Grant approved for PTV Quetta’s cameramen died in road accident

ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (APP): Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director Sayyed Mubashar Tauqir Shah on Friday approved financial assistance for the families of PTV Quetta Center’s Chief Cameraman Ahmed Khan Solangi and Cameraman Zafar Ali, who died in a road crash the other day.

The decision was taken in line with the directives of Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi and Secretary Information Shahera Shahid, said a news release.

The grant of Rs 2.4 million was approved for the family of Chief Cameraman Ahmed Khan Solangi and Rs 1.5. million for the family of Cameraman Zafar Ali.

According to the PTV MD, the welfare of its employees was always a priority for the management.

He said the late employees gave coverage to the country through camera, and their services for the institution would always be remembered.

He said the PTV shared the grief of the bereaved families of the cameramen.

QUETTA, Jan 05 (APP): Mainly cloudy weather with cold conditions prevailed in most of the province during the next 24 hours, while isolated light rain wind/thunderstorms for Kalat, Makran, Lasbella, Awaran and coastal areas including its surroundings.
According to the Met Office, the minimum temperature in Quetta was recorded at 0.5 degree centigrade and – 01.5 degree centigrade in Zhob on Friday.
Rain falling was recorded in respective areas of Balochistan including Urmara, Kalat, Quetta Samugli, Panjgur, Pasni, Khuzdar, Jiwani, Dalbandin and Gwadar.

‘We engaging with transporters on Yaro-Chaman Highway to reopen route’: Info Minister

QUETTA, Jan 05 (APP): Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai on Friday said that we were actively engaging with the transporters on the Yaro-Chaman Highway to find a solution and reopen the route.
He said that the local administration was working closely with transporters to address their concerns, said a press release.
He said that the primary demand of the demonstrators was the release of trucks currently held up in Chaman by another group of protesters in Parlat, who demanding the government to remove the passport requirement.
However, the government remained firm on its policy of requiring passports for entry and exit, and it will not compromise, he said.
He said that from today, all Afghan patients seeking medical treatment in Pakistan would be required to have passports and visas for entry.

Gold rates decline by Rs1,200 to Rs 217,000 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Jan 05 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs.1,200 and was sold at Rs.217,000 on Friday compared to its sale at Rs.218,200 on last trading day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs.1,028 to Rs.186,043 from Rs.187,071 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22 karat gold went down to Rs.170,539 from Rs.171,482, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten gram Silver remained stagnant at Rs.2,660 and 2,280.52 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $9 to $2,058 from $.2,067, the Association reported.

DC Islamabad kicks off  anti-polio drive targeting 400,000 children

ISLAMABAD, Jan 05 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon has inaugurated an extensive anti-polio campaign aiming to vaccinate 400,000 children under the age of five years.
Accompanied by a dedicated team, including Additional Deputy Commissioners, District Health Officer and Assistant Commissioners, the Deputy Commissioner personally administered polio drops, setting a determined tone for the initiative, ICT spokesman Dr Abdullah Tabasum told on Friday.
The week long drive involves a comprehensive strategy to reach and every household and street in the federal capital. The polio workers and teams are diligently going door-to-door, ensuring that no child is left without the vital vaccine to guarantee effective coverage, Assistant Commissioners will supervise the teams in their respective jurisdictions.
Highlighting the importance of the campaign, the DC emphasized the presence of positive polio cases in nearby areas. With Islamabad being a hub of nationwide movement, he urged the citizens to exercise heightened caution.
The Deputy Commissioner’s call for vigilance underscores the need for a collective effort to maintain the capital’s polio-free status.
The DC urged the parents to ensure their children receive two doses of polio drops. The emphasis on the dual doses aligns with the global strategy to eradicate polio and underscores the community’s role in achieving a polio-free Pakistan.

Lawyers raise concern over Indian SC verdict on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (APP): A delegation of lawyers from various Bar Councils of Pakistan on Friday expressed serious concern over Indian Supreme Court’s verdict on Kashmir and urged to formulate a comprehensive framework to challenge the decision at the International level.
A delegation comprising representatives from various Bar Councils of Pakistan including the Islamabad Bar Council, Azad Kashmir Bar Council, and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Bar Council, called upon Federal Minister for Law and Justice Ahmad Irfan Aslam to discuss the pressing issue of the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Indian government’s revocation of special status for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, said a press release.
During the meeting, members of the delegation raised their concerns about the potential implications of the said decision on the status of the people of IIOJK. The lawyers highlighted the need for Pakistan to formulate a robust counter-narrative and a comprehensive framework to challenge the verdict at the international level.
The Law Minister acknowledging the gravity of the situation, agreed with the concerns raised by the legal community. He commended the lawyers for their proactive stance on the Kashmir issue and emphasized the importance of crafting a unified counter-narrative involving all key stakeholders.
Furthermore, he said the Law Ministry is committed to working collaboratively with all relevant parties to safeguard the interests of the people of Kashmir and to present a strong counter-narrative internationally.
The delegation also raised concerns related to the welfare of lawyers and bar councils. In response to these concerns, the law minister guaranteed full cooperation in addressing these issues.

PSX loses 124 points

ISLAMABAD, Jan 05 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend on Friday, losing 124.26, a negative change of 0.19 percent, closing at 64,514.90 points against 64,639.16 points the previous trading day.
A total of 949,559,318 shares valuing Rs.19.355 billion were traded during the day as compared to 548,989,972 shares valuing Rs. 15.395 billion the last day.
Some 362 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 161 of them recorded gains and 187 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 14 remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were K-Electric with 481,119,880  shares at Rs.6.12 per share, WorldCall Telecom with 33,379,558 shares at Rs.1.47 per share and Bank of Punjab with 28,423,802 shares at Rs.6.92 per share.
