regarding the re-examination of the law students of Bahauddin Zakariya University, the Vice Chancellor of the university stated that they have conducted a re-examination of all students from 2015 to 2017, while the case of students from 2018 to 2021 is subjudice in the Supreme Court, which will also be re-examined. The members of the Ministry of Education and Professional Training also mentioned that the report from HEC on the re-examination of Law Students at Bahauddin Zakariya University has been resubmitted.

Likewise, concerning the HEC report on the recognition and attestation of degrees, the Chairman of the Committee endorsed the recommendation of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training regarding a special session of the Higher Education Commission for reviewing the issues of degrees attestation of students of different universities on a case-by-case basis, granting a one-time dispensation. The Committee directed the Higher Education Commission to take legal action against all unlawful institutes/universities operating across the country.

The committee was attended by Senator Prof. Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, Senator Falak Naz, Senator Engr. Ruksana Zuberi, Senator Fawzia Arshad, Senator Maulvi Faiz Muhammad, Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi, Ministry of Law and Justice officers and Ministry for Federal Education and Professional Training officers.

QAU announces HEC Need-Based Scholarship for fall 2023

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP):Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad has announced Need Based Scholarships through the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for Semester Fall 2023.

According to the official sources, the applications are invited from the students who enrolled in BS & BS (Lateral Entry) regular degree programs.

The students who enrolled on Self Finance/Self Support/Evening/Weekend are not eligible for the award of scholarship.

As per eligibility criteria, the scholarship shall be awarded only to the poor and most deserving students at undergraduate level.

The authenticity of the information provided by the students shall be verified by cross checking of the data provided through physical verification, the official sources informed.

It is stated that scholarship will be cancelled at any stage if the student is punished because of his/her involvement in violation of the university rules, damage to university property, misbehavior with staff or colleagues or any other disciplinary proceedings.

Meanwhile, any false information or discrepancy will lead to disqualification, recovery of entire received amount, and disciplinary proceedings. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

The QAU will review the application forms and only shortlisted applicants will be called for the interview by the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC).

Application received after the due date will not be entertained, the sources said, adding that limited seats are available.

The scholarship award, and its continuity is subject to approval, availability of funds, and release of grant by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The HEC Need Based Scholarship form duly filled may be submitted to the Office of the Students’ Financial Assistance, Room No. 17, Administration Block along with supporting documents as per checklist on or before December 12, 2023.

The Office shall not be responsible for the forms delivered to any other office or after the due date. The application form is available at all photocopier shops of the university.

Islamabad police record data of over 8,40,000 people through hotel eye’ software

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP):Over 8,40,000 people’s data have been meticulously recorded through the ‘Hotel Eye’ software, a testament to the effectiveness of Safe City Islamabad in preventing crime, a police spokesperson said.

The fully operational “Hotel Eye” software has been seamlessly integrated across all police stations in Islamabad, enabling the identification and registration of individuals staying in hotels, guest houses, or shelter homes.

In the past 24 hours alone, 5,326 citizens’ data has been entered, contributing to a cumulative total of 8,40,857 citizens entered throughout the ongoing year.

This data gathering initiative has already yielded significant results, with information on 111 suspects forwarded to the concerned police stations for legal proceedings, proving instrumental in identifying criminal elements involved in heinous and other crimes.

Islamabad Capital City Police Officer Dr.Akbar Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan has said that employing modern technology and leveraging all available resources is greatly helpful in maintaining law and order. He said that safety to the lives and property of the citizens would be a ensured by using all means.

 

PM congratulates Pakistan women cricket team for winning T20 series in New Zealand

ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday congratulated the Pakistan women cricket team for winning the T20 series in New Zealand.

The prime minister, in a statement, said that after this victory, Pakistan women’s cricket team became the Asian women’s cricket team to win the T20 series in New Zealand.

He said that Pakistani women players were in no way behind the men’s team.

He said that the Pakistan women’s cricket team had the potential to win the World Cup if they continued to working hard the same way.

Prime Minister Kakar also extended felicitations to the Pakistan women cricketers and their families on behalf of the entire nation.
