UAE’s cloud seeding team calls on CM Punjab

LAHORE, Jan 02 (APP):Ahmed Al-Kamal, head of the cloud-seeding team from the United Arab Emirates’ meteorology department, chief pilot Michael Anstis and pilot Col Ubaid called on Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi at his office on Tuesday.
The CM thanked the team members for their endeavors to induce artificial rainfall to reduce smog and expressed gratitude for the UAE’s cooperation, acknowledging it as the first-ever successful attempt at artificial rainfall in Lahore’s history.
Chief Minister Naqvi stated that the Punjab government appreciates the collaboration with the UAE, and reiterated the need for artificial rainfall to combat smog. He assured that further efforts would be made to induce artificial rainfall, once again, when the required atmospheric conditions are met, with the assistance of the UAE team.
Highlighting the success of the first-ever artificial rainfall in Lahore, the CM mentioned that air quality levels remained below 200 for several days. He expressed hope that, with suitable atmospheric conditions in January, artificial rainfall could once again be employed to bring further reduction in smog levels.
The chief minister commended the UAE’s team for their dedication and emphasized that the people of Pakistan will not forget the efforts of the UAE in this crucial initiative. The successful artificial rainfall operation in Lahore now stands as a significant milestone in the history of weather modification, he added. Acknowledging the unparalleled cooperation from the leadership of the United Arab Emirates, Naqvi thanked Ahmed Al-Kamal and his team members.
Al-Kamal expressed optimism for another successful artificial rainfall experiment in January, and expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality in Lahore, stating that Pakistan is their second home.
Provincial ministers Amir Mir and Bilal Afzal, weather modification expert Brig. Nadeem, Director General Environment Protection Department, Chief Meteorologist Ch. Muhammad Aslam and CAA’s Senior Joint Director Muhammad Altaf were also present.

Akhuwat Foundation denies liability for fraudulent use of its name

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): The Akhuwat Foundation on Tuesday distanced itself from any responsibility for fraudulent activities conducted under its name, emphasizing non-accountability for dishonest transactions.

In a statement, a spokesman of the Akhuwat Foundation clarified that Akhuwat Islamic Finance operates as an interest-free loan provider, offering loans and managing installments through its branch network. The spokesperson noted that individuals are misusing the institution’s name and educational services for fraudulent activities. The Akhuwat Foundation explicitly states that it will not take responsibility for any fraudulent or deceptive transactions carried out by these individuals.

Students seeking admission to educational institutions within the fraternity are not paying any fees or charges. Additionally, the fraternity does not offer scholarships, compensation or any similar benefits for students to pursue studies in other educational institutions.

The spokesperson reported that individuals with malicious intent and fraudulent entities are exploiting the name of Akhuwat Educational Services, falsely claiming to offer scholarships to students for test fees.

This misinformation is disseminated through fake social media accounts and various platforms, including websites. It is important to note that Akhuwat disclaims any responsibility for any dealings with these deceptive entities or individuals. He urged people to stay vigilant and be cautious of such fraudulent activities.

DBA election: 10 candidates elected unopposed

FAISALABAD, Jan 02 (APP):At least 10 candidates contesting for District Bar Association (DBA) annual election-2024 were elected unopposed.
According to DBA election board, the candidates – Malik Altaf Hussain Khokhar Advocate, Rana Muhammad Tayyab Khan Advocate, Malik Muhammad Tayyab Iqbal Advocate, Muhammad Amir Munawar Advocate, Rana Muhammad Rauf Advocate, Tariq Mahmood Baloch Advocate, Muhammad Athar Chaudhry Advocate, Muhammad Farooq Chohan Advocate, Usama Abbas Syed Advocate, Miss Sofia Nawaz Advocate – were elected unopposed.
It may be noted that a total of 27 candidates are in the field now out of which 6 would be elected for President, Vice-President, Secretary, Finance Secretary, Library Secretary and Joint Secretary seats on January 13.

FTO resolves 8128 complaints of Taxpayers

MULTAN, Jan 02 (APP):In-charge Regional Federal Ombudsman Office (Multan) Dr Khalil Ahmed urged tax-payers to contact the Federal Tax Ombudsman Office (FTO) for redressal of their complaints as 8128 complaints were resolved during Year 2023.
While talking to media persons here on Tuesday, Dr Khalil remarked that FTO resolved about 99 percent of complaints about refunds and benefitted the taxpayers. The taxpayers claims were being monitored carefully at FTO, he added. The Tax-payers could apply with the FTO office Multan on plain paper.
Responding to a query on how to enhance the number of tax-payers in the country, he recalled that FBR and NADRA were working on data sharing and hoped that the number of tax-payers would increase in future. Tax revenues are life-line of a country’s economy.  Regarding the performance of Multan FTO, he remarked that it addressed 823 complaints.
To another query about the difficult form for filing details of tax returns, he acknowledged that the form was available in the English language which created difficulty for the masses. He however urged them to avail services of experts for filing returns as the experts had vast knowledge of tax laws.

WASA recovers 6.9m during Dec

FAISALABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) has recovered 6.917 million from its chronic defaulters by detaching 424 water supply and sewerage connections during December 2023.
Managing Director (MD) WASA Amir Aziz said here on Tuesday that WASA recovery teams took strict against the defaulters and recovered Rs.4 million from East Zone by detaching 263 connections.
Similarly, 161 connections of defaulters were disconnected from West Zone and recovered Rs.2.917 million, he added.

FESCO issues shutdown program

FAISALABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has issued shutdown program for Wednesday due to necessary repair, maintenance and expansion of electricity lines.
According to the program issued by the company, power supply from Kathoor feeder linked with 132-KV Gojra grid station will remain suspended from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while Khalid feeder attached with 132-KV Mureedwala grid station will observe shutdown from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday (January 03).
Similarly, power supply from Shadi Pura, D-Type Colony, Sohail Abad, al-Masoom and Niamoana feeders connected with 132-KV Sammundri Road grid station will remain suspended from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. whereas all feeders originating from 132-KV Interloop-1, Interloop-2 and Rafhan Jaranwala grid stations, MKB, MSC, Phalahi Wala, Noor Fatima, Rehman Megna, HAR Textile, Kamal Limited, Five Star Food Gourmet, Ittehad, Kamran Mill, Rasheed Fabrics, Five Star, KTM, Azhar Corporation, Mueen Jubilee, Image Textile, MJ Gohar and Socks & Socks feeders linked with 132-KV Chak 103/R-B grid station, Samanabad and al-Barkat feeders attached with 132-KV Sammundri Road grid station, Jagat Pur feeder connected with 220-KV Sammundri Road grid station, Nazim Abad and Jhang Road feeders originating from 132-KV Jhang Road grid station, Momin Abad feeder linked with 132-KV Factory Area grid station, Katarian feeder attached with 132-KV Tandlianwala grid station, Ghai feeder connected with 132-KV Garh Fateh Shah grid station, Bungalow feeder originating from 132-KV Mamonkanjan grid station, Canal Road and Fateh Abad feeders linked with 132-KV OTP grid station will observe load shedding from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 03, 2024.
