Excise Deptt to hold vehicle registration, token tax Camp at Katchnar Park

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): In a move to facilitate the citizens of Islamabad, Excise Department will be holding a vehicle registration and token tax camp at the parking lot of Katchnar Park today from 3 to 5 pm.
The camp will be held on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, ICT spokesman Dr Abdullah Tabasum said on Tuesday.
In addition to the vehicle registration and token tax services, the Islamabad Facilitation Center Doorstep ICT Vehicle will also be present at the camp. The Doorstep ICT Vehicle provides a variety of services, including Domicile Certificate, Birth Certificate, Power of Attorney, International Driving Permit, Fuel Permit (Domestic/Commercial), and Motor Vehicle Registration.
This is a great opportunity for Islamabad residents to get their vehicles registered and pay their token taxes without having to go to the Excise Department office. The camp is also a convenient way for citizens to obtain other essential services from the Islamabad Facilitation Center.

Comprehensive plan ready to tackle ‘Murree tourist influx’: DC

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Tuesday said that in view of the snowfall prediction, the Punjab caretaker government with the coordination of the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a travel advisory for tourists and prepared a comprehensive plan to tackle visitors by establishing 13 facilitation centres.
Talking to a private news channel, he assured that all final arrangements and essential items such as petrol and meals have been arranged for tourists at these centers, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the well-being of visitors during their snowfall experience.
The vehicles entering the city were being monitored through digital counting and will limit excessive vehicle moving towards the express highway to Murree, he added.
  He further said that the website is also updated for tourists and they would be able to get the latest information about the weather, traffic conditions at various intersections, hotels and other necessary updates before coming to Murree.
  Replying a query about Parking space, he said that the Punjab government with the coordination of Private hotel associations have arranged free of cost parking spaces for visitors, adding, more other parking spaces were also being identified in Murree and adjoining areas.
 To another question about Car maintenance awareness drive, he urged tourists to contact the traffic police for immediate assistance in case of any traffic-related challenges or emergencies, adding, the visitors are advised to come in warm clothes, maintain capacity vehicles with full fuel tanks and avoid unnecessary travel.
 Travellers should also keep all important food items with them while travelling to Murree, he added.
He requested the tourists to follow the advisory to avoid any kind of inconvenience or incident to have safe tourism as rush of tourist increasing due to winter vacations and snow predictions in coming days.
He further said that travellers turn on your emergency lights and other lights of the cars, as well and try to put strong metal Tyre.
The special traffic wardens had also been deployed at the main sites of Murree to ensure smooth traffic flow, he added.

Health camps to be established in FDE schools to ensure children well-being

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP):Ministry of Federal Education an Professional Training, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is initiating comprehensive health camp for students within the institutions working under the ambit of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to assess their health condition and ensure the well-being of the students.
According to the official sources, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), in that regard, has directed all the Director colleges and schools and the Area Education Officers Rural area, Islamabad to arrange health camp in the educational institutions.
FDE, in this regard, requested to direct all Head of Institutions to compile the necessary data of their students to share with the teams of Health Camp upon their arrival in the concern institution and compile the date by 05-01-2024.
Meanwhile, commenting the arranging of health these camps, Riffat Jabeen, Director Academics, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) while talking to APP on Tuesday said that the aim of this activity is to ensure the health and well being of the students. She said that the camps will start wok in next two weeks.
She said that FDE has directed the heads of educational institutions specifically to encourage students to actively participate in  health camps without compromising routine academic activities. She further informed that the doctors team from all major public and private hospitals of federal capital will be hired for the check up of schools children.
Under this Program, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training had already distributes ‘Hygiene Kits’ among students of government educational institutions within the ICT jurisdiction tp ensure their good health. Doctors are also engaged to guide students on health and hygiene issues” Riffat Jabeen added.

Birth anniversary of veteran actor Lehri observed

ISLAMABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Birth anniversary of famous comedy actor Safeerullah Siddiqui‚ popularly known as Lehri was observed on Tuesday.
Born in Kanpur on January 2, 1929‚  he moved to Karachi after partition and began working as a stenotypist during his teenage years. Side by side‚ after completing his hours at the office‚ he would make ends meet by selling hosiery items. His big break came in the 1950s‚ when director Sheikh Lateef  cast him in his film Anokhi. After bagging the role of a comedian in the film‚ Siddiqui was christened Lehri‚ the name that became his identity during his four decade career in the film industry.
Out of the 225 films that Lehri acted during his career‚ his comic roles in “Mera Ghar Meri Jannat”‚ “Tasvir”‚ “Tum Salamat Raho”‚ “Ishara”,  “Nai Laila Naya Majnon”‚ “Tum Milay Pyaar Mila”,  “Bahadur”, “Saiqa”‚ “Naukar” and “Zameer”
won him outstanding appreciation and fame.
While the vast majority of Lehri’s roles were in Urdu films‚ the actor also worked in some Punjabi productions. Despite not having played the lead role as a film’s hero, since the comedian’s role is usually a smaller one, Lehri found his place in the hearts of millions of his admirers.
He won the Nigar Award 12 times for various films between 1964 and 1986. Lehri died on September 13, 2012 in Karachi‚  at the age of 83.

