Caretaker govt nothing to do with rejection or acceptance of nomination papers: Solangi
ISLAMABAD, Dec 30 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi on Saturday categorically rejected the notion that the caretaker government had any involvement in either acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers of the aspiring candidates for the general election.
The caretaker government had nothing to do with the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers which was part of the constitutional process, the minister said while speaking in a Television (TV) talk show of the private media.
“Only the Election Commission has authority to decide on election-related matters,” the minister stressed.
He said the caretaker government was committed to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in providing financial and administrative support to the electoral watchdog for the elections.
Solangi said an amount of Rs17.4 billion had been released to the Election Commission of Pakistan in addition to Rs10 billion which was released earlier for holding elections.
To a question, he said the constitutional bodies had been working within their limits.
The PTI was a registered political party, he said, adding all political parties were being given due coverage on the national broadcasters in line with their editorial policy.
He said negotiations with Baloch protesters resulted in the release of all children and women in the first phase.
In the second phase, 163 male individuals were released, he said, adding the remaining 34 individuals were also freed in the third phase.
He said peaceful protest was the right of every citizen. However, blocking roads, entering restricted zones, attacking the police, and throwing stones were beyond the scope of a peaceful protest and were not permitted at any cost, he added.
The minister said the general elections would be held on February 8, 2024.
AJK govt to evolve plan to raise Kashmir question at int’l front: AJK PM
MIRPUR (AJK) Dec 30 (APP) : Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq said on Saturday that a comprehensive policy would be evolved to promote the Kashmir cause effectively at the international level.
Talking to an overseas Kashmiri delegation that called on him at the Jammu Kashmir House in the federal metropolis, the AJK premier said that the government would pursue the case of Kashmir at the global level through a joint and united platform along with Hurriyat representatives, leaders of all political parties of Azad Kashmir and representatives of the overseas Kashmiri community.
This common platform, he said, would represent the aspirations of the entire Kashmiri nation.
He said that his government would not only turn Azad Kashmir into a base camp in a true sense, but would also enable the Kashmiris to present their case before the world by themselves. He expressed optimism that his government would get full support from the government of Pakistan in this regard.
Anwar said that an effective campaign would be launched in the UK and other parts of the European countries to expose India’s belligerence and barbarism. On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir appreciated the Kashmiri diaspora community’s role in highlighting the plight of Kashmiris at the international level.
He said, “We should all fight for the rights of the people of the state while correcting the weaknesses and shortcomings of the past”. Referring to the prevailing political and human rights situation in the Indian-occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir, he said, India has broken all records of barbarism and brutality in Kashmir.
He said that India has been using its repressive state apparatus as well as its judiciary to suppress the legitimate political aspirations of the Kashmiri people.” Sooner or later India will have to leave Kashmir. It cannot hold Kashmiris hostage for too long”, he said, adding that India would have to fulfill its pledge to hold a referendum in the region by the UN resolutions.
The delegation was comprised of Lord Mayor of Manchester Councilor Yasmin Dar, Majid Khan, Sardar Muhammad Siddique Khan, Kanwal Hayat Kashmiri, Raja Nijabat and others. The visiting delegation assured the PM of its full support to project and promote the Kashmir cause both at the national and international levels.
Over 18,000 IBOs conducted across country, 566 eliminated & 5,161 terrorists arrested in 2023
ISLAMABAD, Dec 30 (APP): As many as 18,736 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) have been conducted by the security forces across the country in 2023 resulted in the elimination of 566 and the arrest of 5,161 terrorists during various actions taken to maintain peace and security in the country.
According to the data available from this news agency, effective security measures have been taken by the forces against terrorists in the year 2023.
In the year 2023, in view of the situation of unrest in the region, effective anti-terrorism measures were taken for national defense and security.
The data indicated that the traces and evidence of recent terrorist incidents in the country was linked to terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
In the year 2023, the security forces took timely action and exterminated many wanted terrorists. Due to the effective operations of intelligence agencies, Gulzar Imam Shambe and Sarfaraz Bengalzai, the most important commanders of the Baloch National Army left terrorism and rejoined the national mainstream.
However, 15,063 intelligence-based operations were conducted in Balochistan and 109 terrorists were sent to hell. Some 1,942 intelligence-based operations were conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while 447 terrorists were sent to hell.
As many as 190 intelligence-based operations were conducted in Punjab, 14 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,987 in Sindh while 10 terrorists were sent to hell in h.
Pakistan Armed Forces, other law enforcement agencies and people have made selfless sacrifices in the war against terrorism. More than 1,000 people, including more than 260 officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country in the terrorist attacks.
Pakistan forces have taken numerous steps to make the country a cradle of peace, from which there is a bright hope that the coming time will be one of peace and stability. Pakistan forces will continue the war against terrorism with the full support of the people until the end of the last terrorist.
In the coming year, the security forces, together with the law enforcement agencies, will continue the war against terrorism with a new dimension and determination.

120th Midshipmen, 28th SSC Parade held at Pakistan Naval Academy
KARACHI, Dec 30 (APP): The Course Commissioning Parade of 120th Midshipmen and 28th Short Service Commission (SSC) was held here at the Pakistan Naval Academy (PNA) on Saturday.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The commissioning contingent comprised 88 Midshipmen out of which 60 were from Pakistan, 01 from the Kingdom of Bahrain, and 27 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with 44 officers of SSC Course including 12 lady officers, a Pakistan Navy news release said.
While emphasising on geo-strategic environment, the Chief of the Naval Staff asserted that peace and stability in South Asia will remain elusive unless the long-standing issue of Kashmir is resolved in accordance with the aspirations of its people and the UNSC resolutions.
He urged the international community to play its role in the cessation of human rights violations and atrocities in the illegally occupied Indian-held Jammu and Kashmir whose citizens must be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination.
During his address, Naval Chief also emphasised the immediate need to end the sufferings in Gaza as indiscriminate use of force on Palestinian civilians is a gross violation of human rights and war crimes that must cease forthwith.
He further reiterated that Pakistan would continue its diplomatic, moral, and principled support to Palestinians and urged for a just, comprehensive, and enduring solution to the Palestinian question, in line with relevant UN resolutions.
He added that Pakistan looks forward to a stable and secure Afghanistan; which is key to regional integration, growth, and prosperity.
The Chief Guest felicitated the commissioning term and their parents. He commended the parents for instilling a spirit in their children to serve the nation, which ultimately led them to join this prestigious Service.
He also lauded the Pakistan Naval Academy for imparting quality training and expressed his hope that cadets from friendly countries trained at PNA will serve as our brand- ambassadors to enhance bonds of endearment and affinity.
Chief of the Naval Staff also advised the youth on a new dimension of warfare, which is the use of social media for disinformation, that has become an essential segment of fifth-generation warfare.
Later, the Chief Guest gave away awards to the distinction holders. The prestigious Quaid-i-Azam Gold Medal was awarded to Lt Muhammad Talha Masood PN for his overall best performance. Midshipman Ayan Yameen claimed the coveted Sword of Honour, whereas Midshipman Sanaullah Safeer clinched the Academy’s Dirk. Officer Cadet Abdullah Waheed was awarded the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gold Medal, Officer Cadet Sultan Abdulrahman Hamad Saleh Alrowaiei received the Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal while Commandant Gold Medal was awarded to Officer Cadet Asia Safdar from the Short Service Commission Course. Proficiency Banner was claimed by Fox’l Squadron.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy Commodore Muhammad Khalid highlighted the main characteristics of academic and professional training afforded to Pakistani as well as friendly countries cadets.
The parade was attended by senior civil, and military officials and parents of cadets.