Gold rates up by Rs.1,600 to Rs.221,300 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs.1,600 and was sold at Rs.221,300 on Tuesday compared to its sale at Rs.219,700 on the last trading day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs.1,372 to Rs.189,729 from Rs. 188,357 whereas the price of 10 grams 22 karat gold went up to Rs.173,918 from Rs. 172,661, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola and ten-gram silver remained unchanged at Rs2,680 and Rs.2,297.66 respectively.

The price of gold in the international market increased by $.12 and was sold at $2,094 against $2,082, the Association reported.

Dr. Shahzad urges political parties to contest upcoming elections on manifesto

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): Opposition leader in Senate Dr. Shahzad Waseem has urged political parties to contest the upcoming elections based on a manifesto focused on public welfare.
Speaking during a session in the Senate, he emphasized the need for unity among political parties to address the challenges being faced by the country.
Dr. Shahzad Waseem also called for economic stability and the continuity of policies beneficial to the country.
He advocated for a level playing field in the upcoming elections, stressing that political parties should be allowed to run their campaigns independently.
The opposition leader urged for ensuring a secure environment for political parties to conduct their election campaigns.
He highlighted past incidents, including the killings of political leaders like Benazir Bhutto and ANP leaders during previous election campaigns.
Dr. Shahzad Waseem calling for a free, fair, and transparent election, emphasized the importance of respecting differences of opinion as a characteristic of democracy.

2 die, 13 injured in Bahawalpur road mishap

BAHAWALPUR, Jan 02 (APP):At least two passengers have died and 13 others have sustained injuries as their passenger coach overturned due to dense fog in Kot Khalifa area on the National Highway.
The official sources in the police and Punjab Emergency Service Department, Rescue 1122 said that a passenger coach loaded with passengers was on its way from Karachi to Bhakkar when it overturned near Bhalka bridge in Kot Khalifa area on Karachi-Lahore national highway.
“As a result of the accident, two passengers died on the spot and 13 others suffered critical wounds,” they said, adding that two of the injured were told to be in very serious condition.
The rescuer teams and ambulances of Punjab Emergency Service Department rushed to the scene and shifted the dead and injured to a hospital in Taranda area.
The police sources said that the driver drove away the bus off the road due to heavy fog which had reduced visibility level to few meters and the coach overturned.
The police have also started investigation into the incident. Further probe was underway.

ANF recovers 214 kg drugs in nine operations

RAWALPINDI, Jan 02 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting nine operations across the country managed to recover 214 kg drugs and arrested six accused including a woman, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Tuesday.

He informed that 2.4 kg heroin was recovered from a passenger going to Doha on Qatar Airways at Lahore Airport.
100 grams heroin was recovered from a parcel booked for Sri Lanka at a courier office on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
209 kg hashish was recovered in four operations near Morgah border in Khyber.

In an operation, 2 kg hashish was recovered near GT Road Peshawar.
Eight cocaine-filled capsules were recovered from the possession of a Nigerian resident netted from Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Rawalpindi area.

956 grams heroin was recovered from three accused arrested from Kanganpur.
Cases under the CNS Act have been registered against the arrested accused while further investigations are under process.

PHC Abbottabad bench reinstates deposed dean of Ayub Medical College

ABBOTTABAD, Jan 02 (APP): Peshawar High Court (PHC) Abbottabad bench Tuesday while giving its verdict reinstated the former deposed Dean of Ayub Medical College, Omer Farooq.

According to the details, in recent developments, the former dean of Ayub Medical College was removed from his
position by the Chairman of the Board of Directors a week ago, citing his appointment as a violation of merit.

The duties were subsequently assigned to the new dean, Professor Dr. Asif Kareem, who assumed the office.

Dr. Omer Farooq promptly challenged this decision before the PHC Abbottabad bench, seeking relief. Following
the court’s verdict, a new power struggle for the position of dean has commenced within Ayub Medical College
